The HOLY GRAIL WAR Meme

Seven Masters, magi of the present day. Seven Servants, heroes of days past.
One Holy Grail, granting whomever claims it a wish. Only one team of Master and Servant may claim it.
Who will it be?
For those unfamiliar with Fate/Stay Night or Fate/Zero, you can find a better explanation of the Holy Grail War here. (Note: The Holy Grail War in Fate/EXTRA functions in a dramatically different way, and one not followed for purposes of this meme.)


Instructions
1. Comment with your character. In the subject line, put that character's name, canon, and which role (Master, Servant, or either) you would like them to fulfill. Add other preferences if you would like. (NOTE: If your character can fill the role of Servant, I suggest you state which class(es) -- Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, or Berserker -- they fall into.)
2. Reply to others' comments. Pick your character's role (and the other character's if they list "Either" as their preference), then use the RNG to pick a scenario that fits the two characters' roles.
3. Enjoy! Though there might be triggers, depending on how the prompts are interpreted.


TWO MASTERS


1. Battle. Who says that Servants get to have all the fun? After all, most Masters try to kill each other, too. Whatever the circumstances, the two of you are locked in a fight. Neither of you are willing to use your Command Spells just yet, so no Servants here. Just two magi duking it out.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. Protection. Uh-oh! One of you has lost your Servant! Unfortunately, there's no way you'd get to the church safely on your own, so the other one will help you get there! Or maybe you don't trust the priest presiding over the Holy Grail War and are giving shelter to them yourself? Given their track record, no one would blame you.

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. You, Too? Surprise! You may have been friends before, but you've just discovered that you're both Masters! How will you handle this revelation?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


MASTER AND SERVANT


1. Are You My Master? The summoning is complete. Whether intentional or not, catalyst or not, a magus has summoned a Servant. What kind of meeting was it? Was everything totally under control, or did a hitch occur? Or maybe it happened in the middle of a life-or-death situation!

2. Identity. Either the Servant has flat out told the Master their identity, or they unleashed their Noble Phantasm. Either way, the cat is out of the bag. How will the Master react, now that they know their Servant's name and legend? Will anything change between the two?

3. Battle Aftermath. A battle has just ended. Who participated? Are either of you hurt? Did the Master have to use a Command Spell? Any number of things could have happened here.

4. Discord. Uh-oh. It looks like the Master and the Servant don't get along. Here come the arguments! Don't do something stupid, like waste a Command Spell over a triviality...

5. Love. And then, there's the opposite. Sometimes Masters and Servants fall in love with each other. How will this affect things?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


TWO SERVANTS


1. Battle. This is what usually happens when two Servants meet -- they duke it out. This probably says enough as it is.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. The Grail Dialogues. Maybe you're not interested in fighting just yet. Maybe you just want to sit down and talk with the other Servant. Find out what they want, what makes them tick. Get some wine while you're at it -- nothing like good wine to go with good talk!

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying...again. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in this War in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. Identity. Congratulations, you've just learned each other's identities! Will this change the situation, or will you press onward?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!

[ The fight goes badly. A lot of them do, in Ritsuka's experience; it feels almost like a prerequisite, at this point, to go through at least three or four close calls before they can finally figure out how to beat a boss. But they'd been losing, and she'd made the executive decision to cut out early and retreat. It doesn't matter how strong one of her Servants is; even after all this time, Ritsuka isn't really used to seeing how badly injured they can get.

So they've retreated for now, to their current safehouse. Communications are down, because of course they are, but before it fritzed out, Mash had assured her the others would be on their way back soon.

Which leaves her with Shirou now, and while it might be safer to give him some space, let him cool down and maybe work on his own healing, what Ritsuka actually does is gather up the first aid supplies, approaching him with her shoulders set and her head high. ]

it's raining and thank the gods for that, because there was a lot of blood and now it was seeping into the ground rather than lingering on that crisp coat. the blue-eyed dragon growls and seems to want more but very little was left of their opponent and thank the gods for that, it was almost too gory to bear otherwise. the occasional rumble of thunder and flash of lightning suits the scene well.

[Lancer's Master was a jovial man even under the stress of being chosen to summon one of the local saints. Alois had been chosen by the local branch of the church to be a Master only so he could help enforce the extraordinary Grail War about to happen. Only the most holy of Servants could have been called for such a duty, after all.

Alois had given this information without prompting. He needed to go meet with the other Masters of the church but the one organizing the Grail War, Rhea, wished to speak with Lancer personally in private. Even Alois seemed to think that was weird but Rhea seemed keen on meeting all of the Servants of the Church. Something about it being a great honor that anyone in her position would wish to do.

He leaves Lancer in a side room of the local chapel. It's when Alois is outside that Rhea makes her presence known. Not directly to Lancer but hearing the woman speaking to his Master is too familiar. They exchange pleasantries and Alois's loud voice carries into the side room.

Right, right. I've left things as you said, Lady Rhea. If Lancer or you need me, you know where I'll be!

With a booming laugh he begins to head out of earshot. The door opens and--]

At some point, it's going to stop being a surprise. Who hasn't shown up in some fashion to darken Chaldea's metaphorical doorstep at this point? They're done to three off the top of her head--though, to be honest, just two weeks ago, she would have said that number was four. Surely, if there was anyone who wouldn't be interested in answering her summon, it would have been the Apostles and then Koyanskaya. Right? Right!

Except that's not right at all, is it?!

But now he's here, and Ritsuka isn't willing to just... throw him back, as it were. It's okay! She's handled worse before--the uproar when BB had waltzed in is still something that leaves on in infamy in her head--so she can surely handle this, right?

But here she is, with a packed lunch courtesy of Emiya, wondering if it's too late to back out. They've already made eye contact, so she can't pretend she hadn't seen him, but honestly, of all the "team building" "trust exercises" that Da Vinci has been going on about, did it have to be this? Seriously? ]

[ In all likelihood, a Master from a fairly prestigious (yet notably "nouveau riche") magus family. However, as Noir the Phantom Thief, she can be summoned as a Servant (either an Assassin or a Berserker)! ]

[ The Okumuras might not be as established as the Tohsakas but, as Rin has learned over the past few days, their heir isn’t someone to be underestimated.

Their first encounter— Rin’s Archer versus Haru’s Rider— had been rough, in a word. But not as rough, perhaps, as their second. Rin had stumbled across Haru and her Servant locked in a battle that was, as far as she could tell, fairly unwinnable. Rider was on her last legs, so to speak, and Haru herself didn’t seem to be faring much better.

Blame it on her tragically human heart, or perhaps it was just a whim, but Rin had stepped in then and there, her red knight trailing closely behind her, and offered a hand to her fellow Master.

Which puts them where they are now, seated on one of the plush couches in the Okumura house, a teaset and snacks laid out before them on the coffee table.

And, if Rin finds the decor of the place to be just a little tacky… well. That’s something she’ll keep to herself, for now. ]

So, we’re in agreement, Okumura-san?

[ She lifts her teacup from its saucer and regards Haru with a keen eye. In that moment, it might be clear that the Rin Tohsaka who attends Homurahara Academy and the girl sitting before Haru right now are, somehow, very different people. ]

You’ll keep Rider away from my Archer until we pick off a few more of the other Servants, won’t you?
