the "WE'RE HAVING A BABY" meme
Nature is no respecter of persons, my friends. Whether it be childhood friends, newlyweds, or one-night stands, a single decision or accident can change everything, and there will be three people instead of just two.
Congratulations! The characters in these threads and those who reply to them are now expecting babies, no matter what their unique situation may be. Of course, depending on the characters, this might go over like a lead balloon. But wait! Even if the decision to have a baby was made and was consensual, the process is no walk in the park. There is lots to do...and only nine months to do it. Nine potentially drama-filled months.
HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character, preferences, etc.
- Not all options here are fluffy and happy. Some are potentially angsty or possibly triggering. Tread lightly. Be sure to mention what you want and what you don't want.
- Reply to others.
- For this, male characters can get pregnant because why not.
PROMPTS
- How'd It Happen: What led up to this event? How are you in this situation?
- Realization: There's a wrench in the works...or maybe it was expected, but you're just realizing you're pregnant.
- Positive Reaction: Yes, after all this time and planning! You're finally ready for a family.
- Negative Reaction: Oh, no. This is terrible. You're in no position to take care of a child!
- Freak Outs: But...how? You're a human, she's an alien, how -
- Deciding What to Do: If this wasn't planned, there needs to be a plan of action now.
- Keep it Secret: You're attempting to keep your pregnancy a secret from your partner. This is only a bandaid for the bigger problem.
- Telling Others: The other people in you two's life have to know at some point.
- Drama: No one wanted you to have a kid and the anger is palpable.
- Morning Sickness and More: Everything hurts and the mornings are hell.
- Learning: If you're in a technologically advanced society, you may get to see an ultrasound. Otherwise, there are folk remedies that can be tried.
- Manipulation: One of you is using the prospect of a child to bend the other to their will and make them stay.
- My Body is a Cage: The person carrying the baby is having a decent amount of discomfort, mentally and physically.
- Showing: It's a secret no longer with an expanding stomach.
- Support: The partner who isn't carrying the child should do their best to be there and help out...
- Overprotective: ...but to a degree. Don't act like the partner carrying the child is made of paper.
- Getting Ready: The house or apartment or castle has to be babyproof.
- Heart to Heart: It's time to talk about the big changes before the happen. Where do the two of you stand?
- It's Happening: THE BABY IS COMING.
- Rough Going: Childbirth is still a dangerous affair and there's no smooth sailing for you. So pace if you're lucky, scream in the bed if you're not.
- Bad End: Not all new beginnings last. Sometimes, they become unhappy endings.
- Coming Home: Finally, parents and baby get to settle down.
- Getting Used to This: Well, maybe settle down. There's still crying in the night, feedings to do, diapers to change...

[CW: spoilers for current expansion]
Rhalgr knew that Hydalyn hadn't exactly been happy that he nearly broke her chosen Warrior of Light when he first fucked her all those months ago. But, as he explained to her, she was probably the best person for him to bed, given her immunity to any accidental tempering effects on his part. At the time, he thought that was the only reason the Mothercrysal was displeased with him for giving Hen the best sex of her life to date.
So it was when he got word that she recently returned from one of the remaining shards that he decided to pay her a visit. He was in Mor Dhona, after hearing Lyse's prayer for her Scion friends to return to their bodies, and he thought it best to pay a visit to the Rising Stones. He still went by the name he was born with in this mortal life, Cor, and was in the middle of inquiring with the cute little receptionist regarding her whereabouts...

The time between her capture and rescue and her foray into the First, Hen hadn't the time to think much of Cor, despite their night together being some of the best sex she'd had in a while.
It wasn't until Shtola's aethersight picked up the new addition (with confirmation from a chirurgeon) that Hen thought about it deeper. And so here she was, forced back to the Source and firmly told to 'take things easy'.
"I'm right here." Hen groused as she exited Dawn's Respite. Her tight undershirt was swapped for a shorter one, belly beginning to fill out. "Oh, hello." she waved, a wry smile on her face. "We might've overdid it."

"...perhaps we should discuss this in private? At least, until we know how to talk to other people about...well..." There's hesitation, and a touch of nerves, but there's also aj undertone of excitement that he barely hides.

Blessedly, no one was there, no doubt eager to see how things had changed since their departure. Hen made her way to what was presumably her bed, sitting down. She rubbed the back of her neck, surprisingly bashful.
"So I will admit it, I'm kind of a slut. I wasn't sure whose it was at first. But after Shtola and the chirurgeon's confirmed the baby has a heavy tilt toward Levin aether, there was no doubt in my mind." Hen explains, one hand on her stomach. "...Is there a guidebook involving godlike babies or anything?"

Rhalgr sits next to Hen on the bed, on hand seeking out hers to help ground her. "Kind of wondering as to who else I should be jealous of to have enjoyed your company," he teases. But there's no real jealousy; this particular soul has never been tied to just one person.
Once he gets the confirmation that it's really is, his breathing shudders for a moment as reality begins to sink in. "Sadly, no. Those died with the tribes those damn Allagans stamped out. What I can confirm is that the Mother Crystal cannot claim them as their own. They may still awaken to the Echo, and thus hear her, but it would be very difficult - if not impossible - to receive her Blessing."
A heartbeat and then he remembers something just as important. "Oh, and you might end up having some static lighting on and off during the last few months of the pregnancy."
no subject
"Thank goodness." Hen sighs. "I've...learned quite a lot about Hydaelyn and Zodiark on the First and, to hear they can't be Tempered is...relieving to say the least."
She gives him a wry smile. "Well, you're gonna be sticking around to help absorb all that lightning. Don't wanna shock my family."

A chuckle at her responding joke, however, helps ease the seriousness in the air. "You mean, they wouldn't be jolted at the idea of who exactly put a baby into you?" He then sighs and kisses her forehead. "Don't worry; I'll do my best to try and help raise our child. I may be no Scion, but I'm willing to put down some roots here - or wherever you wanna raise the little one."
no subject
"They've been asking me who. I wasn't quite sure how to tell them the Destroyer given flesh was the one. Perhaps you could clear things up." Hen hums, eyes shutting contently. "I'll admit, I'm kind of scared. I've got no clue how to handle a baby. Youngest I've ever handled was Yozan and his friends and they're at least ten years old."
Don't mind some head-canon here...
Her inquiry as to how to explain the father, however, gives Rhalgr a much needed confidence boost. "Well, lucky for both of us, I was born into this life as a mortal with a mortal name. Nothing terrible attached to that same name, either, so we can use it for most people who will ask. As for your friends?"
He thinks for a few moments. "...let's see if they can guess how 'abnormal' I am first before telling them the truth." They're all high educated people, supposedly well-versed in aetherology. Surely, he can test them on how quickly they can pick up his immortal aura hiding within this mortal body.
He then gently hugs her from the side once she admits her lack of child rearing experience. "It's okay; I do remember being a father in some previous lives. May not be the best kind of father, but at least I can help keep the kid alive and not be spoiled rotten in how they're raised."
Headcanon's all good.
"Cor, right? It's a good name." Hen hums, leaning into him as he speaks, hands on her stomach. "I'm not even sure how to approach the subject with them. They might think you're a primal and attempt to have me kill you like the rest."
She nuzzles against him at the hug. "I'm just...How am I supposed to be a mother when entire worlds depend on me? Garlemald's not going to stop their Weapons just so I can deliver a baby. And what happens when the wrong sort finds out?" Hen shook her head, trying to rid herself of the anxieties building up.
sweeeet
Rhalgr smiles upon her mentioning the Weapons. "You're speaking to the Destroyer, dear Warrior of Light. Just tell me where they're located and how to reach them, and I'd be more than happy to obliterate those monstrosities for you. Beyond that, the Alliance should recognize that you won't be fighting fit for much longer; I'd be very upset if young Hext and Ser Aymeric don't champion your need for rest at this crucial time."
One hand drifts down to rub over her belly, the wheels turning in his head. "...there's a difference between being summoned and being reincarnated. For one, I don't need crystals to survive. But I'd be happy to explain the details." Another smile, this time smaller and more wry. "Besides, I doubt that they'd be that eager to banish a member of the Twelve without first trying to talk things out - especially given your current state."
