Kaeya and Aether haven't been terribly subtle, though. The traveler doesn't make any particular effort to hide the way he likes to eye the curves of Kaeya's thighs whenever the cavalry captain is standing or sitting in the same room; he loves to stare, openly and shamelessly, at that sliver of chest Kaeya keeps exposed right beneath his collar. The cavalry captain has, in turn, been more than welcome to let his eyes linger on the traveler's trim little waistline as long as he likes — he's even been allowed to let his fingers rest on the boy's bare back in public, far too low to be considered appropriate.
Still, the people of Mondstadt must figure — though they can surely all see what's happening in front of them — it's not like that. Kaeya may have certain questionable habits when it comes to his job, but he's a sterling keeper of the law. He's their charming, rakish, beloved Cavalry Captain. And the traveler, the Honorary Knight — he's such a good boy, handsome and full of youthful energy, always willing to help others when they need it. It can't be like that.
The world is full of trusting innocents, and people who are afraid to speak up when they might have suspicions. Even for the other Knights of Favonius, it’s easier to justify it, to turn a blind eye to it. Maybe Aether just has a little crush on Kaeya, and the captain is willing to indulge it on occasion. That seems normal enough for his age, and appropriate for Kaeya's personality. Yes, that's all there is to it.
Because — with all the times Kaeya's mentioned what a shame it is that Aether's underage and can't drink or make merry in the Angel's Share — considering how the traveler always calmly agrees to a non-alcoholic glass of apple cider or wolfhook juice without protest — surely Kaeya isn't the type of person who is low enough to sneak the honorary knight into his office for some private drinking. Surely they haven’t been exchanging sips of illicit wine between kisses, slowly and sensually plying each other with just enough alcohol to make everything feel warm and easy.
Surely Aether isn’t the kind of coquettish slut who would be eagerly straddling Kaeya’s lap, assertively undoing the buttons on his shirt while chasing the taste of wine on his tongue. ]
