Vampires have nests. But none of those have connections that can compare to the bond of a werewolf pack. You should know. You're part of one, either born a werewolf or turned. For humans, blood is thicker than water; for wolves, the pack is to the bone. Of course, with humans, romantic relationships can complicate closeness of other sorts. That's not the case with werewolf pairings, as they tend to grow out of natural pack dynamics and are viewed as just another facet of life. The only difference is that werewolves tend to treat relationships, even potential would-be-mates, with extreme seriousness. Wolves aren't exactly welcome in the armed forces but they have their uses. Against other wolves for example. Frank spent nearly ten years away from home. They kept to themselves, going where command wanted them, doing whatever dirty job the humans were too good or too useless for.

When he finally comes home, everything feels foreign. Family feels foreign. They try, Frank, Maria and the kids. They try so hard but it all ends in blood and tears and Frank's death wish almost comes true. Almost. He's never been good at giving in or giving up. So he turns into a shadow, a roaming nightmare, the kind humans don't want near their them.

Cities are safer for packless wolves. Everybody is a loner in the grand canyons made of steel, concrete, glass, and there is enough space for them. If there is fighting, it happens in the dark away from prying human eyes.

Frank has been around long enough that nobody in their right mind would dare intrude intentionally. Normally he doesn't pay much attention to foreign wolf scents. They usually disappear after a few days, but this new scent lingers for days and days. It's familiar and not at the same time which makes it hard to tell if it's friend or foe. Then again Frank's brain isn't what it used to be, not after the head injury. Since there's no strain of hostility, he trails after the scent, trying to find the wolf it belongs to.

It's not at all what he expected to be. Of all the things, he hadn't expected to find a ghost.

"Barnes?" They'd served overseas together until their white wolf disappeared one day. Since it'd been just a wolf nobody had tried to find him and the wolves had been forbidden from trying to look for Bucky.

"Kid, is that you?" They'd been pack once or as close as you could get given the circumstances so Frank may be alert but he isn't hostile even though he has no idea if this really is the Barnes he used to know.

[Being a catboy attending a university filled to the brim with humans and vampires has been quite the experience for G’raha Tia, but he can’t say that he regrets his decision to enroll in the slightest. Sharlayan University is the most prestigious college in the country, and he’d worked hard to keep his grades up all throughout high school in order to have a chance at being accepted into its ranks. The day his acceptance letter had come in the mail had honestly been the happiest day of his life, and he’d quickly moved into the dorms to start a brand new and exciting chapter in his life with plenty of hope in his heart. Hope that he would succeed and make all of his dreams come true...the academic ones, anyway.

But of course things aren’t all sunshine and roses at the academy, something that G’raha is quick to realize after a couple of months of living on campus. The dorms are nice enough, but the drop rate of students who simply can’t afford the tuition each semester is incredibly high, and G’raha counts himself lucky that he was able to get a scholarship to cover his own expenses. Most of them, anyway. He still has to work to feed himself, but he quite enjoys his job at the local library, so it isn’t the terrible chore that some part-time jobs can be. In fact he looks forward to it each day that he’s scheduled, because he’s an unapologetic nerd, and being surrounded by musty old tomes is his idea of a good time.

Being expensive isn’t the only issue the university has, however. The lack of diversity among the student population is definitely noticeable, and it got G’raha curious enough to look into the university’s past graduating classes to see if perhaps this year was simply an anomaly. Unfortunately what he found pointed to a much more disheartening conclusion. Namely that no werewolves have ever been accepted into the academy, and that the number of students that have graduated that weren’t either humans or vampires is also abysmally low. Normally most people might just shrug and move on, but as someone who grew up in a diverse community and has seen the impact discrimination has had on werewolves in particular G’raha simply can’t sit idly by and enjoy the privilege of being a race that’s looked upon favorably by the higher-ups.

That’s what prompts him to do his research into how he can help bring awareness to such an issue, and he decides to start at the top and discuss things with the dean of the academy, an elderly vampire with a clear disinterest in what he has to say. There are no rules explicitly forbidding werewolves to apply, and he insists that everyone has an equal opportunity to be accepted as a student. Lies, obviously, but unfortunately G’raha has no proof of any staff purposely denying werewolves acceptance into the academy based on race. And so he’s forced to try something else, namely standing out in front of the student business center and handing out fliers to try and bring awareness to the issue. Perhaps if more students speak up about the problem the staff will be forced to take it seriously...

...except that G’raha seems to be the only student who cares, and his attempts to bring awareness sadly don’t succeed. The garbage cans are filled to the brim with his discarded fliers, and he begins to wonder if he can truly accomplish his goal. He’s not one to give up easily though, and after hearing rumors of an organization dedicated to ensuring the rights of werewolves and other races that often endure discrimination in the city and beyond G’raha takes it upon himself to call them up and make an appointment to meet and talk about his options.

And so he finds himself outside of the building the Scions (a good name, he thinks) currently operate out of a bit early, the trip from the university to this particular part of the city not overly long but still far enough that he’d left early to give himself plenty of time to get there before his appointment. It wasn’t too difficult to find, and now all that’s left is to go inside and navigate his way to their office...something that, strangely enough, gives him butterflies. This is his last chance to really make a difference on behalf of werewolves everywhere, and he can only hope that things go smoothly.

When he arrives he’s greeted by a tiny, bubbly receptionist by the name of Tataru, and she seems more than happy to direct him to where he needs to go. The head of the organization, Minfilia, seems pleased to meet him, and she tells him a bit about the Scions and their mission before instructing him to return to the lobby and wait while she informs their resident werewolf that he has a visitor. G’raha is a bit perplexed by this, because hadn’t they been expecting him? And he swears that Minfilia looks almost a little amused when she mentions the werewolf he’s going to meet, but why...? Hmm...it’s a mystery...

But anyway, there’s nothing for G’raha to do but wait, and so he thanks Minfilia before taking a seat in the lobby, hoping that this will all work out in the end. He tries to focus on browsing an article on his phone instead of his nerves, ears perking up a bit when he hears girlish giggling from one of the other rooms. Hmm...he wonders what that could possibly be about...hopefully he’s actually going to be taken seriously for once...]
