The Matchmaker

Have you ever seen a person so beautiful you started crying? Because they'd be perfect for someone you know?
Okay, maybe you didn't cry. But you might have a friend, family, or even a rival who you feel could use some lovin'. Maybe they sought you out for help, or maybe they already know each other and just need a bit of a push to get together. Or maybe, despite all your efforts to try get two different people together, you fell in love with the person you're trying to hook up your buddy with. Congratulations, you played yourself.
No matter the situation and your reasons for doing so, you have the job of a matchmaker.
--
1. Top-level with your character name, canon, preferences. You can include info on why your character could use companionship, how eager they are in looking, or if you don't mind switching roles. This is optional, but preferred.
2. Taggers would generally be the matchmakers in this equation, but feel free to switch it around and have them ask for help.
3. Profit!

I LIED now i can use the sleep in peace
He should have gone home hours ago. His shift ended a good half hour before it was time for the guy and his band to get up the stage so there was really no need for him to linger like he did. He had his way out, his golden ticket to a peaceful, oblivious weekend... But at the end of the day he's really just too stupid for his own good. ]
Kusakabe.
[ He could've told him no. He could've gone out of his way to tell him just how juvenile and ridiculous he was being by acting so shy over such a simple thing, nevermind the knots that had been plaguing him for months now, because at least Rei has the decency of swallowing his feelings like an adult instead of sending notes like a fucking teenager.
He tosses his hair, handing the blond an envelope with what he prays to God is a friendly enough face (it isn't) (it's just his face) and at the end of the day he knows he's no better, not really.
He's playing along, after all. ]
My friend-- the guy that usually ushers you lot in. I'm supposed to wait for a reply so hurry up and read it, will you?
:'> yes have the sleep.
The blond, for what it's worth, greets Reimaru easily.]
Mayama-san.
[His head tilts at the note, and for a moment wonders if it's an invoice, or maybe even a small payout, some small gesture from the place's owner. But then Reimaru speaks up again and...huh. Well, ok. It would be rude not to read it at the very least, right? But maybe not here in front of other people.
He does at least slide his fingers under the flap and slip the top of the note out of its envelope, dark eyes skimming across the initial missive, the slightly roundabout way that the guy- Moriyama, he remembers- confesses. Getting confession letters from guys isn't nearly as common for him as little heart-stamped letters from blushing girls, but he can't say he's bothered. It means he has a universal appeal. It's flattering.
That doesn't seem to apply to Reimaru though, if the disgruntled look on his face is anything to judge by.]
You don't have to pass along messages. I can talk to him.
[He thinks at least he can save the guy some frustration over being the go-between at least.]

If only he didn't had Moriyama's stupid, desperate face splattered all over his brain. ]
Just do what you're told, will you? If I got asked to bother like this it was for a reason.
[ Namely his own bleeding heart, despite all his protest and contrarian declarations. After all, he gets it. The guy is... Of course Moriyama would for for someone who is so...
...
He crosses his arms, looking away. ]
I'll wait. Just make sure to read and answer properly.

Reimaru's fluster reads as genuine frustration, but there's something else there, too. He doesn't really know how to read it, and calling him out doesn't seem right. Besides, he's pretty sure it would just be flat-out denied if he said anything anyway.
So he calls out over the milling crowd to let Tani know that he would meet up with him later, then fishes in his bag for a pencil and a clean sheet of paper, settling down at a nearby table to write a note back.
It's tucked into the envelope and handed back to his would-be messenger. A simple offer to meet and talk with Moriyama and see if they were at all compatible. He kind of doubts it, but people could surprise him. He'd spent a few years in high school absolutely in love with a quiet, sullen guy in his same class, after all. This couldn't be all that different.]
Here. I let him know where I would be later, so he can come find me himself. Sorry you have to be the go-between.

It's fine. Stop apologizing.
[ He swallows, tucking the envelope inside his back pocket; it's hard to look at the boy when he's in front of him like this. He supposes he isn't at that different from Moriyama, when all it's said and done.
Not that it matters now.
Mumbling a quick goodbye he turns away, his steps quick and tense and... And see, he should just go, but-- ]
... Kusakabe.
[ "Don't mess this up". "Take good care of my friend". "He's a good guy, just a bit clumsy". ]
Warm up your voice. Today's performance was sloppy.
[ And he's gone. And yeah, see? At the end of the day, he's way worse than Mori could ever be for sure. ]

Nori sang most of the time anyway.
[He shrugs a shoulder at that, writing it all off as expectations he shouldn't have. The words trail off as Rei disappears, and he packs up the last of his belongings and makes his way out to the bike parked in the side lot. He's got a cigarette, about to light it when Tani finally comes to see what the holdup was. He explains that he had to respond to a letter with no more detail than that, hoping to spare and potential embarrassment.
By the time they start to head home he gets it in his mind to try and text Rei and see if they're on the lineup any time soon again. Best to have an idea of how soon he should expect to see Moriyama and have to actually talk to him face to face. What if this was awkward? It was bound to be, after the letter fuss.]

It takes him a long minute to answer him back, standing outside the convenience store, his face blushing hard.
Should he greet him away? Make some funny, charming remark? Why did he text him now anyway? But maybe it's good. Not having to look at him... ]
Your memory sucks.
[ Dummy he wants to add, but that would be... Too cutesy, right? That's not... the sort of think one says. Right?? ]
It's really, really bad.
no subject
yeah I know, that's why I'm asking you
if you send the schedule to me then I can't forget it anymore right?
[That's logical, he thinks. If he has a reminder that he can look at when he forgets, then he won't have to ask again. Rei seems annoyed with him for asking in the first place, anyway.]
no subject
There'll be... Absolutely no reason for him to text him anything. ]
Well... You can have it.
[ Falling on his old, beaten up coach, his face alight with his phone's glare. ]
After your date, that is.
[ Playing silly games, because no one's looking at him. Because no one will ever know the hopeless face he makes. ]
So you better be on your best behavior, mister leading man ♥

[He says it to himself under his breath. Were they already considering it a date when he just wanted to meet and talk to his distant admirer?
Or...it was just Rei thinking that. And getting defensive.
Huh.
That heart could be teasing. But it could be something else.]
I promise I won't give him any reason to review me poorly.
sorrt about the delay! happy halloween fam
[ It's a good thing. That mousy idiot needs someone dependable.
It's a good thing, so... he really has no right to feel as annoyed as he does. How stupid. Frowning and staring at the screen like a fool as his mind comes up with all sorts of shitty, embarrassing lines. Hopeless. Stupid and completely, absolutely hopeless. ]
... Well, have fun.
happy halloween!
Then he goes ahead and does so anyway.]
Should I dress up or anything?
He is your friend, after all.
Do you know what would be ok?
[But is he actually Rei's friend? He'd just assumed, but maybe not...]
no subject
Anything's fine!?
[ Idiot. Stupid. He groans into the pillow, fighting against the urge to throw his phone. Why must he ask him? No... Why did he even accept to intervene in the first place? Stupid, stupid. ]
...
Just be yourself. That's what he likes, so just...
Go with what's natural.

Looks-wise, the guy is pretty plain. He's nice, though, and nice...well. It probably deserves someone better than him.
Sometimes he's glad he doesn't have much of an ego. He hates to think what might be going through his head right now if he did.
He leaves Rei to his thoughts for the rest of the night at least, letting him stew and grumble and regret trying to be a good friend. In the morning, though, at the same time as Moriyama sends a nervous text of his own, Kusakabe sends a simple going now message.]
