THE CRACK PAIRING MEME

crack pairing

An unusual relationship of any kind of fandom (i.e. books, television shows, movies, ect.) that is unlikely to happen.

Randomly take two characters… they don’t have to know each other, they don’t have to show ANY signs of a relationship, and hook them together. That is a crack pairing.

We all know them. Fandoms have fostered these little gems of shipping since the early days, and now, they can even be serious contenders in even the most hostile of shipping wars. Maybe they're absolutely ridiculous and only "for the lulz." Perhaps they make perfect sense...if you squint. Whatever the case may be, these so-called "crack" pairings are not canon and they're nowhere near as popular in fandom as the big fanon pairings.

Most of the time.

Of course, it's important to note that a lot of the time in RP, pairings are always crack pairings. Especially crossover ships, which canon purists would deride purely for being impossible. Still, in memes, that's less likely to happen because people either stick with canon ships, fanon ships, or close CR because of the lack of opportunities for development that games offer.

Not here. This meme is for ALL your ridiculousness, all your high school fangirl dreams, and just plain not being sorry for your ships. Think these characters would be cute together? Go for it. That character have adorable icons and that all you know about them? Ship it, by all means. Here, the reasons come after the desire.

RULES

Sweet
1. Can't deny it - you've tried to run from your feelings for so long and you can't do it anymore. It's time that you show the object of your affection exactly how you feel. Hopefully you don't lose everything in the process!
2. First time - it's your first time making love together. Is it awkward? Do you go all out or is it spur of the moment?
3. Accidental - you didn't actually mean to confess or kiss. They overheard you or it was an accidental kiss. Maybe you were just really drunk and let it slip!
4. Close as can be - you just want to make love and you've found a spot where it's just you and your partner, however you want it to be.
5. Happily ever after - somehow, you've made it work and you're both happy together, even if it meant you had to run away together.
6. Appreciation - show appreciation for your lover! With words, a look, or whatever your choice way to display affection is!
7. Cuddling - nothing wrong with a day of cuddling...
8. Vacation - you're on a vacation! Wherever you want to be. Road trip, amusement park, Grand Canyon, etc.
9. Family - you're visiting family! Maybe they find out about your relationship, maybe they already know, or however you want to play it out! Maybe you've got news you're starting a family by getting pregnant, adopting, or even getting a new pet.
10. Acceptance - someone who disapproved of your relationship before suddenly approves. How's that feel to you and your lover?
11. Surprise - you've planned a surprise! What is it?
12. Date - first date, second date, hundredth date, etc. What are you doing for it?
13. Reunited → it's been awhile since you've seen each other and nothing can ruin this moment.

Angst
1. Conflict - you've just had a fight with your lover over your relationship or how you handle it. Can you find it in yourselves to forgive each other?
2. Cheated - your lover has cheated on you and you need to confront them about their reasons why and if you can work it out.
3. Found out - you've been found out by someone close to you and they're less than thrilled with your relationship.
4. Disgust - though they play along with it, they're secretly disgusted by the relationship they have with you and it finally comes out into the light.
5. Guilt - one of you is feeling guilty over your relationship, knowing it can never be truly normal or more than a secret.

Comfort
1. Soothing touch - what better way to soothe your lover than to make love to them and show them that no matter what other people say, you're not going anywhere.
2. Fight for you - whoever has found out about your relationship is trying to hurt your lover and you're not going to let them.
3. Won't let you go - you need your lover to realize that you won't let them go, no matter what.
4. Back together - you broke up for a bit, but whatever it is between you two, you can't stay apart.
5. Injured - your lover was injured because of your relationship and it's time to patch them up.

Twisted
1. Forced - you know your partner isn't interested in you like this, but you keep them going along with the relationship no matter what. Coercion, blackmail, whatever it takes.
2. Won't take no - their lips might say no, but you're not listening.
3. Control - you've given them some kind of potion to get your love interest to love you in return and they have to do whatever you say.
4. Recorded - you're not really interested in this forbidden love affair, but you must do it or you'll face some tough consequences.
5. Insult - you're cornered by those who disapprove of your relationship, hearing how filthy you are.

Sexy
1. Rough - you want it rough and hard tonight. Bites, scratches, bruises, etc.
2. Toys - you want to try some props tonight... toys or fuzzy handcuffs.
3. Bondage - more extreme. You're tied up, used, forced to orgasm, whatever.
4. Make up - make up sex is the best sex.
5. Public - you're feeling a little wild so why not a blowjob under the tablecloth in a restaurant or sex in the car?
6. Interrupted - oh yes, oh yes, oh--who the hell is that watching us?!

Ending
1. Left alone - you woke up to your lover trying to slip away in the night because of the strain of the relationship. Do you let them go or try and fight for it?

3. Ending fight - the argument has turned dirty and ends with one of you storming out.
4. Parting ways - both of you have decided to part ways. It's just so much easier.
5. Always love you - though you'll always love each other, maybe it's time the relationship goes back to being strictly platonic. It would be easier... or maybe that's just how one of you feels.

Cricket here would be ideal for a period setting, since his canon is set in the 30s, and he'd be a good baseline human to sympathize with Steve's health struggles because he has leg braces due to rickets.

I also have a MCU flavored Loki, who is...Loki, but I've played him with pre-serum Steve before and it worked surprisingly well.

Or, I can offer Imperator Furiosa, which is about as crack a pairing as it gets, but I can AU her into the MCU setting, or play her as a fish out of water.

It's the back room of a bar. It seems, to Neal, to be the dumbest possible place for a clandestine government meeting, but apparently the CIA didn't want to have the meeting in their headquarters - something about a convicted thief and forger being let lose in a CIA building apparently didn't sit right with them (never mind that he'd never been convicted of thievery). He's a little offended.

He's also a little excited because, come on, it's not every day you get to be part of a joint operation with the CIA.

So he lounges casually in a chair in the back room, by himself (though he knew there was no way Peter wasn't close by), waiting for the CIA contact to arrive and explain what this was actually all about.

Neal doesn’t have to wait long before he’s joined by a stranger, the CIA operative he’d be working with. “Neal.” It’s not said as a question as one might when first meeting someone, but as a statement; he knows who he is speaking with. He sat down, bringing a beer for each of them in offering as he did so. “I’m special agent Jackson Grayson, I’ll be the one working with you directly on this operation.” He stated, seemingly not caring about stating that information at a normal volume. While they weren’t at CIA headquarters, everyone inside the bar was an agent – something Jax and now probably Neal too was well aware of.

He placed a file on the table and slid it across to his partner. “You should find detailed information and instructions inside. Given the importance of the success of this mission, we’re willing to overlook your… involvement in prior criminal activity.”

As Jax spoke, he sized Neal up. He’d of course seen a picture or two of him prior to this meeting, but in person was a lot different. Tall, handsome, well-dressed, nice hair. He took a drink of his beer once he’d finished saying his piece, allowing Neal to at least glance over the file in front of him and react to all he’d had to say thus far. Like the rest of the agents in the bar, Jax was dressed the part, casual; jeans, t-shirt, jacket, ball-cap, and sneakers.

"Alleged involvement." Neal grins cheekily - he knows absolutely nobody believes him, they all know he did far more than just the bond forgery he was convicted of, but since they couldn't prove any of his other crimes, he gets to throw out his allegeds and hypotheticals.

"It's nice to meet you Agent Grayson," he comments, pulling the file towards himself and opening it up to take a look. He looks as though he's perusing the contents, but he's actually taking a moment to get a look at Jax, studying him out the corner of his eye. He certainly doesn't look like a CIA agent, but then that's probably what makes him good at his job, the same way Neil never looks like he's affiliated with the FBI.

"Well this all seems very interesting," he comments, placing the file back down on the table with another winning smile "I'm in."

Not that he actually has a choice, he's on loan from the FBI and under orders to work this case, but he can pretend.

"Good." That was painless, he takes a drink of his beer. "A little surprised, but good." he adds as he sets the beer down. "No questions, objections, ...anything?" He took the file back and stored it away. Jax studied the facial cues of the man sitting opposite of him; he had been since he sat down, and he definitely felt Neal's eyes scan over him. That wasn't a big deal, he'd done the same to him after all, and honestly he'd have been far more suspect of Neal had the FBI affiliate not given him a once over.

Another drink of beer, and a casual glance over at the nearby pool table as two guys start a game. "But, if you're in, I'm taking that to mean that you can and will succeed in the mission."

"Oh I didn't say I didn't have questions," or objections, for that matter, but he'd already made them and they'd already fallen on deaf ears, so it seemed pointless to repeat them now "but I can do what you're asking for."

It's not false bravado, or at least it doesn't come across that way, just a solid confidence that he has the skills they're looking for - which he does - and that he can pull off the mission.

"And you'll be my partner for this operation, I take it?"

Kitty hadn't been there but the texts from Chas had been enough to paint a picture that she knew she was grateful not to have seen. The X-Men had had their own battles to fight and she'd done her part, doing her best not to be distracted by the knowledge that John was possessed and dying.

The trip to the safehouse felt like forever and when she finally arrives, she doesn't bother with any formalities, phasing right on in, dropping her bag in the door way and stomping down the stairs.

"John Constantine, you absolute idiot! I'm going to kill you!"

Oh, the bloody Suits. If it wasn't the League then its the Mutant Brigade, and John really doesn't care much either way for the organizations. He tends to stay out of the business of the Suits and expects the same vice versa. Unless for some reason they need the occult detective to explain how the world really is to them.

Remind him again how he got wrapped up in Kitty Pryde?

"You know, I went through a lot of trouble to keep those wards in place." John bristles, sunken into the couch, looking pale and out of it still. He hasn't gotten all his strength back.

Remind him to stab Chas with a screwdriver later for telling her already.

"Haven't you got the world to save?"

"You should have thought about that before bringing me in." It wasn't that she was stronger than the wards but the perk of her ability meant it was easy enough for her to just pass through them.

Stopping in front of him, Kitty crosses her arms across her chest and frowns down at him. "We finished that. But I should have been here, helping you." Kneeling down, Kitty leans into John's space easily, a hand cupping John's cheek. "Are you okay?"

"Oh, right. My fault."

John looks up at her with raised eyebrows. Oh, she can piss and moan all she wants. It won't change what he's done or the absolute shit he feels after it. Still, Kitty is Kitty and she's got to make her point known to the world and all that. Then dote on him like he's some child.

Chas doesn't mind having the second hand at it though.

"You shouldn't have. Not your scene, and definitely not your type of work. You've got the fellow Suits to take care of." John sighs and leans his head back against the couch. "Peachy keen, me. Like always."

“It doesn’t have to be my scene for me to care. Especially when you’re involved.” Kitty moves to sit on the couch beside him, one knee resting on John’s thigh.

“You’re a shitty liar, John Constantine.” Mostly because it was really obvious that John wasn’t okay. “Chas filled me in, John. I know what happened so there’s no point pretending it wasn’t a really shit time.”

"Here I thought I had perfected the art." He replied with a thick layer of sarcasm. He glanced at her knee and sighed, head rolling to rest on the couch in the opposite direction. "Shit time. I'm getting over it though, luv. Nothing to worry about."

Though he might need to get Chas back for spilling details behind his back.

"Well, I'm going to worry and you can't stop me, John. So you may as well just suck it up and deal with it." He should know her better than that, by now. Except maybe he'd stubbornly refused to. Who knew when it came to John Constantine.

Maybe Chas. But even that was iffy.

"Can I do anything?"

"Stop being a mother hen and scolding me?" John gave her a quick annoyed smirk. That was Hail Mary, because he knew that she wouldn't. Kitty an Chas were a dynamic duo in the pact of 'Keep John Constantine Alive' campaign. "Do I ever just suck it up and deal with things, Kitty?"

No.

"Okay, I'll stop scolding you." It's as much of a compromise as he's going to get out of her because "mother hen" may as well be Katherine Pryde's middle name with how innate it was in her to do it. "No. But maybe it won't kill you to do it this time?

"John, you let a demon in and it tried to kill you to take over. I care about you and I'm going to worry about you."

He'd take the compromise for now. It was better than nothing.

John sighed and sunk further into the old couch. He stared at the ceiling. Part of him felt... not hollow, but, certainly like there was a bit of him missing. Maybe a bit of his soul, his energy, his life. That prick of a demon took something when Anne-Marie banished him. He felt it.

Not that he felt that it was worth bringing it up. It was easy enough just to say he was exhausted and laugh the worry away while it ate inside him.

"Last I checked? That's what demons do. Nasty bastards who are jealous they never got a body." John said simply, but his tone conveyed his exhaustion and just how unsettled by it all he was. "Loads of things try to kill me. That bastard just got a bit closer than they normally do."

Sighing softly, Kitty reaches out to brush a hand gently over his hair, offering comfort he'd never ask for and say he didn't want. He won't talk about it, not if he doesn't want to and she's learned that pushing will get her nowhere.

But letting it go isn't in her nature, so this odd compromise is where they'll sit until he blows up at her or falls asleep and makes it easier for her to worry.

"Too close." Far too close from what Chas had said. "Have you eaten? I can't cook anything but I know a guy who'd probably go get you something." A beat. "It's Chas. I haven't told anyone about this place."

John shot her a look at the touch, but, says nothing about it. Brushing her off would just encourage the notion. Instead, he pushed himself further into the couch. Sleep might not be that bad of an option, but, he knows what nightmares are going to come because of it.

"Chas made something before he left to take Anne-Marie to the airport or, drive her. Whatever they are doing." He didn't particularly want to know if they were going to keep in contact.

Anne-Marie made it clear she still cared for John, but, was far too angry still about Newcastle to trust him ever again. Fair, he thought. It still hurt like a son of a bitch.

The urge to ask if he actually ate it is there but she doesn't push any further lest she piss him off and cause him to shut down even further. Kitty wishes Chas was still here to ease some of the tension or guide her in how to navigate John while he was like this.

"Is there anything I can do?"

Was there anything she could do? It was a fair question. He wasn't sure. Most days he wasn't even sure what do with himself - let alone know what to have someone else do with him. John looked up at the ceiling with his lower lip sticking out.

Honestly? He had no idea.

Instead, he simply slumped to the side to rest his head in her lap. He wasn't sure if it would do anything other than calm her down, but, maybe that'd be enough for the both of them.

Kitty's hand immediately goes to John's hair and she starts brushing her fingers through it, scratching gently at his scalp and trying to offer comfort in the only way she knows how to.

She wishes she could do more to help him but if he can't tell her what he needs, then this will have to do and she'll happily do it. Leaning forward, she presses a kiss to his temple.

Shit. Kitty just--she really knew how to get under his skin in any way, didn't she? He's always been a a sucker for a woman's hand in his hair.

"And how long to plan on staying this time, huh?"

"I can stay as long as you want me to." As long as he needed. Kitty hadn't told the other X-Men what had happened to John -it wasn't their business- but she'd made it clear that she didn't know when she'd be back.

Kitty just kept scratching her fingers through his hair, gently massaging his scalp in an alternating patterns.

"Oh, come of fit. You'll be staying as long as you want to. We both know that."

A bad thing? Maybe not, but, John isn't also one to beat around the bush. Not after what happened.

"Before you go back and do your superhero gig anyways. Do you really like being part of the suits?"

"Are you complaining?" Whether it was what he wanted or what she wanted, it meant she was here and he wasn't alone and she could see with her own two eyes that he was alright. Well, as alright as John Constantine ever was.

"I like helping people. I was given these powers for a reason, I want to use them for good."

"I thought I always complained." John replied back. It was a mix of playfulness and out right being rude. The usual mix coming from him. "But, no, I want to know if you really feel like you're where you want to be. Cutting it out with the Suits, off being a hero."
