[Bucky knew that Cassian had to work. They worked around both of their schedules. Each of them saving the world. It made the days between when they saw one another hard. She doesn't remember ever longing for someone like she has him. It's a longing that she was pretty sure Hydra had programmed out of her. After all, they didn't need their prized possession having any type of feelings.

There were days where she still worried, though. That someone would say the wrong thing and the Winter Soldier would come out to play. Making it so the person she was with would have to fight for their life. Something that she didn't want anyone doing, not because of her.

it would all be wasted effort anyway, trying to build anything out of the broken shards left behind by his betrayal. but the phantom thieves don't think like him and are admittedly beyond his realm of understanding. akechi could not think of anything more meaningless than a party at a time like this, unable to do more than glower in disdain as akira relayed his asinine reasoning.

You're assuming any of it was real at all, was the only thing akechi could say to him.
