[ Evangeline, mostly called Eve, is an albino crow. She perches on high places, enjoys mimicking the voices of others, and will bring gifts and trinkets of shiny things to other members of the Old Guard. They're also the only people allowed to touch her.

could be fun to do something with canonmates where they noticed Eve getting more sickly looking as Booker spiraled into depression and they were able to drag him out of it and thus no betrayal. ]

They'd been watching for a while now as their newest member and his daemon seemed to just...spiral. There was little they could do at first, but Andy had been watching Eve preen obsessively for an hour now, and enough was enough.

"Come here, Eve," Andy murmured, offering her hand to the bird to coax her on; Zan was already climbing down to her arm, tongue flickering out to reassure the bird. They'd drag Booker out to talk to him and see what was going on. "Sebastien! Come out here," she called.

[ Dzantemir, usually goes by Zan, is a Caucasus viper. Usually worn around Andy's neck and shoulders, but can be quite touchy among the Old Guard. ]

That went well.

( Which is to say: it went to shit. It isn't even close to the worst mission they've been on - at least they were able to retrieve some of the hostages - but every loss of human life is keenly felt. There's no better way for daemons to be snuffed out of existence; they disappear just the same.

Joe tears at his bloody vest the second the door is locked behind him, eager to be rid of it, a stony expression on his face. Neppi, on the other hand, is a book with the spine cracked open. She doesn't bother with the quips as she steps over to Andy and Zan, a whine low in her throat.

Joe sighs, bone-deep exhaustion. ) Give them a minute, Nep. ( Of course, he feels that need just as keenly as Zeineb does. Neppi is never able to sleep until she's thoroughly checked every teammate and their daemons, and she's already pushing her bloody snout into the palm of Andy's hand. )

Nicolo di Genova | The Old Guard

[Diodoro, known by the Guard as Dio, is a grey rabbit. He is also male, which is a little rare. He only lets himself be touched by the other members of the Guard, and will often hop up into Joe's lap for a nap.]

It was not the first time--nor even the hundredth--that Andy had slept in the same bed with any of the others: with so much time around each other, boundaries were practically erased between them, even to the point of being touched by and touching each other's daemons. So it shouldn't have come as a surprise when she blinked awake beside Nicky, facedown and lying with one arm acros his chest, the other tucked under the pillow beneath her cheek. She was warm, and let the tickling sensation of fur on her skin lull her into laziness.

Dio was a soft little puddle in the small of her back, still sleeping like his human. Dzantemir, for his part, was stretching out with a wet rumble that passed as his purr, and rolling over to nuzzle against Nicky's other side, licking his shoulder contently before nosing Andy's fingertips.

"Hey, Nicky," she murmured. "I think we lost Joe and Booker somewhere." They were probably being responsible morning people. They could have at it.

[ Hen's daemon takes the form of a griffin, having settled on that form around the time she was seventeen. She wasn't sure what to make of having her daemon take on the image of her home nation's heraldry at first, but as she's come to know her other self, she views him as less of a indicator of where she's from, and more an indicator of herself as a person.

Her daemon is calm and collected, carrying himself with a certainty suited of a retired warrior. ]

[Befitting someone who spent nearly as much time in the sky as with his feet on the ground, Estinien's daemon Nivéole had settled as a Harris's Hawk long ago. Her form was never something he really thought about, aside from being grateful that it wasn't something ridiculous like a horse, until his possession by Nidhogg.

It wasn't that the experience had changed her, even though he thought that it could have. Her form was ever the same as it had been since he was fifteen. It was that they could go so much farther from each other now, farther than they ever could before, without the discomfort and pain that all the Knights Dragoon knew from their training.

It had been useful on his journeys through Ilsabard, especially venturing into Garlemald, and he had very carefully not let himself think about it then, just as carefully as she hadn't mentioned it. Though now that he's back in the relative safety of Eorzea with naught better to do, he almost can't help himself.

He hasn't yet returned to Ishgard, or even left Revenant's Toll, not wanting to go far despite himself and in spite of what he to Tataru. Once he'd given his report to the Scions, seen Hen safely returned, he'd left Seventh Heaven and vaulted to the rooftops, finding an untraveled spot overlooking the bustling aetheryte plaza to simply sit and watch. Nivéole hadn't landed beside him, and is instead spiraling in restless circles high above.]

[Chikai’s daemon is a wary and temperamental red fox, with a habit of disappearing and reappearing suddenly, and tends to stay further away from Chikai than most daemons would be comfortable with. She’ll let Toi touch her, but anyone else who tries will get bitten.]

No one in the days of the Old Republic knew what, exactly, the Sith Lord's dæmon was meant to be, and certainly no one knows now. Few in this aggressively human Empire even know what the Force is. Fewer still that the word Sith means anything more than the dark shadow of the Jedi. Of course they're terrified of Darth Nox, and the thing that walks beside him.

The creature seems to be flesh and bone; cords of muscle under tight, stony skin as black as night wrap around an uncannily thin frame that calls to mind some sort of feline as it prowls on six legs, as is its preference. Yet there are times when it stands - like its master, like a human - on two, reaching with the long, tridactyl appendages that rise from its shoulders to grasp at things its featureless face should not have means to see.

It, like its master, belongs to a species either long dead or hidden in the unknown depths of space.

Surely the pleasure must be Thrawn's to have them both aboard his ship.

"Does your Emperor often break off the arms of his military forces to send trusted Admirals on excursions into wild space, or should I count myself lucky to have your escort?" the Sith asks dryly. His dæmon sits beside him, its whiplike tail snaking restlessly over the floor, back and forth.

[Naima is an eyelash viper and when she's not pretending to be a coiled bracelet around Joe's wrist, or draped across the back of his neck, she can usually be found somewhere nearby, and occasionally on one of the other members of the Guard]

It wasn't overly often that their daemons changed: they were all long grown after all, and usually their souls' physical manifestations had at least settled as one kind of animal. Of course Zan was having none of that. He usually spent his time as a viper, a two-foot black rope that lived on Andy's shoulders, or underneath one of the others' animals. Eve liked to sit on him like an egg when he consented to stay still long enough: sometimes that was all that convinced him.

But this time when Andy woke with a long, retching gasp of air, he changed. Into a tawny and very large Persian leopard.

Andy rolled over to sit up, took one look at him flicking his newly-furred tail and flexing his claws, and sighed. "You have something against being discreet, don't you?"

[Nile's daemon is Kilimanjaro, usually just called Kili, and he's a common potoo. Which means that sometimes he looks like a branch and sometimes he looks like a muppet and neither of them are quite sure how to act around the rest of the Guard and being so casual with each other's daemons.]

( Neppi isn't the most subtle of creatures. While Joe is trying his best to give Nile her space, Neppi hasn't been able to stop pacing between Andy, Nicky and their daemons since they left Booker. Nile and Kili have already been added to her headcount, so when she goes to sniff Kili by the counter, Joe has to physically nudge her in the opposite direction of Nile. )

Sorry. She means well, it's just... instinct for her. ( Joe sips at the mug of tea in his hand, urging the morning sleepiness from his system. It was a cool morning on the countryside, and they had nothing but time right now. Time for Neppi to fret and Joe to lose sleep, for the most part. )

Neither of you should feel pressured. It's a lot. On top of another pile of 'a lot'. ( He gave her a small smile from behind his mug, as Neppi doubled back to sniff Kili again for good measure. )

[Magdalena -often just Maggie these days- is a Northern Goshawk, and has been for forever and a day, they both knew what kind of protection Nicky was going to need, though she's far friendlier than she looks, especially with the rest of the Guard.]

[Nile has had better days. This was supposed to be a simple thing, a quick in and out and yet, here is she sliding down the damn side of a mountain under the sound of gunfire. Overhead, Olabisi is shrieking her displeasure at the situation, dropping down time and again to rake sharp claws over the pursuing soldier's eyes before flapping away again, dodging the swipes and bites of their own Daemons.

Her voice is more than a little strained as it comes across the earpiece]

Nicky! Could use a hand here! Dammit [She curses as a round slams into her shoulder but she doesn't break her stride, she can feel the wound healing already. Would it kill them to make it hurt less? She twists and fires back, but doesn't stay looking long enough to see if the shot hits its mark]

Ola! [She calls, knowing the peregrine falcon can hear her, turning toward the woods and where Nicky, hopefully, is camped out with that rifle of his. She's seen him shoot before--there's no one else she'd rather have covering her six]

[Shuri was not the first of the royal family to have a non-feline Daemon, though it wasn't something that happened often, she was certainly the first in a long time.
Akimbo was, in fact, an octopus. He'd been through a few different permutations of animals that could help hand her things and keep her creative, and having a sea creature for a daemon had definitely facilitated a good deal of creativity, finally inventing him a hover-tank so that he could follow her around, or, in instances that she should have gone to bed, keep pushing himself to the edge of their comfortable range until she followed.]
