( It's been a long time since Boiling Rock. Years at least, and their paths have taken very different directions in that time. They barely cross at all. Honestly, Ty Lee doesn't expect she'll ever see Azula again, certainly not in a situation where they aren't on opposite sides.

But Ty Lee leaves the Kyoshi warriors, and suddenly there's no direction in her life. She travels, because there's really not a lot else she can do. There's still so much of the world she hasn't seen, and it seems as good an idea as any when she's this torn up inside. At least in doing this, she might find herself along the way.

She finds Azula.

By some miracle they don't attack on sight, and there's a horrible moment where Ty Lee looks at her and sees the girl that sought her out for the most important task in the world. Never mind that the task was capturing the Avatar, that they were on the wrong side of that war, that Azula captured their hearts with fear as much as with loyalty, friendship. Friendship.

That's what she call it, anyway.

But they don't attack on sight, and instead Ty Lee suggests a walk. They're in a quiet little Earth Kingdom village, it's the turn of the season and there's blossoms falling from the trees. Under other circumstances, one might think it almost...

...well. She doesn't think that way anymore. )

What are you doing here? ( It's a lot easier to look at Azula when they're stood next to each other like this, and even through the obvious tension in Azula's body Ty Lee can see that she's different. Maybe all of those years haven't been kind to her, but it seems like some of them might have helped her, at least. ) You seem...

( What can she even say? At peace? Maybe more than when they were fourteen, but she's clearly not there yet. Less angry? She doesn't think it's possible for Azula to be less angry, there's possibly always going to be a fury simmering below the surface. Calmer? She looks like she might bolt, or set the whole forest alight at any moment. )

Squalo has done well for himself, or so he thinks. He was a natural born hitman and rose quickly through the ranks in mafia, becoming quite a sought for figure among those who knew the... industry. He wasn't merely good at getting rid of those someone wanted gone, however. He also had a nose for danger and an uncanny ability to avoid death, and together with his obsession with dedication it made him into quite a formidable bodyguard.

He'd managed to keep a prominent Don's son alive for years, until he was thrown into a mafia prison by his own father for repeated attempts on his life, and therefore did not need his services anymore. Squalo still wasn't certain how that affiliation didn't land him at the bottom of the river, but he wasn't going to complain. Especially now that an exceptionally rich family has reached out to him with quite an attractive offer once again.

What he doesn't quite expect while waiting for the audience, however, is that Constantino fucking Cavallone would be his new boss.

They had been inseparable back at school. Well, maybe that was a bit of a generalization; it started off with Squalo taking Dino's lunch and went downhill from there, but somehow eventually ended with them kissing and making an impromptu blood oath to be best friends* forever.

Forever lasted as long as high school did, then life happened, and somehow they'd fallen out of touch gradually, as childhood flames so often do. For a time, Squalo had almost forgotten him.

And now here he was sitting across the polished desk, having grown up quite fine, actually, and Squalo completely forgets whatever smug introduction he was going to belt out for a great first impression at (hopefully) his new job.

Instead, he can just stare stupidly at him for a few moments, then croak out ".......Dino?" as if such nicknames were appropriate for interviews.

He was going to need a moment.
