The Size-Shifting Meme

Shrinking and growing are popular themes in movies, comics, tv shows, and even in classic stories such as Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver’s Travels, and ancient mythologies. The large and the strong are usually treated with respect, while the small and the weak are not; height and physical strength are tied in to power dynamics. So when a character changes size, it changes their outlook on the world, and it more often than not changes other's outlook on them.
How they view themselves and how others view them, and the resulting actions and reactions are dependent on several factors. What kind of person were they before, and whether or not their personality will differ significantly with a loss or addition of power. Was the change intentional or not? If so, what were their motives? Can the change be reversed? Do they or others even want it to be reversed?
How to Play
•Comment with your character, your preferences.
•Include your character's original height and what height they’ve transformed to.
•Respond to others.
•Profit.

4.) Altered Reality
Prompts
2.) Born This Way: This isn’t a new thing for you, you’ve always been smaller or bigger, it’s everyone else you encounter who needs to get used to it.
3.) Villainous Plot: A villain has shrunk you for some nefarious reason. Or on the contrary, you’re the villain and you’ve found a way to make yourself into a powerful giant, or a way to shrink your heroic nemesis.
4.) Ongoing: You’ve not only shrunk/grown, you’re still shrinking/growing. Just how small/tall will you get?
5.) Everyday Life: How does your smaller/larger size impact your day-to-day life? Are you having to shop for clothes in the kids’ section? Can you fit inside your house? How about work and school? Is the media hounding you? Are scientists wanting to run tests on you?
6.) Friends and Family: How are those closest to you handling your new size, and how are you handling being around them now?
7.) Romance: Is your significant other still in love with you? Or if you don’t have a special someone, will you be able to find someone who can see past your size and love you for you?
8.) Fantastic Voyage: You (and probably others) intentionally shrank down to take an internal tour of the human body and find some mysterious ailment inside a world leader before it’s too late to save them.
9.) Kaiju War: You were intentionally grown to fight the giant monsters that are plaguing your world. Who needs nukes or jaegers? You are the weapon.
10.) Secret Agent Man: A new form of espionage, spies like you shrink down to access areas regular-sized people are locked out of and get information undetected.
11.) It's A Living: Being so tall and strong, you've found yourself the center of a lot of job offers; construction, military, advertising, entertainer, firefighter, police are just a few.
12.) Unforeseen Side-Effects: Perhaps the shrinking process left you with super strength. Or the growth process had a detrimental effect on your mental capabilities and now you’re a cannibalistic giant. Either way, more than a sudden change in size has happened to you.
13.) Unaware: Suddenly finding yourself smaller can be daunting, but without anyone knowing you’re down there can be downright dangerous. Or on the contrary, perhaps you are the one that’s unaware of someone smaller in your midst.
14.) Downsizing: Shrinking is simply the newest trend. Whether you want to live like a tiny billionaire, or your goal is to reduce your ecological footprint (and your real one too).

I kind of lean towards the subterfuge angle insomuch as I see her being able to coach him through some interactions he'd otherwise be pretty awkward at until they get to where she needs to be planted for maximum effect. he'd basically be her shield in that scenario and she'd be his comptroller. very secret agent. though I also think that might touch on some sensitive subjects with him being underage and possibly involving drugs/sex work/a fighting ring and I wouldn't want to make you uncomfy even if their ultimate goal is to capture the main ringleader/break that up.
or we can just shirk the more serious stuff and have them be bodyguards for one or the other while a cure is searched for. I'm just fine with Kirishima having to navigate taking care of Sushi while she's indisposed for a bit. ]

I was hemming and hawing between the two options because I like them both, but I just realized that if the thread goes long enough, we can probably have both......... Like, maybe Midnight's been shrunken by a villain and until they can come up with something, she decided to carry on with her Pro Hero work anyway.
Drugs are a familiar topic for Nemuri because she and a lot of Pro Heroes (including Fat Gum) did some drug cartel-related work in Vigilantes (please do let me know if you've read it so I don't talk your ear off or if you haven't so I can avoid spoilers lmao). In fact, it was Trigger that they were looking into. So we can deal with Trigger or other illegal substances if you're interested in that! ]

I have not read Vigilantes yet, though I feel like I need to with how often I'm tagging Midnight lmfao and also I like the other teachers. I'm fine with spoilers, however, if you feel like giving me a little run-down on what I'd need to know. I'd just blaze through the series rq but my internet is kind of shoddy atm.
obviously Kirishima loves Fat Gum and his other teachers, tho. he'd be happy to be a fresh face that can make a difference. ]

Basically Trigger one of the huge problems in the series because the drug cartel's testing it on innocent citizens and the "high" causes them to go into a violent rampage (like in Kirishima's episode in BNHA with that villain, basically, except this time these are innocent people). There were also some experiments in which the citizens never went back to normal. Nemuri also went undercover to research about people getting roofied with it in their drinks... And basically that was her going to a bar and pretending to be a college student, lol. So if you're interested in that sort of scenario, we can do that. We can also do them breaking into a lab to steal some research on it, etc, because we can see that it hasn't been perfected yet in BNHA but maybe the cartel's getting close to it. There are lots of options, so lmk if you have any ideas or if you feel like any of those scenarios I just listed. ]

wow... so it sounds like this drug might have been a progenitor to this quirk-enhancing drug? I feel like that could certainly carry into modern day after what's happened with the yakuza and Overhaul.
I guess my pitch would be starting with Kirishima having to take Midnight home after she got slammed with a villain quirk, taking care of Sushi, then she maybe asks him if he wants to go next level to investigate this thing with her since he is a sort of side-kick for Fat Gum? and Fat Gum would naturally get cued in and be a part of that and give his blessing. but it'd mostly be Midnight's project while she's smol? basically Fat Gum would be lending Kirishima to her for his work study. tho if it's more comfy we could also say it's Kiri's 2nd or 3rd year and he's a side-kick bc I do think he'd happily stay with Fat Gum. ]

Yup, that makes sense to me. The people victim to Trigger weren't just in Kansai but also in Tokyo, so I'm sure Fat Gum wouldn't mind. (He actually does visit Tokyo in Vigilantes to help out!) I also don't mind whichever year you choose! ]

[ So Kirishima isn't sure why he's the man for this job yet, but he's nothing short of thankful?
Because as soon as he walks through the door of Midnight's place, there's a soft and needy yowling and a ginger-white cat coming to greet him, paws clawing up to his knees with expectation. ]
Heeey, Sushi!
[ He kneels down, one hand shutting the door behind him while the other moves to caress the feline between the ears. ]
You smell mom, right? She's here.
[ With the door shut, the attending hand moves to his uniform pocket, offering a platform for the woman who is still very much his professor despite what her diminutive size suggests. ]
I've never had a cat before. It's time to for food now, right?
[ He asks her more than him. It seems a logical conclusion for Kirishima, though; he himself is pretty food-motivated. ]
s'cool with me!
Sushi meowed loudly as Kirishima scratched his ears, and he began to purr as soon as Nemuri used both of her arms to ruffle the fur atop his head. ]
He's got an automatic feeder, so he should be alright for a few more days.
[ Very important when she was always out of the house. ]
Thanks for your help, Kirishima-kun. I'd normally enjoy having a young man carry me everywhere I need to go but this was not quite how I pictured it.

No treats?
[ Kirishima queries, continuing to sooth his rough-skinned yet gentle touch over the cat's brow, itching behind Sushi's ears while avoiding Nemuri's presence with deference.
It might be clear to her that Kirishima wants to make himself more favorable in the eyes of this so-far affectionate feline. It's not often he gets the favor of one of these more elusive yet nonetheless fluffy creatures. ]
Hey, I'm happy to help, Midnight-sama! I'm only sorry it's taken this to happen for me to meet Sushi at last.
[ He keeps the hand that continues to be her platform as still as possible, an everlasting option. ]
I'm your work-horse. Just tell me what you want me to do!
[ There's an easy sort of cheer in his voice, though it's a gentle thing blowing over cat and woman alike. That's kind of unusual for him. It's almost like he's being particularly considerate. ]
no subject
Oh, if you'd like to spoil him a little, his treats should be in the kitchen - just look for the pack beside the stack of canned tuna.
[ At the word "treats", Sushi immediately perked up, looking at both of them expectantly.
Nemuri wasn't going to say that she wasn't pleased by Kirishima-kun's brand of consideration. She let out a laugh as he affixed the obsequious honorific to her name, obviously hamming it up to cater to her. She found that despite the "rough and manly" nature of his Quirk, he was actually quite the softie, funnily enough. ]
Aren't you sweet?
[ She reached down to give his hand a pat. ]
Would you raise me to your head?
[ So that she could fondly ruffle his hair with both of her arms as she did with Sushi. ]
no subject
Indeed, he's quite the polite boy despite what his rough-and-tumble nature is in practice. Perhaps that's a part of why he's here; his quirk shields and he's ready to charge into battle, but he prioritizes other people first.
He gives a chuckle at being called out as sweet and Sushi's obvious new attention on him, not denying the accusation. He feels the little ruffle through his hair, a place not many people touch because it seems less obvious as a point of attack or because it's so obviously styled. It's like a stiff, gel forest in there. ]
Yeah, of course!
[ He lifts his hand to let Midnight latch onto those spiny, red sprouts, assuming she just wants a better hold on him. And at the same time Kirishima lifts from his crouch, moving on to the kitchen to fetch the fabled tuna. ]
It's gotta be pretty weird for you right now...
[ He muses as he shuffles between a few cabinets. Once he finds the tuna, the search stops and he pulls the pack of treats out to prise it open. ]
But you've done so much for me, Midnight-sama. I just feel like I'm getting a chance to give you something back. I don't wanna say I'm happy about what you must be feeling right now... But it's kinda nice to know you can depend on me. Is that weird?
no subject
She easily sat on his shoulder as he moved to her apartment kitchen. ]
It is. The most difficult part was the motion sickness at first when people carried me around.
[ But she lifted her shoulders in a shrug. ] That won't stop me from doing my job, though.
[ His thoughts made her smile, and she patted his cheek from her perch. ] That's not weird at all. Heroes feel the most fulfilled when they're able to help someone in need.
[ Speaking of which... She was wondering how she could help people in need right now. She had an assignment this weekend, and now that she was pocket-sized, she wasn't certain if she was still going to be able to do it. ]
Say, Kirishima-kun... I'm actually working on something with the police right now. I've been on this case on and off for years. Do you want to give me a hand with it while I'm tiny?
no subject
Kirishima is made all the happier by spoiling Sushi with little morsels of treats from what she's given him interspersed with pets. Amazing how much a cat loves you when you have food and don't yell excitedly in its face! Though the little cooing Kirishima gives is just as embarrassing as any veteran pet-owner. He's a natural. ]
Really? I've met a few heroes who feel most fulfilled when they kick some ass... [ The bit of candor is replaced by regret as he realizes a murmur is probably still very well heard by a tiny presence near him. ] Sorry! I mean what you said is definitely true for me, sensei.
[ Bakugou is who he's thinking of. Sure, his friend does care about citizens... he just cares about fighting and winning more. And Kirishima still adores him despite having his priorities in defense himself.
The question has him perking out of spoiling Sushi with treats and pets. ]
I mean yeah!!! If you think I'm good enough, sensei! Years?
[ The enthusiasm of the response might scare the cat off a bit and threaten to deafen her. Sometimes Kirishima just isn't aware of how much he can be. ]

However, Kirishima's musings almost made her snort, but she refrained because that wasn't very ladylike. ]
If that were the case, then perhaps those people should just go into MMA or other combat sports... Though I suppose if they're doing the citizens a service while they're at it, then there's nothing wrong with that.
[ In Nemuri's case, she'd also trained in martial arts because her Quirk wasn't destructive in nature. However, in her mind, the best fight was one that was nipped in the bud by her Quirk - or by her dominatrix costume.
She sensed Kirishima's enthusiasm after her propoosal. Thankfully she was so used to Yamada's yelling that she'd seen his outburst coming, and she managed to cover her ears in time. ]
Years... In fact, Fat Gum worked with me on this case way back, even before Aizawa-sensei and I became teachers. Have you heard of the drug Trigger?
