Once the Inquisitor had started trying to train him, it had immediately become pretty obvious what Jacob was in his past life - the specific variant of Form III he practiced, with an even stricter focus than usual on using the lightsaber solely for defense and controlling the enemy's weapon, but coupled with highly targeted strikes through the Force meant to distract or temporarily disable rather than cause actual harm, pointed to exactly one thing. Back in his Jedi days, Jacob had been a Healer, and he'd been Master Asha Nei's padawan. That was as good an explanation as any for Jacob's seemingly complete absence of killer instinct. 

Eventually, though, the Inquisitor had started to find out he was wrong in that assessment. It wasn't that Jacob lacked killer instinct; it was just so deeply suppressed that it had to start finding subtler, more insidious ways out. Like the way he'd started to truly make his Master work to defend himself through the Force - in sparring, the distracting strikes grew more targeted, and what they did, became more unsettling; his knowledge as a Healer became a weapon, and when the Inquisitor had learned to anticipate and compensate for the quick jabs through the Force that could briefly paralyze a limb, Jacob had just picked a target that would be more difficult to compensate for. Like, most recently, his lungs.

Then, there were the nightmares. Although the Inquisitor had yet to figure out the full extent of Jacob's power when it came to those, or exactly how he created them, he had figured out that, more often than not, Jacob was the one behind them. 

All those things, however, were still more like the nips of a nerfhound herding its charges rather than the bite of a Loth-wolf intent on dispatching his prey - no matter how much sharper Jacob's teeth had gotten since his training began. And afterward, he always knew exactly how to reassure his Master that he would never truly harm him, that it never crossed his mind that he even could, and that Jacob's loyalty to him was absolute - not just because he was aware of how much he still relied in the Inquisitor's protection, but because he actually felt something for him. Which was why, more often than not, their training sessions tended to end with the two of them in bed together.

At this particular moment, though, "in bed" was strictly a euphemism as Jacob was still kneeling, stripped and blindfolded, on the floor of his Master's quarters.
