[Likes to be the caretaker, but willing to be with injured one]

( mike deserves to leave derry more than any of them, but for some god unknown reason he chooses to stay. eddie wants to leave more than he ever thought possible, but instead he has to stay. the claw stabbed through his shoulder – it probably should have killed him but instead he's just left with severely limited function and a shitload of physical therapy in his near future, and some very strongly worded advice not to travel any time soon, if he wants it to heal at all.
so he stays. and mike is there. eddie would never have asked, after what he did for them all, but it turns out he doesn't have to. mike stays in derry with him, and selfish as it might be eddie is just happy he isn't alone.
it's handy when the rehab start, too. by this point eddie is all but weaned off the painkillers, and the routines are starting to get more strenuous. it's harder because mike is funny when he's not talking exclusively about murder clowns, and did they all forget that or is it a new development? something he cultivated in adulthood, maybe. eddie sniggers his way through a set of stretches and hardly notices the slowly creeping ache through his shoulder, down his arm.
but it doesn't last forever. the next step is more complicated, and as eddie leans over a bench to brace his weight on the good arm his elbow suddenly buckles and sends the bad shoulder slamming straight into the bench. )
Fuck fuck fuck, shit, asshole.
( ever eloquent, eddie rattles off just about every curse word he knows as he devotes all his energy to clutching tightly at the wound, as if that's somehow going to make this less painful. and he can't even look at mike, because up until now all of his progress has been moving forward, and if this is a set back he thinks he might just scream. )

[ definitely more of a 'at least grown closer' category rather than fallen in love tbh. as caretaker, he's a writer not a doctor but has a compassionate streak, so he'd do his best. on the flip-side if he's the hurt one he's not the worst patient. probably. pre-canon/canon-divergence/au i'm open. gen angle: ota. shipping angle: m/m 30+ ]
