Perhaps you're the kindest, most love-filled person in the world. Or, on the other hand, you may be a calculating, cold villain. Most likely, you fall somewhere in the middle. But for this meme, everyone in this spectrum has one thing in common: you feel love towards someone. Not a facade, not even lust, but real, true love. This, of course, complicates things, yet your love is all-consuming and cannot be ignored.

How To Play:

This is a shipping meme that operates on "true love." You're welcome to interpret that as you will through your character and your character's culture/society/canon, but what your character will feel is equivalent to love. Not pretending, not a falsehood, etc etc. Actual love. This may be hard for them but that's the point of the meme!

11. Trying to Make It Work: Through good times and bad, you've decided to work together for what you feel, because you know you'll only ever love this person.
12. Back Together: You only had room for one person in your heart, and they were the one that got away. Now, though, you have another chance.
13. I Refuse to Leave: Sometimes, even true love isn't all that good. Sometimes it's destructive and painful, and the person you love isn't the one who's good for you. But they love you, and you can't leave.
14. Keep Your Hands Off!: You have to defend your partner, and you won't let anyone stand in the way.
15. Marry You: You've decided to make things permanent. You're getting married to this person, or whatever other bonding ceremony applies.

[Throughout the war, there was hardly any time for Linhardt to imagine what his future might look like should he survive and make it through til some sort of peace was reached.

There was no point in being too hopeful. And even then, he'd left his family, abandoned his title and inheritance, and betrayed the empire. There was no going back there now, even though his parents were still alive. In the unlikely chance they wanted him back, he would have to wrestle with the guilt and pain of having fought against and helped end the lives of some of his former classmates and friends.

That was too much. Better to stay away from there.

For now he was staying with Lorenz's family in the County of Gloucester. Linhardt never expected Lorenz to offer such an invitation, and he was more than a little grateful. There were plenty of people who looked at him with suspicion and mistrust considering his former status and homeland, so having a safe and comfortable place to stay was more than he could have hoped for after the conclusion of the war.

All the remaining nobles and high-ranking officials across Fodlan were busy trying to work out peace treaties to prevent any further bloodshed. Linhardt knew that Lorenz and his father were hard at work, but even still, Lorenz found time to spend with him most days. And as time passed, he really began to look forward to those moments.

It seemed both of them were surprised when chatting, tea and walks in the garden evolved into something a bit more... involved. Surprised because even though Linhardt decided he wanted to kiss Lorenz, he hadn't thought he would build up the courage during one of their walks. He had, nonetheless, and hadn't been met with hostility.

Where did that leave them? When little gestures of intimacy continued to build upon each other, it was clear that this wasn't a passing spark of interest.

When he and Lorenz were next sitting together for tea, Linhardt's mind was a mile away. He was so lost in thought that his gaze was focused at the wall, his fingers wrapped around a teacup that he hadn't lifted to his lips in a bit of time. Linhardt wanted to ask questions about where they were going with their relationship, but how to bring them up?]

[The Alliance was not like the petty Empire and Kingdom that bordered it. Lorenz, as the heir to House Gloucester, prided himself in being able to see the potential in anyone regardless of their birthplace. After all, it was what lead him to become to steadfast at Claude's side. Unlike his father and those before him, he was ...more open to change, in the very least.]

[So, taking Linhardt in had come as if second nature. Anything for the Alliance, and another mage and a healer at that made for a good soldier. A loss to the Empire was a gain for them, and that was that. Lorenz was a business minded fellow; at the end of the day his lineage did matter but without the intelligence to run as second in the Alliance his efforts would fall flat.]

[He rather liked his company, as well. Lorenz was not-- well, it was a poorly kept secret he enjoyed the company of men even if it wasn't something to be talked about in front of Count Gloucester. He took well to having the young man in his home, ensuring Linhardt was comfortable and could do as he pleased despite the mistrust from others in the Alliance. It was a show of good faith; if they were betrayed the Alliance would still look the better man. All business, all...]

[Perhaps, not all the time. He liked to sit with Linhardt and take tea after a particularly hard day. His thoughts did linger on the kiss Linhardt had given him but... again, it was difficult. With his standing, he could not simply-- no, no, he refused to let that dictate his love life. Marriage was one thing, but love? His father and no one else could decide those things for him. So he let himself dream a bit, about returning Linhardt's kiss in kind.]

[After all, he'd made a fool of himself hesitating before. He hoped he could repair the faux pas, move on. He ...cared for the other. He watched him fidget over his tea, Lorenz sitting back with his own, one long leg elegantly crossed over the other. Being around another man his own age, one who had kissed him he felt more free to express himself. He felt... Well, flustered was an understatement. He hoped, he wanted... But he had to wait for the right moment. It wasn't like romance couldn't be respected between two men.]

Have you been feeling well? You do look a bit peaked.

[He's bold, too bold perhaps, as he reaches to stroke a lock of hair back from the others face, watching him with concern. He cared, he wanted to show his compassion and perhaps love for the other but-- there was an order to these things! He would have to mind himself.]

[Linhardt has never been particularly good at reading other people or paying attention to the chatter or gossip around him. He hadn't really known one way or the other if Lorenz would welcome his affection, but decided to take the chance all the same. Maybe something in his unconscious mind gave him hints that he'd been too absentminded to notice before.

He does, of course, wonder just how far a relationship between the two of them could go. Would two men together be seen as a problem in Alliance territory? Back in Adrestia, women often settled down in couples, but it was much rarer to see men do the same.

There are so many factors to consider. Linhardt knows he's thinking too far ahead, but he can't seem to help himself. Falling into daydreams while he's supposed to be holding a conversation has always been a problem for him. Most people think he's just plain rude. Those who know him better see it differently.

Hearing Lorenz speak gradually draws him out of his musings, though it's the brush of fingers over his cheek that more effectively snap Linhardt back to attention. He smiles, face indeed flushed a bit red, but from a blush rather than any illness.]

I'm well. I just lost myself in thought.

[He lifts the teacup to his lips finally, taking a slow sip. The taste is perfect. What else would he expect from Lorenz?]

I was thinking about you. Or us, actually. If there is an "us".

[He supposed Linhardt did that often, lose himself in thought. It was something Lorenz loved about him, his critical thinking and focus on his subjects. He'd respected that in academy, and even more now with him on their side. He may not have been the best at magic despite his efforts, so it was something he respected highly in others. It made Linhardt even more interesting to him... and he hadn't been able to get the other off his mind very often since he'd arrived.]

[Lorenz thought of the kiss, as he watched Linhardt take a sip of tea. His pale lips get shiny and damp, just for a few moments. Lorenz wonders if his face looks hot suddenly, as his cheeks heat up just a bit at the thought. He busies himself with his own tea for a moment, sipping delicately as to not disturb his painted mouth. He swallows.]

In simple terms of... the heart, I would very much like there to be an "us".

[He had been propositioned before, he was no blushing virgin, but he felt too excited that Linhardt wanted to take things further, to be something. Even with his position, his responsibilities... well, the heart yearned for all it wanted. He couldn't resist his emotions, he had never been good at hiding them.]

I apologise for how I acted-- before. I was so shocked I didn't return your favor in kind... I hope I didn't cause you any kind of stress.

[Lorenz shook his head, fiddling with a piece of his hair behind his ear, on the shorter side. Then he looked back to his would-be lover, more sheepish than was normal on his face. Lorenz was confident with everything-- except his feelings.]

I wanted... to kiss you back, very much.
