THE AMNESIA MEME

Ah, amnesia. The old standby for soap operas, it usually involves a good knock on the head and a complete loss of memory. Ever wanted to do that to your character? Well, now's your chance.

1. Comment with your characters!
2. Others comment. Optionally, go to RNG and roll the scenario. (As to who gets knocked on the head, well, that's up to you!)
3. ???
4. PROFIT.

1. HEAD-ON COLLISION - ... whoops. It was an honest mistake, really! You didn't see that car/tree/post/person/whatever coming, but now you're stumbling out of the wreckage sans memory. Better ask for help.

2. WAIT, WHO ARE YOU? - Okay, so a while ago, you got into... something that caused you to lose your memory. Fortunately, you managed to get by and create a new identity for yourself. Unfortunately, someone new has just entered your life. Or should I say, someone who's a little too familiar...

3. RINSE AND REPEAT - Sigh. Really, this is just so inconvenient. You wake up everyday with no memory of who you are, and have to figure it out over the course of the day, only to fall asleep and have to do it all over again the next day. Good thing someone's there to help you out, right? And what's with all those post-its and notes?

4. THIS ROOM'S TOO WHITE - Welcome to the hospital. You've got an "Unknown" tag on your wrist, a healthy diet of bland hospital food, a steady trickle of doctors coming in to check up on you, and a TV, and nothing else. Looks like someone's coming to help you today, though! Here's to hoping they knew you before you lost your memory.

5. I'M SUPPOSED TO DO WHAT?! - Oh, crap. There's something only you can do right now -- that is, the you who didn't lose your memory, anyway. Better figure out a way out of this mess and how to control your strange abilities before it's too late.

6. FIGHTING FOR THE WRONG SIDE - Uh, oh. Looks like your enemies decided to take advantage of your confused state and convinced you that you're on their side. Here's to hoping your allies can get you back to yourself before you cause some serious damage.

7. JUST TOO TRAUMATIC - You just saw something that's so traumatic you lost your memory because of it. Unfortunately, right now, you have to remember it, or else something really bad happens. Hope you don't regret remembering this!

8. I DON'T WANT THIS - You've been living a peaceful, ordinary life, for a while. And you'd rather it stay that way, because you're not sure if you'd want to remember what went before. Unfortunately, something's coming, and the key to stopping it lies in your memories.

9. NO SUCH THING - Maybe you were a wizard, or a werewolf, or an angel, or a demon, or something else entirely before, or maybe you just knew about the masquerade. Sadly, you've been knocked on the head and now believe yourself to be a perfectly ordinary person. Magic? That doesn't exist, right? Anything can be explained with science, after all! Right?

10. I'M WHO?! - And who the hell are you? Basically, this is the wild card option! Combine one of the above or make up a new one or whatever you want! Go wild!

[For a few days after she'd been brought in, they'd called her Jane Doe on account of her obvious American accent. But privately, the nurses and the orderlies had begun to refer to her as simply The Woman. Because despite her inability to remember much of anything, she was exacting and demanding, in a way that none of them had come to expect from a patient who had been brought in on an injury that'd left cuts and bruises and head trauma similar to a car crash, but without any reports in the area of car crashes.

For her part, the patient herself was unaware she was being either exacting or demanding. It was simply how things were, a pattern of speech, of interaction that felt correct to her despite having absolutely no realization of why that would be. It was muscle memory, no doubt, and she indulged it shamelessly, hoping that by doing so some clue would return through the fog.

No doubt it was the same reason she instinctively pulled her long hair up into a loose knot every waking moment, feeling a distinct wrongness, a distinct vulnerability in the feel of it against the back of her neck.

But days after the incident that left her bereft of memory, the hospital grew stifling, its walls a blank prison, and The Woman once known as Irene Adler makes her way out and into a city she doesn't remember.]

[ Women who wear what is clearly an expensive coat do not usually wear hospital shirts under them; it is the first thing that drew his attention to her like a beacon. The second is the way she stepped into the crowd, as men and women moved aside seemingly by instinct — like her posture and her stride had always commanded the attention, when she wants it to, and perhaps now she does.

He knew a woman like that once. He would have died for her, if death had wanted him. (Death didn't.)

He catches her arm before she manages to cross the street - gently, his hold firm but not painful - and then falls in step alongside her. ]

It's been half a day since Roy pulled Chris from a hummer car crash and seen him to a hospital bed. Half a day since he discovered the government license plates and radioed up a search on them to the tower. Half a day since Batman told him in no uncertain terms to stay with him.

Clearly he's just been upgraded from masked hero to babysitter. Quite the promotion.

Since then, doctors have been in and out, checking on one "Chris Redfield" making sure his vitals are good and his condition comfortable leaving Roy to... wait. He's gone through two vending machine runs, a piss break and at least a dozen short circuits around the hospital lobby, waiting for this guy to wake up. What exactly is so important about Chris that Bats of all people thinks he needs a 24/7 superhero guard detail?]

[Three weeks. And Mike was counting, because Dutch had told him he'd be gone for a couple of days. And when Dutch said 'a couple of days', Mike knew he would take, at most, a week. If anything, he would call them and let them know he would be out for a while longer. And last resort, Mike would contact him instead.

So after one week without news, and another week of static, Mike had enough of waiting. They all had, honestly. Splitting Motorcity between Julie, Texas and himself, and letting Chuck guide them from the headquarters, seemed like the best option at the moment.

This is why he's checking out an abandoned factory in the outskirts of the city by himself - skull in hand, just in case. He's following noises, noises that get louder and more defined the farther he walks into the factory. Quietly too, because as much as he wants the noises to be his friend, he knows odds aren't exactly with him.

But there's a small sigh of relief when he notices the hunched shape of his friend as he works on-- is that a Kanebot? Okay, so maybe Dutch is getting Roth a brother... Who knows. Can't know until he asks. He approaches casually, pocketing his skull.]
