the USERNAME meme

Journal names. They're something we all think about, and that we often try to make as fittingly torturous to our characters as possible. Isn't it nice that our characters never have to know they're wandering around with that horrible label attached to them?

...wouldn't it be fun if they did?

RULES

1 Your character is communicating with others through a journal community, just like how we're using them, and they are perfectly aware of that fact. Whether they think that's normal or not is totally up to you.

2 The also know that when they signed on to this community, they were automatically assigned a name that supposedly has something to do with their personality and/or history. They didn't have any say in what that name was going to be, they're just stuck with it.

3 Make a post with your character's reaction to seeing what their own username is. Do they think it fits? Do they hate it with a passion? Are they downright confused?

4 Comment to other people's posts with your character's reactions to everyone else's usernames. If they know the other character, they might have good reason to laugh at them or feel sorry for them. If they don't, this could lead to some pretty interesting first impressions, don't you think?

5 If you want to use a name that's different from your actual journal name, just mark that in your post. No need to create a whole new journal just to make your character's life worse for one meme. ;)

6 PROFIT!

If I had done a proper job there would be no more Senate. I don't remember fighting you though.

The feeling is not mutual. I fought for those that had been abused and oppressed by the Roman degenerates. It wasn't about "challenging" the might of Rome.

Well, it took a few more decades but the senate mostly became a useless thing once I stopped being a republic.

I know you fought for good reasons, better than most men. That's why I have respect and admiration for you. A human like you is a rare thing. You brought change to Rome even when the patricians didn't want things to change, even when I didn't want to admit it.

That would be after my time.

Those are fine words. Unfortunately I can not say the same for you. I have no respect or admiration to offer a Roman. I've seen the worst of your kind. [Maybe he's biased. There has been Romans that he does respect. Not just in their skill. Unfortunately the bad experiences outweighs the good.] But pray tell, what good did I add to the "Republic"? Did you stop enslaving innocents?

It was. At least the historians credit the war you led to changing things in Rome.

You've seen the worst of me and the best. Maybe in my younger years, I would've tried to change your mind, but now I've been humbled. I never got caught up with titles or who was technically and formally a citizen of mine. If they were in my lands and under my care, they were Roman to me. [Being a dead empire does that.]

No, and it took many centuries for even my former underlings and provinces to outlaw such a thing.[But he doesn't want to sound too cynical.] I had a few people outlaw it briefly, but they usually got assassinated and overruled pretty quickly. [What did he add? It's hard to explain.] What you added, as you put it, you created a story and legacy reminding citizens of how fragile their place in society is.

You speak strange words. [He furrows his brows, unsettled by how the man speak.] Are you saying that you're of some sort of influence in Roman society? You speak like a Senator, your words just as empty as theirs.

Then I accomplished nothing but giving nightmares to Roman citizens. It's not the legacy I'd hope to archive. But I suppose it's one. Better than being forgotten. Another slave broken to the core... dead in a ditch.
