The Dragon's Bride

Flames, then ash. Your village will be left with little else should the dragon that plagues the countryside not get his demanded sacrifice...if you're lucky. Your good fortune turns south, the bones of your neighbors (or whatever else remains of them) litter a new charred graveyard that was once a town. So, the necessary offers must be made. At least that's the hope. The alternative would be too awful to contemplate. In a last-ditch effort to save those you love — or against your will, as these things tend to go with forcibly created martyrs — you have been hoisted onto the pyre, waiting for the dragon to fly off with you. What terrors race through your mind as your doom impends? How you'll end up in a beast's belly, no doubt. Except, you must consider this: there are worst fates than being a dragon's next meal. A monster that covets you as its treasure...a new type of danger unfurls its wings. You've become a dragon's bride. But could such an infernal creature ever learn to know honest, unselfish affection? Is it possible to be more than a "spouse?" A mere treasure? Perhaps, you could learn to be a dragon's love. HOW TO PLAY ✗ Comment with your character, roles ("dragon" or "bride") prefs, etc. ✗ Y'all know how this goes. Approach "dragon" as a stand-in. The monster mash could be elves, orcs, goblins, werewolves, demons, dwarves, fey, purple people eaters, what have you. Of course, actual dragon and shifters folks are welcome, too! And don't think that you have to make your boring human a boring ol' human. Consider this the monster/supernatural being/cryptid/creature AU of your dreams! ✗ Second verse, same as the first, "bride" registers as gender-neutral 'round these parts. That word choice just sounds a touch more poetic. ✗ Reply to others.

[A thirty-something pacifistic magus from a noble/divine lineage with a clever mind but a scholar's physique.

As a "bride," he will be resentful and begrudging- but willing. Likely a sacrifice by design as a means of removing him from the political sphere. No matter what airs he puts on of nobly accepting this duty for his people, he will loathe the necessity of it and the game that put him there. Once the question of being eaten was resolved, he wouldn't be able to help his curiosity in studying his dragon.

As a dragon, whatever catastrophe that's been attributed to him is likely not of his making and is instead one of natural causes (or another's hand.) This "mercy" would not out be of compassion but apathy. He would likely view mortals as foolish and violent- a species that cannot and should not be saved. While he would accept a bride from curiosity, he would only have a passing interest in them. Proving his beliefs wrong would gain his interest and eventual affection but there would be some heavy philosophical debate involved.]

[...I want. :V Either the regular or shape-shifting aspect of this sounds really cool, and on my end it would be pretty easy plug Galahad into the role of someone being willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of His People. I could roll with knight or druid, too, for different flavors of dude with different motivations and feelings about the entire idea of a dragon and the necessity of 'sacrificing' someone to it. (Knight is more disconnected from magic and would see dragon as a scourge, and druid would be a bit more worldly and see him as an aspect of nature/magics his people have to deal with for the greater good.)

[ Well... this is not how Tobias expected his life to go. But if ever there were a better way to get out from under the thumb of a mother who was more concerned with keeping her son hidden from the world than doing her job as ruler, he doesn't know it. As such, he's lounging patiently with a book of poetry in his hands when his dragon arrives, propped up against the wooden pole he was supposed to be tied to. There is a small bit of rope beside him in case the dragon wants it, though. ]
