the i n s o m n i a meme

It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they?

01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet.
02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops.
03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it.
04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them...
05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort.
06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help?
07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on.
08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them.
09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you.
10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario.

she’d been to his house a ton of times before, had even spent entire afternoons here: studying, talking, and laughing… but, somehow, things were entirely different at night. there were way too many things her imagination could twist into monsters, and way too many times she tensed because his old house kept groaning.
it all kept bringing her thoughts back to mementos, to the times they’d been chased and attacked from the depths of that dark, creepy place.

“ hey, akira …? “ ann peeks out from the covers and around the room, waiting to see if he’d stir. he doesn’t seem to though, and there’s a pause filled only by the snoring of her friends, and the sigh of the wind outside.

“ akira – “ she slips out of the bed and over to the couch where he’s sleeping, careful not to wake morgana. there's a brief moment where she hesitates to shake him, since part of this had been her fault, with her insistence on watching horror movies. it was totally wrong of her to disturb him like this, of course – and she feels bad -- but she can't resist wanting to try.

if he doesn't wake, then it's whatever, though. she’ll have to just spend the rest of the night up on her phone.

cities like tokyo carry within them a certain vibe, a particular energy after dark that certain areas just can't reach. out here in the country everything feels magnified, no matter how whisper-quiet it is, and the overall size of the kurusu house doesn't help matters any.

but it's good for hosting akira's group of friends whenever they have the free time blow in. given the season, it did indeed seem like the perfect night to fire up the grainiest of movies on his parents' old tape deck, insisting it added to the authenticity of the experience. he's ready plenty of books on films and the industry surrounding them, so of course he'd know. never mind morgana's arguments of how totally fake it all looked—he's a cat, what does he know—or yusuke's disdain at the lack of aesthetics. it's all been a good time nonetheless, and with a lionheart like akira's he doesn't think twice about it when everyone's bedded down for the night.

makoto's snoring might, be in fact, be the scariest thing in the room, since he doesn't have the heart to either rouse her or point it out to her after the fact. some things are best left alone, even now, when the former phantom thieves of hearts are crawling that much closer towards adulthood and independence.

so he doesn't expect a visitor to the couch, an unfortunate end result of losing the bet for where everyone was sleeping tonight. how was akira to know futaba had a three of spades up her sleeve? he's dozing away, neither fully awake nor lost to unconsciousness just yet, but it takes a moment to recognize what's going on. that this isn't morgana doing his usual little song and dance at bedtime, kneading adopt his chest, claws pricking through his old bedclothes he can't bring himself to let go of, despite starting to outgrow some of it.

"...?" yeah, this is no cat's doing. it's ann's, if he's making the shape out in the dark correctly, her half-hushed voice. lacking the right control over it is typical ann, though it's hardly his concern if she wakes anyone else up.

"'s it morning...?" of course not, but he knows no other reason of what would bring her over here like this. not unless ryuji's smacked someone in his sleep again. there are reasons why none of the girls choose the same side as he does anymore, and this is one of them.
