A PARTY FOR EVERYONE MEME
Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, you're at a party! Maybe you snuck in or were actually invited or dragged here against your will, or possibly even the lovely host that started it all? Whatever the reason, you're stuck here for a while so... might as well enjoy the free food, right?
How to Play:
— Comment with your character and preferences. Additionally, a short blurb about what they can be found doing at said party would be helpful for those tagging in.
— Others choose a setting and scenario and reply.
— Have fun or be miserable with friends and strangers alike!
SETTING
- House Party: Just a party someone decided to throw at their house, or maybe they were smart enough to rent one for the evening? Whether it's a cramped one-story or a spacious mansion, there's enough food and entertainment to go around!
- Pool Party: A pool at a house? On a yacht? Maybe even a pool by the beach? Hope you brought a floatie if you don't know how to swim! And a bathing suit. Unless it's a nude party...?
- Slumber Party: Adults can have them too! No one really outgrows gossip or grooming or movies or sleep, not that there's ever much of that going on. Who wouldn't love a party you get to wear pajamas to?
- Old-Fashioned Ball: Ladies and gentlemen, don your finest gown and suit and prepare to dance the night away! Hopefully with a prince or princess, am I right?
- Tea Party: For the classy folks who love getting all dressed up for tea and biscuits. There's probably a lovely view of a garden and fountain nearby for that extra luxurious touch.
- Birthday Party: You're never too old to celebrate your birthday. Did you just turn legal drinking age? Or maybe someone threw a surprise party just for you! Make it as big or small of a spectacle as you want - that is, if you have any say in the matter.
- Holiday Party: The holidays are here, or just around the corner. Did you come bearing gifts or food or ugly sweaters? At the very least be sure to spread some holiday cheer!
- Costume Party: You can be anyone or anything you want to be! Like a knight, or a lion. Or a sexy knight and a sexy lion. Just make sure it's not a PG party you're showing up half-naked to.
- Bachelor(ette) Party: Sorry kiddos, this one's for the grown-ups. Show your best girl or buddy a night to remember before they kiss the single life goodbye! Or maybe you don't know the bride or groom-to-be at all and you're just here for the strippers.
- Other: Mix and match or feel free to use others not listed!
SCENARIOS
- Dancing: It's not a party without music now is it? Don't be shy, ask someone cute for a dance!
- Food & Drinks: The food's free and there's drinks all around! Unless there's children here. In which case, only adults get the special juice! Just remember, no one likes to babysit a drunk.
- Party Games: 7 Minutes In Heaven, anyone? Never Have I Ever? Let's be honest, they're mostly drinking games. But sometimes a simple game of cards or Pin the Tail On the Donkey can be fun too!
- Mingling: Hey, doesn't that person look familiar? Did you hear about that couple that broke up in the other room? It's a social event so find something, anything, to be social about!
- Entertainment: You're here either to entertain or be entertained. Are there exotic dancers? Enchanting singers? Captivating magicians? Sit back and enjoy the show or have fun providing a service!
- Privacy: Too much noise and not enough personal space? There's always a place somewhere in the back you can escape to. Just don't be surprised if you're not the only one seeking some peace and quiet.
- Shady Business: A party can be a good place to do business, legal or not. Maybe you're a client, or just an innocent party-goer walking into the wrong place at the wrong time. Or maybe you're the shady one around here. Either way, nobody wants any trouble... Right?
- Fireworks: A big party needs a big finisher after all! Enjoy the view with a friend or run around with some sparklers of your own. Preferably sober.
- Wildcard: It's a party guys, go wild!

birthdaybirthdaybirthday
After all, this was nothing like a birthday under the sea, nothing like anything in the depths, past certain things the royal family got up to.
And, obviously, they were far from that.
But every party has lulls, every party has a time where someone isn't being paid attention to - even when that someone, those someones are the guests of honor. So in one of those moments, Jade sees his chance and takes it, grabs Floyd's wrist and tugs him towards the back room.]
Floyd.
[There are any number of reasons they could want to slip away, if caught. The impulse to work, when in the lounge. Floyd's mood beginning to sour. Jade's mood beginning to sour. The need to check in with their parents, because it is their birthday, after all. It'll be fine.]
no subject
[Floyd's mood is a surprisingly clear sky. Things are fun, things are exciting, he can keep going for a long, long time. When Jade pulls him away, he doesn't even think about either needing a reprieve. He just thinks,]
Jade~ [with that cheery lilt.]
[When his brain does catch up to, hm, Jade probably pulled him aside for a reason, the reasons that roll through his mind are simple and few. ah, right, it must be because he hasn't said-]
Happy birthday, Jade. [he says, leaning most of his weight on the other's shoulder once they were out of sight.]
no subject
Well. Because he might as well be.
He almost, almost hates to cast even the slightest bit of a shadow on it, but he's not selfless enough to let this moment slip through his fingers. Floyd leans on his shoulder, and he leans back against him, slotting into him far, far too naturally, with a light smile and a sigh.]
Happy birthday, Floyd.
[Still not letting go of his wrist. Still not pulling them back out into the public eye.]
I want to keep you a while. Can I?
no subject
Hm? [there's something funny about the way Jade asks it. They were so different, sometimes, in how they chased things they wanted!]
Eh, Jade, were you feeling lonely? Even with everyone around?
[The lean slowly morphs itself into something more like a hold. His arms come up to secure themselves leisurely around the other's waist, linking wrists right above the other's hips.]
Well, a little while wouldn't be bad.
no subject
But he doesn't think about it. He has Floyd's arms around his waist, and he can lean into him, shift to slide an arm around his twin's waist in kind.
Yes, this is more like it.]
Hmmhm. I just missed you, you know?
[~Eeh, but I was right there~! You're silly, Jade~!]
Everyone else was stealing your attention.
no subject
Even though I was right there~? [The second statement is simpler, easier. He missed Floyd's attention.]
Ah, well, you can be a little spoiled. It's your birthday, after all.
[he tilts his neck up, nestling himself in the crook of Jade's neck]
I'll want to play more. [A promise. He wasn't going to be exclusive today, even if it was their day.] But here, here, is this better~?
no subject
And, well, to a lesser extent - Floyd can be disliked, because his magic will protect him. Jade must be liked to ensure his magic, if needed, would have the greatest chance of success.
Annoying. Inconvenient.]
So spoil me, Floyd.
[It's more than a little conspiratorial. With Floyd nestled up against him, the world is set back in its place, all is right, the seas are calm, and he can just simply be.
Even if they'll have to go out and play with the landdwellers some more. He wouldn't take that fun from his brother, either, even if he's being selfish, right now.]
Oya, I won't stop you from going to play on your birthday. But...~ Yes, this is better. For now.
no subject
[Floyd lets his weight rest on the other. It was the indulgence of taking care. Ultimately, with how their relationship worked, this was a way to spoil him. It was a way for Jade to be the only one with his attention. To an outsider, it might not look like it, but it was Floyd's way of doling out a specialty.]
Is it still weird for you, Jade? Our second birthday on the surface~?
[Inevitably, it became a party when Azul was involved. Since they were important to Azul, he wanted everyone else to know of their importance. It was less opulent when he was still trying to wrap his tentacles around the various powers that be in the school, but it was Azul saying, yes, look at the important people that follow me.]
It's funny, when normally you're so much better at blending in~
no subject
Besides, it was a good excuse to steal away little moments like this.
So he sighs when he feels Floyd's full weight leaning on him, nestles in a little closer to both support him and accommodate him taking more of his space. Anyone else would think he was being put-upon, but... well, that was part of the illusion, too, wasn't it?]
It is.
[The first year, he'd tried to dissuade Azul from having a big party for them at all. They'd be satisfied with a little affair with the three of them and maybe a few others... but no, it had been a special evening in the lounge. This year was even more opulent, and he was both flattered and the tiniest bit... annoyed, almost. It was for them, but not about them, and Azul would pay for that in time, but for now... Floyd.]
And it's easier to blend in when they're not paying as much attention to me, you know?
[Just a shady figure, helping Azul to pull strings. Not... this.]
no subject
Ah, but... I think it would be nice for Jade to have attention for at least one day... After all, all those little fishies need to know exactly how good you are.
[Floyd wasn't the type to base his importance on the people around him. He wasn't a braggart like Azul. He wasn't insure. He just knew that Jade was leagues above the landwalkers. And, well, they should know that.]
Oh! You should make some of them promise to go to a mountain with you!
[He perks up, all smiles. That was somewhere where Jade could use having a few little fishies swimming around, right?]
You know, all that stuff we can only do because we're here.
6
Nyehehehe! This is gonna be a piece of cake...!
no subject
Seal! [a turn and- hey, Floyd, we're pretty sure you're not supposed to try and grab magical pseudocats by the head? That's what he's trying to do, at least- not even going for the scruff of the neck or that convenient bow, just right for the head.]
Do you have a birthday present for me~?
no subject
( grim ducks and jumps back, trying to keep his head and the pie distinctly not-grabbed. )
Don't squeeze me! Not until I complete my challenge!
( taking advantage of floyd reaching down to grab him, grim jumps and chucks the pie as hard as he can with both his paws. )
Take this gift from the basketball club!
Have to make the most of the timing on the birthday one
And as if the amount of people around him wasn't bad enough, Floyd was always so... clingy. And loud. And cheerful. Why do people have to be so cheerful? Better to get this over with, then he can leave.]
H-Happy birthday, Floyd. [Don't be so loud answering him back, please Floyd, don't draw any more attention to him than there has to be.]
[ooc: I am still voice testing him, so sorry if I go a bit ooc with him, still getting the hang of his voice :)]
y'gotta! (i'm sure you'll do fine~)
Eh? Firefly squid... is that really you?
[Floyd's not being loud, thank goodness but he is surprised to see Idia and... worse than surprised, he's interested. He came? In person? How funny! He reaches out to pinch the upperclassman's cheeks to check that he's real and not just some very elaborate hologram.]
[(also just because it's funny)]
no subject
At least until those cheek pinches.]
Ee! [His voice hitched up with the shocked exclamation, having not expected that at all! He wasn't sure what to expect, but that hadn't even been on the list!] Wh-What are you doing?!

Asura is not typically fond of loud noises, crowds, social interaction and so on. Being the embodiment of fear doesn't just mean he likes to be spooky, it means he's scared of everything. This is why he can be found in the kitchen. Under the table. Shivering.
[b]
Asura is a pretty changeable guy, however. Which is a fun way of saying a lunatic. Which is why when a particular song hits just right, Asura can be found shirtless, breakdancing almost violently around the room.

Or maybe you'd just like to share a drink. Endless possibilities!)

The sight of a drunken minister of finance in the process of wrapping a tie around his head is her signal to pull the ejection lever on the situation. Tanya politely excuses herself and hurries to the balcony for a breath of fresh air. She stands there with her glass in hand, surveying the land. Beside her is a man she does not recognise. Tanya takes a sip of her juice and states matter-of-factly: ]
I want to scream.
no subject
And so, the utter futile pretense of this particular party...really isn't very difficult to divine at all, no. Which is perhaps what wears Jade's patience thin a bit more quickly than usual, this time around; the minister of finance hadn't reached his sixth drink in a row quite yet, when Jade had artfully abandoned the dining room himself, but he knows when lingering any longer is about to pry his naturally acerbic edge out from his chest and into spoken word, and he's not quite ready to get demoted just yet. Thus--the balcony. Mercifully empty, and quiet......for about fifteen minutes or so, anyway, before somebody else comes floundering in for refuge too.
Jade looks over--and finds himself having to look down, upon realizing that the head of blond hair joining his appreciation of the scenery just barely clears the railing before them enough for a proper look. Ah, it's still a tad jarring, even to him...but at least it isn't terribly difficult to recognize her at all--this prodigious "child knight", so to speak, of the Empire visiting presently. With quite an interesting remark, right out the gate!]
Well, they do say that acknowledging an urge is the first step to overcoming it! A very bold move, stating it outright. [Jade smiles down at her pleasantly--honestly, it's probably the most genuine smile he's found this entire evening--and takes a sip from his own glass of wine in turn, evidently quite unperturbed by this news.] Of course, if that's actually a warning, I do appreciate this too. But I'd like to request that I at least get to finish my drink here, before you go through with it! It'd look quite terrible for me to be in the vicinity while you scream bloody murder, after all; being framed for that sort of thing is very tiresome, and I'd rather not repeat the experience.
no subject
Rest assured that my vocalisations will be drowned by their braying.
[ Her undeveloped vocal cords are no match for the din at their backs. Tanya turns her head and raises her chin to regard the man in earnest. If her name does not precede her, her uniform is an identifier of her allegiance. There is a lot to unpack in his awfully candid statement, an endeavour that will come easier if she knows his credentials, but to be frank it is of some consolation to meet someone just as exasperated with the proceedings. Her pinkish lips curve as she extends her hand. ]
Major Tanya Degurechaff of the Imperial 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion, pleased to make your acquaintance. It may come to you as a relief that I am here in the capacity of a conversation piece instead of a saboteur.
no subject
[Honestly, it would be aggravating to the highest degree, if he were the sort of person given to experiencing a feeling like that at a stronger and longer-lasting sort of duration. But, for better or worse, Jade is...not that sort of person. And so it's a vague and prickling weight of irritation that lingers in a point somewhere between chest and throat, instead, easy enough to tuck down and away from any visibility on his face. Externally there remains only placid amusement, even as he speaks, as if the reveling men in the next room are not in fact his own superiors and co-workers in the most technical sense.
The fact that this party is a front--the fact that things are very inevitably going to be a great deal less festive, in the next few weeks (perhaps even days)--it's plain as day to him, especially now that he's been here to experience it for himself thus far. But Jade is used to be being surrounded by people perpetually slower on the uptake; people who wouldn't believe him anyway if he brought it up off-hand, especially in the middle of a party like this. It'll need to be a formal report with all the necessary citations for the evidence, passed through several hands and then most likely rendered futile anyway, with the very narrow margin of time they've ended up cornered into at this point. And it's not, ideal, and it would be remarkably easy to accordingly bend a grudge at the nearest Imperial uniform in sight--
But for some reason Jade finds that he feels nothing of the sort at this particular moment, peering down with curiosity at this small soldier staring back up at him in turn. Her colors might be plainly Imperial, yes, but here on this balcony they already somehow manage to share far more common ground than the reveling crowd behind them, a mutual exasperation at the current affairs. She speaks in a fashion far beyond her apparent years, and extends a hand; Jade takes it promptly in turn, with little hesitation and a short laugh.]
I don't know, that would be something a saboteur worth their salt would say, wouldn't it? But I suppose I can take your word for it! After all, your best window for surprise has already passed, so you'd have doubtless made your move by now. [There's no clear ill implication in the tone; merely the same idle amusement that continues to play at the edges of his smile. The handshake in the meantime is professional as they come, brief but firm. (If not a little odd, the feeling of it--grasping such a small hand in this sort of capacity, and all--but he's not about to discriminate there, you know?)] Colonel Jade Curtiss, of the Third Division in the Malkuth Imperial Forces. Having this opportunity to speak with you properly is a pleasure in turn, Major Degurechaff! Rumors speak highly of you, but rumors are a poor substitute for a proper conversation, wouldn't you agree?
no subject
I... fear hearsay tends towards the extreme, sir. I'm neither the devil nor angel I am purported to be. Though, I admit that few of us truly see us for ourselves.
[ She is taking a second to reconcile the disclosure of his rank with the irreverence of her initial remark. Though international military structures come in numerous permutations, the rank of colonel is generally significant and commands respect. Her duty is to placate her hosts with sanitised anecdotes of life on the front and appear photogenic, not to offend a senior officer with unsolicited commentary! His sense of humour about the situation is a weight off her shoulders, but that leeway is not to be taken for granted; every effective colonel possesses a measure of cunning. Furthermore, has she not heard of a certain Jade Curtiss before? The Fatherland has come to feast on complacent prey, yet another imperial behemoth has descended on its meal. Tanya looks to the darkened landscape where reinforcements from Malkuth may yet be lying in wait, but much to her chagrin, the bar of the railing obstructs her sight. The girl frowns. ]
Colonel, I believe you and I are both aware that celebrations are short-lived in times of war.
[ Could she persuade him to abandon this doomed project? His appreciation of her legend has afforded her his ear. The cost–benefit analysis of a war between their respective empires spells a bleak outcome for both nations. He is likely cognizant of this. ]
I have seen stately buildings reduced to rubble in the blink of an eye, but our hosts appear unconcerned for their precarious futures.
[ Suddenly, the girl turns and places her hand on his forearm. ]
Perhaps, sir, we should leave them behind?
no subject
[Spoken from experience, but Tanya probably already knows that too--stories from battlefields have that sort of tendency to go around. Such as the tales of Jade Curtiss the Necromancer, yes; his preternatural talent as a magus is a verified truth, but the other stories are harder to judge, vague and strange--the faces of soldiers that should have been long dead sometimes glimpsed in his battalion, the corpses that mysteriously vanish from the combat fields he visits. Or so they say, anyway, nervous murmurs over drinks in bars and barracks...
It probably doesn't help that Jade makes little effort to actually dispel those rumors, either, and so they've travelled all the farther. Perhaps even to her Empire, quite possibly...but how privy Tanya herself is to them is something that remains to be seen. She seems to have some sort of reaction to the disclosure of his rank and affiliation, carefully composed as it is, but there could be a variety of reasons for that as well--her attempted second glance over the balcony afterwards points to a different concern from macabre rumors, after all. Her diminutive age muddies things a bit as well, though not necessarily in the way it might for most; as he'd just said out loud, Jade is well aware of how every rumor starts from a kernel of truth. An angel or devil--no, it's much too soon to say of the girl before him presently just yet. But her combat record isn't all shining exaggeration flaunted by her superiors in front of the party earlier, now is it? ...And Jade knows--better than most--just how terrible certain sorts of children can be. Those ones filled with too much cleverness and too little of anything else...
What wheels might be turning in her head even now? Her Empire and Malkuth's...could have better relations, undoubtedly. Perhaps she's already guessed as to what he's actually doing here--and is seeking now to avert it, insomuch as she can. The likelihood of this increases, when she turns and places a hand on his arm the way she does, but the specifics of what she might be angling for are less clear. So, glancing down at her hand with mild surprise in turn, Jade voices the assumption most likely to narrow things down, the same humor in his tone but eyebrows also arching slightly now.]
My, leave them behind! Quite a bold proposal...but there's virtue in being forthright about these things. You know, I'd be dishonest to say that simply leaving hasn't crossed my mind a few times already too... [Lips curving, he casts his glance back out over the balcony from his own taller vantage point, and tilts his head with a thoughtful hum.] I don't much enjoy these sorts of parties in the least, after all. I suppose a great leap over the balcony would be quite the dramatic escape...or did you have another route in mind? [Very literal suggestions, yes...intentionally so. If she were not being literal, she'll likely need to specify now.]
no subject
I do. I suggest we navigate this bacchanal as we would the chaos of battle—calmly, and with authority, for lucidity is on our side.
[ Her meaning is twofold: not only do they possess their faculties but also the clarity of mind to anticipate the fate of their hosts. Her hand on his arm was a gamble from which he did not appear to recoil. Most humans retain a primeval attraction to touch and as such even the smallest gesture can prove a powerful motivator. Tanya tables her glass and motions for Jade to follow with a conspiratorial smile. The prime minister and his retinue have broken into a folk dance and pay no heed to the escapees weaving past the attendees. A consular chastises Curtiss for bringing his adorable daughter to the party and slumps into the tablecloth as Tanya visibly quickens her pace. They exit onto the granite steps of the embassy and into the humidity of a tropical clime, where the major stops to inhale the comparatively fresh air. She opens her eyes. ]
At last we find ourselves among peers. The so-called Devil and the Necromancer.
[ Like living fables they have grown alienated from ordinary men. Her gaze holds his. ]
I believe you have deduced the future, but this fledgling government, inexperienced in the study of military logistics, has rejected your augury to dance the dance of death in blissful ignorance. Have you decided whether to stay for the burial, Colonel Curtiss?

Can't go pass the birthday party prompt considing the timing
If he has to be here then may as well make it as quick as possible, though it's clear by how he's holding himself Idia really doesn't want to be here. Not that he wants to normally be anywhere with this amount of people. As if he isn't already slumped over like he normally is, Idia is looking like he's only a couple of seconds away from hiding in his hood to give some sort of barrier between him and the other occupants of the party.]
Happy birthday, Jade. [Ok, the plan; make the rounds to wish them a happy birthday, pocket as much candy as he can, then leave.
Simple. Can't go wrong. Right?]
