The Lap Pillow Meme

From TV Tropes: A good way to show the physical intimacy and trust which a couple have is to rest one's head on the other's lap. Usually, the man does the resting while the woman provides the lap, not only because of anatomical reasons but because the lap-owner is typically of a nurturing nature more associated with femininity. Bonus points if she's feeding him grapes or stroking his hair. In some cases this is done between people who are not necessarily lovers, to comfort someone who is weeping or injured.

Or, in the case of the meme: screw the rules, we'll do anything. Maybe they're tired and just found a good place to rest? Maybe both parties were asleep? Hard to tell. All we know is, someone's head is going to be on another person's lap. Shenanigans will ensue.

"Goodness, lovely Kuwana. What happened?" Now fully awake, and concerned, he reaches behind himself for a moment. His hand finding the tissues, he gives them to her. He then presses a hand to her forehead and then upon the back of her neck.

"You are cold... And this sneeze and your voice... Did you get sick? I should fetch Yagen Toushirou-dono." Illness upon their human bodies should not be taken lightly!

Kuwana takes the offered tissues and turns away a moment to blow her nose, then she looks back over at him, a little frantically.

“N-No...! It’s fine, Tonbo! I just took a cold shower, that’s all... I’m sure I’ll be all warmed up again soon... there’s no need to bother Yagen-san... I’ll be alright...”

And she hides against him in shame. She’s such a bad and stupid wife for being unable to control her passions and for making him worry so! Not to mention the bruises on her right arm (which are thankfully still hidden under her yukata sleeve) from all the falling over she did while he was gone because she was so distracted by worrying about his safety...

"A cold shower?" Why would she need to do that in the middle of the night? (If his condition was fully restored, perhaps he'd catch on. But this time, it goes over his head.)

"All right." He accepts it and strokes her head and back kindly, for she is hiding against him in the way she does when she's embarrassed or ashamed, and he wants to reassure her. "Will you be able to sleep now?"

“... yes, because I was feeling... a little too hot...” And sometimes she’s grateful that husband can be so oblivious!

She snuggles closer at the stroking and nods into his chest. “Yes, I think so. I feel fine now. I’m sorry for waking you.”

And she’ll eventually fall asleep in his arms. Her sleep in mostly peaceful though her dreams do get a little spicy as the night goes on, and when she awakes in the early morning, she’s feeling a little bothered again... orz

She glances up at Tonbo, who seems to still be asleep, and watches him sleep for a while. Then in a moment of boldness, she reaches up to kiss him lightly on the lips...!

He shakes his head, nuzzling his face into her hair. "Mm. It's fine. I am here at your side." Being woken by her is nothing to for her to be sorry for.

With her snugged so close to him, he falls asleep again in no time at all, a peaceful and dreamless rest.

He awakes again at the light and tickling sensation upon his lips. Kuwana being so bold as to kiss him while he is asleep is a little unusual, so it takes him a moment to realize what is happening, but he returns the kiss and opens his eyes slowly.
She is so lovely, like a flower opening towards the sun. His heart is at once warmed by her love for him, and his for her.

"Good morning, lovely," he says in a soft tone, hugging her close. "You are quick to be expressing your love today. Did you sleep better?"

Kuwana smiles against his lips, gladly accepting his return kiss then she presses closer against him when he hugs her.

Her cheeks colour a little and she looks away just a bit when he points out how ~~horny~~ 'quick to be expressing her love' she is. "Good morning, Tonbo. I... well, I have missed you terribly after all since you were gone for so long. And yes, I slept well. Did you have a nice rest too?" ~~Is he ready to be expressing his love too~?~~
