The Dragon's Bride

Flames, then ash. Your village will be left with little else should the dragon that plagues the countryside not get his demanded sacrifice...if you're lucky. Your good fortune turns south, the bones of your neighbors (or whatever else remains of them) litter a new charred graveyard that was once a town. So, the necessary offers must be made. At least that's the hope. The alternative would be too awful to contemplate. In a last-ditch effort to save those you love — or against your will, as these things tend to go with forcibly created martyrs — you have been hoisted onto the pyre, waiting for the dragon to fly off with you. What terrors race through your mind as your doom impends? How you'll end up in a beast's belly, no doubt. Except, you must consider this: there are worst fates than being a dragon's next meal. A monster that covets you as its treasure...a new type of danger unfurls its wings. You've become a dragon's bride. But could such an infernal creature ever learn to know honest, unselfish affection? Is it possible to be more than a "spouse?" A mere treasure? Perhaps, you could learn to be a dragon's love. HOW TO PLAY ✗ Comment with your character, roles ("dragon" or "bride") prefs, etc. ✗ Y'all know how this goes. Approach "dragon" as a stand-in. The monster mash could be elves, orcs, goblins, werewolves, demons, dwarves, fey, purple people eaters, what have you. Of course, actual dragon and shifters folks are welcome, too! And don't think that you have to make your boring human a boring ol' human. Consider this the monster/supernatural being/cryptid/creature AU of your dreams! ✗ Second verse, same as the first, "bride" registers as gender-neutral 'round these parts. That word choice just sounds a touch more poetic. ✗ Reply to others.

[Idunn sighs as she pulls the tray of cookies from the oven. She is used to solving terrible problems, frequently at unfortunate costs. But this problem is notably terrible and the cost particularly unfortunate.

Her contacts had been vague. She knew the nature of the problem long before the delivery, but only at the last moment did she learn the what was at the core of the issue: a young woman. Idunn is weak to young women. Knowing this reality-threatening mess has a poor girl in the center of it is heartbreaking--especially with Idunn's involvement in tearing her out of her life to secret her away.

The cookies slide onto a plate, which Idunn carries out to the living room. The home is small and the location kept secret even from her unfortunate guest. Said guest sitting on the couch.]

[She has only been here for a few days, but it must feel an eternity to someone plucked out of her life. She left Kaname to herself in the spare bedroom, but that cannot last forever. Idunn struts over and sets the plate on the coffee table, immediately in front of the girl.]

It had been a matter of the wrong place at the wrong time. Cassandra had been travelling far afield, leaving Whitestone behind for the foreseeable future, and she had been looking for a place to stay. She could have camped, of course, but she had been doing that for quite some time and a warm meal that she hadn’t cooked and a soft bed were sounding better and better.

So she stopped, when she finally rode through a small town. There was an inn, and there were rooms available. She should have known better. There had been... a feeling, as she rode into town. Something about how the townspeople looked at her. It had given her a bad feeling, but she thought that perhaps they were just suspicious of newcomers. It wouldn’t be the first time and it wouldn’t be the last.

Well, they felt SOME kind of way about newcomers.

What she hadn’t known at the time had been that they had heard that there was a Witcher nearby, and they had decided to make him an offering to get him to leave. Only they couldn’t just offer up one of their OWN. That would be wrong. So they waited for a suitable stranger to arrive. And Cassandra had been that stranger.

They accost her as she returns to the stable, and despite her abilities and the stubborn fight she puts up she is outnumbered, and sometimes there’s no overcoming that. Bruised and dazed, lip bleeding, she’s forced out of her clothes into something more suitable for a sacrifice, dragged out and chained up in between the town and the nearby forest.

So all he has to do is fly into a village, give them a week to prepare, return and pick up the sacrifice, fly off with them decide if he wants to eat them or free them, move on to the next village.
