1. MILITARY - You took an oath to defend and protect your people. You'll do it to your last breath.
2. EXPLORATION - The most important world out there is the one that hasn't yet been found.
3. COMMERCE - You're a trader or a shipper of goods.
4. COLONIZATION - It's your job to tame the new wilderness.
5. PIRACY - If you can take it, it's yours.

Why:
1. AT WAR - It could be a civil war or a hostile race who wants you for spare parts. Time for battle stations!
2. ALIEN INFESTATION - Something's stuck to somebody's face or brain stem, or maybe there's a pod hidden somewhere. Or is there an armada headed your way?
3. CORRUPT GOVERNMENT - The people handing down the orders aren't exactly looking out for everyone's best interest.
4. PLANET IN DANGER - There's a meteor about to slam into a planet or a star about to explode. Now what?
5. FIRST CONTACT - This is the first time anyone of your race has come into contact with someone from this new race. How's the meet and greet going?

[on a pit stop on some planet or another... Well, nothing quite like pulling off another heist for their jewel-loving captain. For her anyway, the pilot of the vessel couldn't care less. The problem with taking a rest was the whole 'staying incognito' bit... Omega couldn't leave the ship at all, his build was so recognizable (though in late night discussions, all three members of Team Dark had to agree that perhaps having Omega stay aboard ship at all times was the safest course of action. No one would dare steal their ship while he was aboard)

Running away from Black Arms while stealing priceless space rocks from under their noses certainly doesn't help with their infamy. Hopefully, the aliens wouldn't catch up to them too quickly... Not after that last aerial maneuver Shadow had to pull off to get those blasted Black Arms off their tail.

... Ugh.

So he's sitting at the bar counter, enjoying a drink while Omega dealt with the resupply and Rouge handled the loot. Literally? Figuratively? She's probably keeping all the nice quality gems for herself anyway (And that was none of Shadow's concerns)]

He nodded to the brave young men and women who had volunteered for this mission, and moved the robotic crab like robot he piloted town the halls of the battle cruiser.]

Tali had to admit she was a little jittery. This was the first time they'd be in contact with this new species--humans she'd heard they were called--and their United Federation of Planets. Some were insisting that they could help the Flotilla with their fight against the geth.Of coruse, there were more reactionary elements that still demanded that the quarians go their own way and not except charity from other species.

She was excited though. A chance to see a brand new starship with all of its amazing technology! To meet a brand new alien face-to-face. Or face-to-helmet, at least. Transporter technology was unknown amongst the quarians and greatly distrusted, so they'd chosen to take one of their shuttles across the gulf between the Enterprise and the outpost ships that prevented the massive ship from continuing closer to the Flotilla and its precious gardenships.

The young quarian stirred from her reverie as the shuttle set down on the eck of the Enterprise's shuttle bay, then took a breath and stood to move to the hatchway. A glance at the others in the team, a nod to their marine escort, and the hatchway opened to a yet unseen world.

After all, he was standing in front of the gate, waiting for his team. They haven't seen the Stargate yet. That was one of the things they liked to surprise the newbies with.]

[As far as engineering assistants go... Shrieky is pretty bad at it. Sometimes he drops food in the engines, sometimes he drops tools into them. He either can't or won't read the technical guides, and he refers to all problems which arise with creative descriptions rather than by the technical terminology he has been taught.

Basically all he's good for is carrying things, and possibly occasionally lifting an octopus up to difficult to reach locations.]

In addition to confiscated weaponry and toxins there's a prisoner down in the hold. He's chained to the wall and gagged, as well as woozy from a constant stream of tranquilizers injected into his system. His cell is under heavy guard--was under heavy guard, until they were killed during the attack.

With the tranquilizer stream turned off, Music Meister's starting to wake up.]
