Well, you've really done it now. You're in a mental institution. Maybe it's a modern facility with a therapy garden, compassionate staff members, and a warm environment meant to help nurse people back to health, or maybe it's a glorified dungeon where the government shoves people they don't want to deal with and patients are abused by staff. Regardless of what it is, you're there, and it doesn't look like they're planning on letting you out any time soon. 

Maybe you're actually not supposed to be there and you're trying to arrange for your release. Maybe you actually are meant to be there and you're struggling with your illness. Maybe you're not a patient at all and you're just there to visit or earn your paycheck. It's up to you.

[They're strange, Wanda and Coda are. Even among the patients here, the pair of them stand out. Perhaps that's why they have a rainbow of pills in their cups every morning. Perhaps that's why the other patients seem to avoid them, an edge of wariness to their vacant stares when turned in the direction of the pair.

And perhaps that's why they tend to gravitate toward one another silently, sharing meals and what moments of quiet time they're allowed to share.

It is the lull between dinner and bedtime; some of the newer patients have their most intense therapy sessions in the evening, but Coda and Wanda aren't among them. They're allowed highly-supervised free time in the common area, a few board games and tattered paperback novels on a shelf; a raggedy old leather couch in front of a TV that plays mostly only sports. Coda, barefoot and in the paper-thin hospital pajamas, is standing by one of the (barred, of course) windows, looking out toward the forest that surrounds the asylum.]

[It's the strangest thing, truly; the asylum's been having power outages and computer failures over the past couple months, often coinciding with the times of morning or afternoon therapy sessions (individual and group). Some of the staff have even talked about the air feeling charged, like the moment before a lightning strike.

Stiles got wind of this and worked his way into the facility, but it's hard to narrow the effects down to any individual, patient or staff. Still, if he wants to start with the obvious, the patient with the apparently-natural pure white hair and silver eyes might be someone who's not normal. Maybe. Who knows.

Right now it's lunchtime, and Coda (who's always being watched to ensure they eat; anorexia is a diagnosis on their chart) is sitting alone in their flimsy pajama-like clothes, at a table in a far corner of the room. This might be a good time to approach them, Stiles.]

Ryou's eyes fluttered. It took him a moment to remember where he was until he saw the chart on the wall.

Oh. Right. I was dropped off here yesterday.

Supposedly he had badly injured three of his classmates in a fight. He couldn't remember it. Severe case of 'disassociation' they said. He really wished that he could remember. For two reasons. One being that he could actually remember how to win a fight so he wouldn't lose all the ones he could remember and second, so that it wasn't just the world's word against his that he was crazy. But there was one thing...

Sometimes when he looked in the mirror he could swear he saw the shadow of someone else there. Someone like himself, but darker. He wondered if he could get up the courage to tell the psychiatrist. If he told the truth, would they ever let him leave? And then there was the guilty part of him that wondered if he deserved to be here. If he really did what people had said he did who could blame them for locking him away?

Ryou stood and headed for the asylum common room. They would be coming soon to shove their cocktail of pills at him. He needed to study a game while he had a clear head.

"Are you looking for games?"

The voice comes from behind Ryou, like a breathy wheeze. The air rattles in his lungs like he's got pneumonia still, but he's recovering. Nagito is lucky like that. He's always lucky like that, even when he ended up in this place where he only sees his friends (friend) once a month, and only kept lucid with pills and potions from the nice men and women who looked after them. He'd been on an IV for a few weeks before this, and he was finally allowed to mill around and get some exercise to try and recuperate in a healthy, normal fashion.

The two boys look similar. Their thick shock of white hair and light eyes and pale skin make them look like ghosts haunting the commons of this deathly place where consciousness rots away like the holes slowly deteriorating Nagito's frontal cortex. It draws Nagito to Ryou right away: someone new he doesn't recognise from weeks prior, before he'd been put infirm. He always talked to the new people, always tried to make friends, and this boy seemed a similar age to himself.

His constitution was bad, but he wasn't a risk to himself or others anymore... health wise. Nagito was always a little off-kilter, a little strange, but so was everyone else in here. It was, partially, why he talked to new people so much. They had yet to clue in on how odd and invasive he was. He was cheerful as he smiled down at the other boy, leaning his hand against the table to support himself. He still felt a little weak, but he wanted to socialise.

"There's plenty of things they have around here to play... In that box there."

Why else would he be in the common area, around the game table? There were board games (with pieces missing,) sets of cards, yahtzee dice, lots of things. But Nagito didn't move toward it, instead grabbing for something inside of the big green sweatshirt he wore over a tshirt that hung off his skeletal frame with his free hand. He fumbled for a moment, green eyes glancing back and forth, before procuring something sharp from inside. Sharp and whittled down into a point. Something that looked violent.

"But it doesn't have to be any of those... I really like games of chance. Do you?"

Meng Yao leaned against the window frame looking at the courtyard below. He was not interacting with anyone else at the moment, just lost to his own numbness and thoughts. He supposed the elixers they gave him did that. Smart of them, actually. His mind was his greatest weapon. He was pretty sure he would be sitting in a prison cell and not this facility in Gusu if Lan Xichen hadn't been able to convince the populace that it was a mental breakdown that had led to most of his criminal activity.

Though, lunatic was hardly a better label than villain. His life may as well be over. The 'heroes' sure practiced a strange brand of mercy.

So here he was, a test subject for cultivation that focused on rehabilitation. Trust the Lan clan of Gusu to come up with something so altruistic. It was really boring. A part of him wished they had actually killed him now. Maybe he would get a visitor today. Maybe he'd throw himself out of this window. He was in the middle of making up his mind when he heard a voice behind him.

If there was one thing Rocket knew, it was that there was always a way out of a place like this, and maybe you needed a multi-part plan like some kind of bank heist, and maybe you just needed light fingers and a trusting candystriper.

She knew there had been other times, after the fire, after the stabbing, but those had both been justified as far as she was concerned, and she honestly had no idea that she was actually haunting the building that had once been Lennox House and then a series of other hospitals, asylums and recovery centers, up to the current one.

They've been in the facility for well over a year, and there's a few people who've noticed that the lights tend to flicker and computers go down at random when Coda gets upset.

Ryou immediately noticed the other boy when he glanced to his left. It would have been hard to miss him. Not many people had his hair color in common.]

Of course there is, all of the nurses and doctors will say so, even though there are pictures that look oddly like him going back for centuries if one looks in the right place... The young man is a bundle of frenetic energy, hardly able to sit still in the chair, nose twitching, fiddling with his clothes, tugging at his hair. His heart's beating a mile a minute, eyes darting around the room nervously.

The oddest part of all, perhaps, is the fact that he inexplicably smells like rabbit fur.]

[ there's a gap in his memory between last night's patrol and waking up this morning in a straightjacket. he spends a day fighting the orderlies and security, drugged up and placed in restraints until he finally calms down and starts to think. who could have put him here? hugo strange, maybe? he wasn't crazy. he wasn't crazy.

he spends another week trying gaining their trust back, assuring them that he's finally calmed down, adjusted to the situation, that he won't fight back, and pretends to take his pills like a good boy. on day nine, they finally let him out into recreation... ]

[ Jason's in the same predicament, only- he doesn't calm down so easily because fuck this, and he'll fight his way out of here tooth and nail if he has to.

At the moment it matters less to him who did this, and more how the hell he's gonna get out of here- and then once he does that, he'll find who did this and put a bullet in their head. Getting out isn't as simple when he keeps on fighting, though. It takes Jason a handful of days longer than it takes Bruce to calm himself down enough and play along, and then finally he's set out into recreation as well.

The first thing he does is surveys the area in the most subtle way, looking for weak spots and staff members. He's still too drugged up to be completely sharp about it, but it's a start. ]

Vanya Hargreeves | The Umbrella Academy | OTA (TW: Suicidal ideation)

It was inevitable for Vanya to show up here eventually. She attempted suicide once with her medication, and her neighbor discovered her when she was looking for her cat again. That landed her in the ward for two days. Then as soon as she left, she cut her wrists open in what she thought was an isolated spot outside of the city, and she was discovered by some teens looking for alone time. Now she's back in the ward, maybe permanently this time.

A part of her hopes it's permanent. Things are quieter in her head in this place, when she doesn't have to think about the next thing she has to do. She doesn't cooperate in therapy sessions, but that's okay too because it just means that she'll be here longer.

She's not allowed to have her violin. They're worried about her using the strings to hang herself. That's the only thing that makes her sad about the place. But at least they have a piano, and she can play that.

A 72 hour psych hold extended into landing himself here, in Sunnyhill Psychiatric, where some of the orderlies knew him by name. They claimed schizophrenia and it was at least three hots and a cot in a better place than jail, right? He didn’t mind having a place to sleep and drugs freely given to him, honestly it was practically paradise for him.

He’s wandering through the hallway with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders when he hears soft piano notes coming from the music room down the hall. Something about it feels... familiar but he isn’t sure where he knows it from.

All the more reason to follow the sound to the room it’s coming from.

[ A 13 year old kid thinking he is 58? Suffering PTSD from the apocalpyse? Basically he's powers are being affected by the medication, but that doesn't stop him from trying to escape.

So interactions could be either another patient is trying to escape with him or they could be a staff member assigned to be his therapists or what not. I'll roll with any ideas offered up.]

[Alice Liddell is a lifer at the institution. PTSD with a generous helping of schizophrenia aggravated by losing her whole family in a fire when she was ten. As these things go, she's a gentle patient who is not prone to violence or destructive fits, but she makes up for it in her acid and dismissive demeanor. The staff joke that that's the reason why she and her roommate Five are the only ones who can tolerate each other. They're both equally unpleasant to be around.

For her part, Alice is currently using her crayons to color her half of the room with murals that defy imagining, with fantastical anthropomorphized animals and colors so vivid that they don't seem real. It's an exercise in patience to get the effect with crayons, but Alice has nothing but time.]

You're utterly mad if you think you can get out through the window. [She says it without looking at Five, but she can feel him staring at the window, eyeing the metal bars over them. They're on the second floor, so a fall would be survivable, but it'd probably lead to at least a broken bone. She's well aware of how he feels about being locked up.]

She seems the most docile and even friendly when she is allowed to go outside and walk in the garden. ]
