[Something Marianne had heard recently in a sermon is on her mind as she prays. Words of comfort for the people who have suffered during the war (all of them) and how the Goddess wishes for them to lighten their hearts and set down their burdens. Usually that sort of thing rings hollow for Marianne and always has, but hope has been easier to find lately.

The preacher had talked about finding nepenthes, things that bring joy or peace to the mind so that grief can be forgotten for at least a little while. Marianne meditates on this as she places her usual prayers at the Goddess' feet. For the health and safety of others, for good harvest for the people, for her pain to be less.

She thinks of Dorté and the other horses of Garreg Mach. She thinks of the other animals she has taken solace in the company of. She thinks of King Dimitri, and the warm understanding in his clear blue eye whenever his gaze is on her.

She prays for his safety and happiness, and wonders where he is at this very moment.]

Nico always left what felt like a grocery list of things to do whenever she left on matters of court or business. While most could be split amongst the most trusted of the other directors, she always left yearly assessments of her division to be dealt with by her little brother when she wasn't around. A task that Vincent didn't mind taking but wished that she would stop giving it to him, seeing as he had his own agents to speak with. Orion hands him a tablet with a list of agents he would be speaking with today. He idly scrolled through the grid of ID photos with his chin resting in the palm of his hand as he sat at his desk until one particular agent popped up.

It had been some time since he last had her in his office, never forgetting their last meeting where she stabbed him with a such a pathetic little knife. As much as he wanted to cherry-pick the agents, he decided to keep the best for last, so to speak.

There was a call to Auriga, a transfer of the list to him and the day of endless meetings began. One by one, he terrorized the agents that walked through his office doors. Some had gotten better at not allowing his actions or words to visibly get under their skin, an improvement from the last time they spoke. Some broke down quite easily. All got their evaluations for their needs of improvement, pay raises based on client feedback, and the number of regular clients that seek them out specifically. Some got words of congratulations and impressed looks, others did not.

When Auriga finds Esther for her turn, he gives her an apologetic smile as he pressed the tablet to his chest, saying the Vincent would be speaking to her about her yearly assessment since Nico was occupied and that she was being requested. He knew how much she hated any sort of interaction with the man. There was rarely anyone who did like speaking with him. He gives her a thumbs up and a promise of coffee later as he stops in front of the office door, "You got this !"

Orion opened the door shortly after, gesturing for her to come in before standing guard in front of it. Vincent sat at the edge of his desk, tablet in hand as he lifts his head with an innocent enough smirk, "Welcome back, Miss Moreau. Please take a seat."

The Space Station Sensation is a fucking embarrassment, and not just because of its name. Amos spends as much time as he can in the engine room, trying to optimize crossed wires and the spilling guts of redundancy systems spewing feedback and power loss. He still hasn't found the core.

He's gonna, though, and not because this floating rust bucket is supposed to be the great, last hope to improve humanity. If they picked him as one of their special specimens, humanity's already fucking doomed.

He's going to find it, because he always finds it.

And maybe a windmill to tilt at will keep him out of trouble. There's no Naomi, no Holden, nobody to tell him what to do. The closest thing is the not-kid-kid, the one with old eyes and a spine that hasn't yet realized out it's not arthritic. Amos isn't smart, but he's not dumb enough to listen to the kid. The kid is venom, pure danger, all sharp instincts honed in death and pain.

Amos knows the type.

Something's off, and it's a puzzle he can't quite stop poking at, because it's wrong. A black hole in the center of the universe, the second-sense that makes everything logical constrained by the presence of one thirteen-year-old. It's fucking bullshit.

Better to have your enemies close. Your brain-sweat fuckup phenomena? Keep that closer.
