Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? ( anyone want to get married into the mafia? Bruno becomes a captain overseeing the territory of Naples, primarily the local entertainment industry (gambling, restaurants) as well as money-lending, hotels, and harbors for smuggling. his team takes money for security and protection services. love the idea of arranged marriages being more like business deals for ownership and pooling resources, and the act having somewhat of a familiarity in practice within the mafia reserved for untethered and highly devoted members in the organization, and usually devoid of any actual romantic expectations. also totally willing to do something more closer to gen where these two strangers learn to work together and maybe even trust ?? each other, if ship isn't the main concern. canon familiarity not required; i can give a cliffsnotes version over pm with minimal spoilers. basically the mafia has secret magic users. it's pretty neat.

[Atsushi had always known, as a younger prince of Dagda, that he was destined for a political marriage. He hadn't expected it to be the king of Fhirdiad, but if it was a step towards Fodlan reconciling with its neighbors, then there was no way Atsushi could complain about it, was there?

He'd heard a few things about Dimitri, many openly conflicting - that he was the Savior King, that he was a ruthless killer - but this is the first time he's actually met the man he's going to marry.

[No queen or king of Diranda had ever married for love, at least not in the way commoners did. The luckiests of them had been able to actually court a chosen partner, from a handful of optimal choices, before their wedding. The less fortunate hadn't even see their spouses until the wedding. Her own grandfather hadn't even been present at his own wedding with her grandmother, his ship being delayed by storms and an angry sea until three days later. Not even the second-borns and any other progeny a monarch could have had the "priviledge" of marrying for love.]

[Thus, Wiltora had never expected her marriage to be anything but an arrangement. She had, at most and when she was a naive child, hoped to be able to engage in a short courtship, even if unnecessary there was some sense of romance in it. Later, as her father laid sick and weak in bed from poison and her step-mother was controlled by dark arts, she had hoped to at least be able to arrange a marriage that would benefit Diranda and not be a coin change in reward for her kingdom's fall. The Goddess had smiled at her then, allowing her step-mother and father to recover and the fear of her kingdom falling to become a distant worry. That way, once she raised to the throne at the tender age of sixteen, she had been able to not have to worry about marriage for several years. But even that action had a limited number of times that could be used.]

[The continent of Scaldotto was far enough from the lands of Fódlan that the two of them had rarely ever interacted beyond the ocassional trade. For those from Fódlan the lands of Scaldotto were nothing but lands of fairytales and legends, too far to be of interest for them, and for the people of Scaldotto, Fódlan was too fragmented, too busy arguing within itself to be worth getting involved with. But times change and just as news of Fódlan rejoinment came to her ears, so did news of the Holy See of Lontiumian invading the lands of the Grand Duchy of Saffron. The invasion was stopped and the Archbishop had stepped back to his hole, but it was enough to remind her and every other leader of Scaldotto that they were still there and they still had every intention of conquering the whole continent. No one doubted their capacity to keep the Archbishop in check, but Wiltora couldn't afford to just trust the strength of her army and of her allies, after all the main reason why the Holy See was so weak was their lack of allies.]

[News from Fódlan were scare and confuse. Some claimed that the country had united under the banner of the kingdom of Faerghus, with a new Archbishop taking the lead of their Church. Others claimed that a completely new rule had been established under the guidance of a new Archbishop and, maybe, a neighbour king. And others claimed that the Chuch had fallen, that the unifying force had been the iron fist of the Adrestrian empire, bringing with it many changes to the land. Nothing seemed certain other than Fódlan being one again, and that had worried her more than anything. Without clear news of the state of those lands, she couldn't dismiss the possibility of the Holy See seeking an alliance with them. Sure, Fódlan had just came from basically a civil war, the country was weak and hurt, hardly a threat at the moment. But anyone who knew their history lessons was well aware of the strength the land could hold once it stood back on its feet. Fódlan had little to offer at the moment and much to ask for, but with proper nurturement it would become either a powerful ally or an enemy.]

["The early bird catches the worm", had said her tutor once years ago. It was time for her to be that bird. It was a bold move, for sure, unable to be tinted as desperation given the current balance of power in Scaldotto, with the kingdom of Diranda being the biggest force and the most stable one. But she couldn't deny that it was her deep personal knowledge of what the Archbishop was capable of what guided her hand to write a letter for Fódlan's ruler, offering goods, food, labour force and anything else they may need from Diranda. All, in the form of her own hand in marriage to whoever Fódlan's ruler estimated as the best suited for the task of being both a foreign ambassor and the ruler of an allied kingdom. The answer was almost ridiculous simple, the name of her would-be husband and an estimated date for his arrival with advanced apologies as he was still needed back there and thus their marriage would be filled with long times of separation. She counted her blessings in being able to have him by her side during the wedding, at this stage she had been ready to not even have that.]

[No queen or king of Diranda had ever married for love, but that didn't mean their marriages hadn been devoid of it, even if only in the form of a friendship and deep companionship. And Wiltora was ready and willing to try at least for that, after all, the better she got along with her husband the strongest the alliance between Diranda and Fódlan would be. If not for herself as a woman, she owed it to her people as a ruler, to ensure that their king would care for them just as much as for his homeland.]

[Though it is late for a proper courtship, nothing says that some of the main elements of it couldn't be used after marrying. Embroidery had never been one of her hobbies, a skill learned just because she had to and one she didn't practice as much as she should, but she had dusted it off enough to be able to produce a handkerchief worthy a king, both his family's coat of arms and the one of her family combining together. An offer of peace between the two, a first step towards a positive marriage, or so she hopes as she stands in front of the door to his office, knocking on it with ease.]
