For as hard as you work (or as hard as you don't work), sometimes a person just needs a day. One day to skip responsibilities, whether they be school related or work related. And that's what this meme is for:

Playing hooky from your responsibilities. Whether you call out sick or just say 'fuck it' and run off for the day, that's your choice. Hopefully, you enjoy your day and don't get caught. Because nothing ruins a day of playing hooky more.

So while it's in your best interest to stuff as much fun into one day as possible, please be careful. We'd hate for anything to ruin your day off.

[ the alarm is excessively loud, too shrill, and it causes him to jerk out of his sleep, a single red feather shooting out instinctively and stabbing through the noisy clock. he rubs the sleep out of his eyes, yawning as his groggy brain catches up to the current events. he frowns at the now destroyed alarm clock on his bedside table. not another one. this was definitely going to annoy his handler, hiroshi.

the hero commission had decided early on to allow keigo to attend regular schooling, with some conditions. he would go directly to and from school every day. he'd be provided a two bedroom apartment, but it was to be shared with his 'legal guardian' his 'uncle' hiroshi. and absolutely no one was to know he'd grew up within the walls of the commission or any of the gruesome training they'd subjected him to as a child.

the experience itself would serve as a training exercise in lying, infiltration, and blending in. he'd have to act like keigo takami, regular hero hopeful.

but there were exceptions to every rule. one boy knew all his secrets. touya todoroki had been his only friend, a genuine reliable friend, for most of his life. as pitted against each other as they were, constantly being thrown together for 'training', no one could deny the bond they'd developed over the years.

there's a knock at his door, and it causes him to squint, hiroshi being polite for once? this was new. his 'uncle' doesn't even bother opening the door, however, just yells from the other side of it. guess the alarm clock conversation would have to wait. ]

i've gotta run out. get your ass to school. on time for once.

[ keigo rolls his eyes, but hollers back an agreeable statement, getting out of bed and stomping around like he's actually getting himself ready. he's been an obedient little pet bird, and it's afforded him some trust. trust he was going to take advantage of because dammit he deserved to have some fun ever once in awhile.

he decides to call touya instead of just meeting up like they ordinarily do to commute to school together. the plan would only work if touya agreed to it, because if he turned keigo down keigo would reluctantly attend school too. he doesn't even let touya get in as much as a hello before he prattling off about his plan. ]

oh toto, [ he coos into the phone ] you know what we deserve? a day off. you and me. come on, ditch with me. we can walk around town, eat some good food, maybe visit a park. hey you wanna fly around a bit? the sky's the limit today. say yes.

he deserves all of dabi's meanness, but i'll let him have some possible love this time xPPP

[ touya is tired. no, he's so exhausted he can feel it in his bones. he's already wide awake by the time he should be getting up for school, doing his usual training with his father before the sun even comes up.

he could use a lazy day, which to him pretty much means getting to sleep till the sun comes up. one day, maybe. but not today.

he should he used to these early mornings by now, and mostly he is, but lately his body just feels heavier. training in morning, at school, after dinner while still trying to keep up with his grades- he feels like. he's starting to lose it, especially because his body is still fighting him every step of the way. even now he can feel the flames burning his skin, curling up his arms as he tries to fight his father. the pain is good though, and he focuses on that, instead of the way his endeavor grabs at him and yells into his face.

touya does get an alarm though, to signal the end of training and he waits until it annoys endeavor enough to let him go and shoo him off, and then he pulls himself together and runs off to his room, first aid kit in hand so he can get ready for school. at least he still gets to go to school. he knows he has to be grateful for that.

he's half way through bandaging up when his phone rings, and he can't help the small smile when he sees it's keigo. the only good thing about school, other than that he gets to leave home. he doesn't know what he'd do without keigo. his life would be so different without him. when he answers, he can't even get a word in before keigo is rambling on about taking a day off and touya gets up and peeks out his door to make sure no one's there before he closes it again. ]

Ditch school? I dunno... what if they find out? What if they call home? What if...

[he's so tired. he looks down at his arm and winces, then flops sideways onto his bed and tries not to close his eyes.]

Can we take a nap somewhere too?

[ he frowns, he can hear the worry clear in touya's voice. he sounds weary too. which is exactly why they both needed this so much. but keigo is aware of what he's asking touya to risk. he's risking a lot too, but he's confident that it would all turn out okay. it's not like they did this every week. they deserve one day out of their mostly miserable lives to just. . . well to just be.

if all else fails, he wasn't opposed to running away with touya. how far would the commission and enji really be willing to chase them? he doesn't want to seriously think about the answer to that question.

his frown morphs into an affectionate smile, one only reserved for thoughts of touya. he looks around, already making a move to shuffle around and clean up random parts of his room. ]

yeah, come over to my place and we can take a nap first.

[ there was enough warmth in his tone to rival touya's quirk. the extra sleep wouldn't kill him and there was always a strange sense of relief that came with touya being close to him. he'd only been allowed over a handful of times, when they were allowed to study together for school. most of their training time was spent at touya's house under the watchful eyes of one enji todoroki.

keigo can't believe he admired the man once. witnessing first hand just how awful he was, was enough to shatter any kind of hope he had in hero society. add in his own form of abuse he endured from the hero commission, and the only thing keep him relatively sane was touya. ]

[ there are so many terrible ways this could end, and touya's brain runs through all of it at once. luckily he's tired enough where he can't even manage to get too anxious about it, and keigo's offer seems exceptionally wonderful.

if they get caught though, touya knows he's dead. like maybe even Dead dead. endeavor wouldn't let him forget it, that's for sure. he wonders if the school would let it slide just this once. they're good students. the best- well, keigo is anyways, but he's pretty sure he's a close second. maybe the principal will cut them some slack. he almost wants to call UA and beg, but he knows that wouldn't go over very well. ]

Your place? But what about that dickbag Hiroshi? Did you finally get rid of him?

[he tries to joke.]

well, class is in session, bitch.

[ he can almost hear the gears turning in touya's head. they have an exceptional track record when it came to school and he doubts one day will go noticed. wishful thinking, but everything would be fine. it had to be. the universe owed them big time.

he understands how scary this is for touya. endeavor already beats him for doing little more than breathing. there was no telling what he would do if he caught them skipping school. keigo hates that he can't be with touya all hours of the day. hates the thought of endeavor laying his hands on his son like he has every right to. ]

they called him in early, i guess.

[ there's a brief pause before he speaks again, his voice steady and his tone serious. he doesn't want to bring it up, but he needs touya to know he'd do anything for him. ]

hey, i'll protect you. so just hurry up and get over here. you're cutting into your nap time.
