The more tedious parts have been either completed or delegated, however, and tonight he has only one responsibility left.

The spoils from Yunmeng Jiang had gone to his brother - technically, as the clan leader, he should have been first to receive them, but Lan Xichen had seen the way Wangji looked at the clan leader's brother, and he had never been able to deny him anything. It turned out to be an excellent decision - the knowledge from Wangji's hard won bride had proved instrumental in the defeat of the Qinghe Nie clan.

Lan Xichen's prize is the clan leader's brother - the current heir to the Nie clan, as is befitting his own status. He's never seen the boy and knows of him only by reputation, but such a thing hardly matters, nor does it matter if Nie Huaisang is entirely willing to be his. He knows his duty to his own clan and to the Nie clan, to appreciate what has been given to him - and his duty to himself, to make sure that Huaisang enjoys it whether he wants to or not.
