flower spitting disease

more commonly known as "hanahaki disease," those afflicted with this disease are fated to cough up flowers as long as their love remains unrequited. this is often fatal, with flowers completely consuming their respiratory system. there are two ways to cure it: either have your feelings returned, or have it forcibly removed from your body through surgery, though the latter will force you to lose all memory of the person you love.

forgotten love syndrome

from an online novel of the same name, a syndrome caused by unrequited love that causes a person to begin to forget the person they love. eventually, they forget them completely, and the only way to retrieve those memories is via that person's death.

03. hoshinamidabyou
star tear disease

similar to hanahaki disease. people suffering from unrequited feelings will cry "stars"; they're similar to glass and are incredibly painful, and eventually the person afflicted with this disease will go blind. the sound they make when you cry can be pretty much anything.

04. shinshoubyou
hurting heart sickness

an affliction where emotional or mental scars physically appear on the body. depending on the type of trauma, the scars will look different. it can be healed by removing the trauma, but this is only temporary: the symptoms can always return.

05. tenshibyou
angel disease

a disease where an afflicted person grows wings. as the wings become more angelic/divine, however, the person attached to them grows weaker; eventually, they die.

06. hanasaki/kousekibyou
flower blossom/crystalization disease

a disease where flowers bloom out of someone's body. this can be on their body proper or from various orifices, such as their eyes, ears, and mouth. alternatively, a disease where the afflicted person grows crystals all over their body, until they're completely consumed.

[ it was supposed to be just an opportunity to get a part-time job, just some extra income for her to save up on the side for when she graduates. katalina always works so hard to support the two of them, and lyria has always been so grateful to her for taking her in and eventually adopting her when she was old enough to do so. she wanted to do her part to help any way she could... and apparently that meant approaching the transfer student during lunch one day to ask if the cafe he works and lives above was hiring.

unconventional? yes. a little wild? probably, but lyria was never shy when it came to meeting new people, even those with questionable rumors surrounding them. still, she wasn't concerned about it, rumors were just rumors, and as she got to know ren better, she came to realize that she was right all along. that he was kind and empathetic, patient; if a bit silly at times, but that just made it easier for her to open up to him more as he taught her everything there is to know about coffee making. she's still working on asking sojiro to get a proper espresso machine, but one day her dream of making cute latte art will come true.

in the meantime, she focuses on brewing and serving, sometimes trying her luck in the kitchen, even if that's usually hit or miss. lyria has always been a little clumsy at times, but there's been an odd tickle in the back of her throat lately whenever she's at the cafe, a strange cough that comes and goes that she's written off as just a change in weather. but perhaps it's more than that though, as she stumbles a little on the way to the sink after clearing the last customer's table, setting the dishes down just in time to cover her mouth and stifle a hacking cough. when she pulls her hand away, a few red petals rest in the center of her palm, which she hastily hides in her apron pocket hopefully before anyone sees. ]
