5. Freakshow: Do they really have a bearded lady in that tent? It's time to find out. Buy a ticket and see the greatest oddities the world has to offer.

6. Corn Maze: Yes, yes, all corn is maize, but this cornfield, bereft of its ears and gone golden and whispery, has been cut into the form of a labyrinth, complete with seasonal decorations and perhaps even actors ready to scare those who enter.

7. Hall of Mirrors: You and your partner entered, thinking it would be easy to get out again, but dead ends abound in this wacky mirror-maze, and each mirror seems to show a more and more distorted image of each of you.

8. Fortune Teller: Whether one of the creepy machines or the even creepier women dressed up in a culturally insensitive costume, you cross someone's palms with silver and get your future told. Will it be happiness forever with your partner, or will ill tidings be bound your way?

[So initially, Danny had never planned on Rachel going somewhere other than the location of her usual meetings with him, even for fun outings. But then he had noticed her staring out one of the window of where they were having a therapy session, in the direction of the town, and sees that the yearly lights and banners up celebrating the local carnival. An event that Danny had never actually been to himself and had previously no desire to do so given that going to such places alone is just ridiculous, but Rachel had stared at the sight for a beat longer than he had expected her to.

... Did she want to go to such a thing? It wasn't hard to imagine that it would be the sort of thing a normal kid would want to go to, but then, Rachel wasn't a normal kid. And even if she did have normal kid desires about going, she definitely isn't going to go with her dead parents. But the idea of taking her himself ends up lingering, long enough that Danny decides that if enough precautions are in place, he could take her and make sure they got back before anyone noticed.

So he takes her by the hand a few days later while the festivities are still in swing, and says that he's taking her outside for a little while. Initially, she had seemed confused by why Doctor Danny wanted to go outside, but otherwise had allowed him to drag her along.

So here they were, and while Danny is at least not being too weird and clingy by saying they should hold hands or something the entire time they're here so they don't get separated, he is definitely not letting her out of his sights as they walk here. Both of them dressed casually and not enough to stand out as doctor and patient, and okay, maybe he discreetly stole one of Cathy's tracking devices to hide on Rachel in case she somehow does get too far from him, but otherwise Danny appears to be smiling and carefree about their trip out here.]

Skipping the haunted corn maze ((it was still to early to get the bajabbers scared out of her)) Dolly was weighing her options when the delicious scent of funnel cake practically dragged her over to the tent, as she paid for the food and sat down to enjoy it ((and totally not brood over being alone here...nope, not at all...)).

"Are you sure you want to do this...with me?" Usually the stoic and smart scientist, Sam looked at the glittery fall scene with some trepidation. This seemed more like that Australian asshole's goals, even if Raleigh had invited him and not Hansen. Raleigh usually liked to keep their time between just the two of them, and while Sam knew how rare it was to have a carnival at your port, there would be other gunners around.

At the very least, there would be people that neither of them knew who worked on the jaegers present. But Sam wasn't against it, lured in by the lights and the smell of caramel corn that he had just the vaguest memory of. He hoped Raleigh would say yes, but that meant more to him than the popcorn or the fearsome rides he knew the pilot would force him to get on in no time flat.

So yeah, his wilder days were gone by. Had left him behind in the dust with a bad leg and an even less stable place sitting on the fae court, thanks to a recent change in power.

It was great always having to watch your back and front and probably either side all at the same time. Caelan honestly regretted those days where he missed his youth and the excitement that had gone with it prior to his injury, because the new brand of excitement sucked as Holly would have eloquently put it.

Which brought his line of thought to where he was now, of course. Holly. The kid from that weird ass dream he’d had eras ago about another world. The kid and world that he’d been so sure didn’t actually exist, born of too much whisky after that very successful museum heist. The memory of it all had been foggy at best anyway, and he’d largely forgotten it until just this week when he’d been sent to America to deal with a mess between a bunch of young fae that had stepped on the toes of some sort of very powerful vampire crime family.

The Genovese family were not to be trifled with, and they already had werewolves to deal with... So chances were, they would stamp out a few silly young fae before they became much more of a problem.

Thus, Caelan had been sent to try to prevent that and any further unpleasantness. The fae and vampires generally stayed out of one another’s way. Especially the seelie court, he couldn’t speak for the unseelie. They weren’t his problem.

That was the official story, anyway. Caelan was pretty sure the court didn’t give a toss what happened with these little idiots that had gotten themselves in trouble. No, he had a sneaking suspicion they expected his usual attitude and proclivity for making dramatic statements to offend the head of the Genovese family so they’d do the Court’s dirt work for them and have him disappeared or whatever it was they did.

What? It had been almost two months since anyone tried anything with him, it made sense.

What Caelan hadn’t expected, however, was to have a very interesting meeting on top of meeting Mr. Giovanni Genovese. No, his daughter had been the real shocker. It had been a complete struggle to keep his expression neutral, to react like a normal person would when they met a strange kid. Like he hadn’t suddenly realized who she was, who Giovanni was, and what point in time he’d walked into.

She was so damned small...

Part of Caelan was overjoyed to have found the kid again, they had agreed that he’d visit America one day to catch up with her if they’d ever gone home. The other part, the part that he wished he could ignore, was distressed. He’d arrived on scene far too early for a reunion... She was too young to know him, and worse still... He had a bad feeling he knew what the next few years would hold for the kid.

Fuck...

His best bet would have been to wrap up business, let Giovanni do whatever he wanted with the damned sunfish brained fae that had gotten in too deep and leave.

But then Holly had taken a shine to him, and somehow... Well the three of them were now wandering around a carnival. How the bleedin’ hell did I let this happen? He mused to himself, glancing at the group occasionally.

What was worse? He was getting into it... Joking and amusing Holly was just as much fun as it was back in the day. It was hard to not slip back into the old mindset... Giovanni was an interesting fellow, and Caelan liked the man. It was so damn obvious where Holly got most of her mannerisms from. Giovanni also seemed to have decided not to kill him right now or anything, so... Bonus points? He was interesting, impressive, and definitely a family oriented person if today’s outing were anything to go by. He could count on one hand how many members of the court would have given in to their kids wishes to go to the fair with some random stranger that was there for serious reasons of all things.

His leg was going to kill him later, moving along at a pace brisk enough to keep up with the kid and her father in an attempt to not look like the geriatric some people in current company used to call him. Ah well, a soak in the tub as a seal would do wonders for it.

“So what’s plan Mr. Genovese? Plan to impress the little lady by taking the games by storm or start by conquering the fancy rides ya got here?” He’s not going to ask about the food, if there’s one thing he can say about his insiders knowledge, he at least wouldn’t ask the really dumb questions.
