" 'Ah, right, the drinks'". Mimicking his tone. "Look, I am very serious about my drinks, especially when they are free." She finally stopped twirling in her head, and looked around and pointed. "There, usually they have bottled water. Doesn't help if your customer base passes out from heat stroke."

Anna bounced a bit on the balls of her feet and started to walk leisurely to the stand she had pointed at. Glancing over at him. Yes he did look bit like a red dandelion. A happy one at that.

"Oh yea? Makes sense with the risks and all." She would definitely not sound like if she was envious. And reality she wasn't. Get paid for what you're worth.

A bit of a waggle of her brows and flashed a teasing grin. "Brought the right person to the carnival then. Me being a starving musician and all."

[Honestly, she's not sure how she wound up at the carnival in the first place either. Well, she can guess how that happened, it's not too difficult to imagine. Someone could've found her and brought her in for repairs, to reuse for the carnival's purpose.

How she woke up again is something she doesn't know, though. She had accepted--

Her head snaps up as she hears footsteps heading toward where she is hiding. It's so easy to kill her breath altogether (she never really needed it), to stay still like a statue - or a deactivated animatronic.

Thankfully, her hiding space was good enough that she only gets a glimpse of faded yellow and disrepair, rather than being found by it. He passed by-- Good.

Perhaps this is hell, she thinks as she judges him gone and slips out, trying to go the opposite direction. With any luck, she'll be able to avoid the monster.]

[A carnival shows up on the outskirts in Gusu City. Colorful lights up the night sky as people and their families goes to check out the food vendors, the games, the rides, and the shows. Food is plentiful, prizes of dolls were hung on display, and mechanical rides that will guarantee a headache.

Wherever Wei Wuxian wanted to go, he follows dutifully after him. With a sword in hand and a free hand tucked behind his back, a fixed stoic expression, he follows whatever is his idea of "fun". He passed by, looking seemingly disinterested.

It was only then he stops at one of the game kiosk with big stuff rabbit plushies hang in rows offered as prizes that he tugs at one of Wei Ying's sleeve for attention to the dolls.]

[ Childish delight is obvious on Wei Wuxian's face as he walks through the crowds, eyes large and impish. A carnival! In Gusu, of all places. It's a riot of color and smells and sounds, crowds of people swarming around. ]

We are going to try everything, Lan Zhan! All of the rides. The food! I wonder if they'll have any traditional sweets for you.

[ He's heading for one of the rides when he feels a slight tug on his sleeves and turns to peer at Lan Wangji, eyes going to the plushies dangling over the game. ]

Sharp eye, Lan Zhan. [ Ride momentarily forgotten, Wei Wuxian examines the game, rocking back on his feet. ] You know these are rigged, right? But I'll win you one.

speaking of which. perhaps unsurprisingly, what's driven five to making an appearance at a carnival is necessity: more to the point, there's a new set of commission goons in town to kill him. he'd expected that, you know; occupational hazard of now being twice escaped from his contract, not to mention the whole preventing the apocalypse business.

he's blinked here because it's nearby, because there's a huge crowd to lose himself in, because it'll buy time. so he'll have to linger here for a while in hopes of throwing them off the scent, that's fine. what he doesn't expect is to turn around and nearly walk straight into his brother. ]

With a huff Chloe hooks his arm and drags him back on track. "Can you please stay focused for at least the next five, no, ten minutes?"

Because there's a book that a lot of people believe in makes some vague statement, so they think it's a sin.

[Vaggie huffed a little at the thought, taking an aggressive bite of her icecream. She definitely raised an eyebrow at his statement, sounded like something a guy would do with a female assistant.]

"When's the last time you let something catch your eye?" He's genuinely curious. She might not think he takes anything seriously, but she seems to take everything seriously all the time.

"Yes, that's true but we still have to stay focused. This is a confirmed lead. You follow that first before you start canvassing." Something she'll probably wind up doing alone once he's distracted.

"What do you mean catch my eye? I don't get distracted, Lucifer. Especially not when I'm working."

"Well I don't want to eat first, those rides do look like they'd work well with it." She shook her head and turned to look at the crowded food stalls and back to the equally crowded rides area. They might die down in a little bit, and when she turned her head to look the games area was not nearly so full.

"Oh! Over here!" She tugged him by the hand, making quick steps over to the games and smiling at the bright and colorful displays. They had water pistols that blew up balloons on a clowns head, a funny looking horse race, a baseball throw at milk cans, a duck shooting gallery, a dart throw and one of those test your strength hammer games.

Her eyes were caught though but a small bear in a jacket not unlike Cliff's own, it had goggles and a little aviator scarf as well. She cooed at it, and stepped up to try her luck at a game.

"Really? I didn't think they'd allow guests! And nuts to the boys, you talk about Ororo all the time, and she sounds like the absolute best!"

She then put on an exaggerated face, looking from side to side as if imparting some great secret.

"And, pfft, of course we would. Ginger Squad. It's a real thing. But it's a secret real thing."

She's expecting a lot from him if she expects him to be able to focus. It's something he's never been capable of, no matter what he was supposed to focus on. Even when he tries, it doesn't usually work. "Let's meet this fortune teller then." He can listen sometimes.

That hadn't been quite what he meant, but he files it away for later. "Really? I didn't know you noticed things like that."

"Well, chalk this up to my weirdest nail polish adventure ever," she replied.

She pulled back piece by piece, still looking warily at the mirror.

[The festivities of the carnival and his childish delight has an effect on him. For one thing, he actually enjoys his company, so he isn't pretending that he is simply tolerating it.

It's crowded and the weather is warm as summer is close to ending.]

He was very happily pulled, all things said and done. When Jenny got enthusiastic, it was best to go along with it.

He saw what she was cooing over a few seconds after she did, and immediately tried to calculate which of them he'd have the best shot at. Maybe the hammer, or the baseball throw.

Of course, there was every chance she'd manage it, too - she ha many, many hidden depths he'd yet to discover, despite knowing her very well.
