[ Weird Post-Palpatine/First Order goes Boom holiday party with plenty of drunken assholes who Ben really didn't wanna join, but then kinda had to when someone broke into whereever his bunk is currently located and aggressively conga line danced him into the revelry and through events which are surely convoluted and possibly choreographed he got stuck under a stupid plant with Rey.

[ The debate went something like this: If he was posing as a student teacher, he probably shouldn't be fraternizing with the students, right? And anyways, he shouldn't get too close to any humans. That always lead to trouble. Case in point: Ichigo, who presumably would also be at this Crispmas party. That wasn't a problem, obviously, except that it was for some reason that Renji couldn't quite put his finger on. The case against accepting Keigo's invitation was solid. Ironclad, even.

But if he didn't go, Keigo would be upset. And he'd never hear the end of it.

So Renji swung by later in the evening. Late enough that he wouldn't have to stay too long in such a perilous situation while still making an appearance. Unfortunately, Renji had gravely miscalculated how late teenagers could stay up and party when their parents weren't home and there was free access to drinks. And between the rowdy guests and the disconcertingly large apartment and this gigai having a much lower alcohol tolerance than he was used to, he hadn't managed to exchange more than two words with the host all night.

Until this moment, when the festivities were dying down and Renji ran into Keigo in the hall. Almost literally, as he had spent the last hour in increasing desperation trying to find him. To bid a proper goodbye to his host, obviously. He might have been raised by wolves, but those wolves had taught him proper manners. ]

Ah... [ Renji stepped back, giving Keigo space after he almost bowled him over trying to find him. Perfectly positioning himself under the mistletoe hanging from the pendant light. ] I was lookin' for you.

[ There was a moment as Renji fumbled for the words, then. A goodbye was a little abrupt. Complimenting the home wasn't really his style. And the sake was good, but that wasn't really what he wanted to tell Keigo anyways. A hand rubbed at the back of his neck absently, the alcohol flush bright on his cheeks. ]

[ Patrol was quiet tonight. It had been quiet for several nights in a row now, which was probably why the area had slowly been accumulating an array of festive decorations. Even Zero couldn't find it in him to scold the security team for trying to brighten the place up a little. Baubles hung from the sparse trees surrounding the outpost, flickering lights were clipped to the thick, metal railings. Someone who was particularly enterprising had managed to scrounge together a bush of mistletoe tied in bright blue ribbon and dangled it off a light post.

Maybe it had become a habit now, fixing the place up for the humans even though they were no longer around. From this small, northern outpost to the entire, blighted planet. Working diligently to mend what could be mended, change what could be changed, and seeing their incremental progress day by day. A dangling ornament here, a twinkling bulb there. That mistletoe, a parasite, was flourishing again was reassuring in its own way. It wouldn't survive if the rest of the world hadn't.

Speaking of parasites. Zero's eyes narrowed. Maybe this night wasn't quite as silent as he thought it would be. Just beyond the turn, he sensed... something. Someone. Cloaking their presence well, but not well enough. ]

You must not think much of the Maverick Hunters if you think you can sneak past me.

[ Zero drew his Z-Saber, the beam of his blade melting the dusting of snow on the ground in a flash of heat. His feet shifted as he readied himself for whoever was about to round that corner. ]
