Bodyguards and all that

the bodyguard shipping meme

You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.

And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.

Except for when the two of you break the bounds of professionalism and feelings begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy.

Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised?

How to Play
1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the guard, the guarded, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference.
2. Comment to others.
3. There are no prompts, because there are so many potential options there could be a hundred. Feel free to play anything: the beginnings of the relationship, just meeting, getting used to each other/not getting along at first, the obligatory first time, a threat on the protected's life and how their protector responds, how the feelings between the two has changed the protection, etc. Your only limit is you.

[Let me know if this works]

It's not quite a job. It's downtime really. Something to do in the intervening moments between one mission and the next. It's not their usual adrenaline fueled rush. It's the sort of war waged with paper and ink instead of swords and guns. It requires precision and skill and perhaps a bit more charm, but in the end it will get them what they need.

It's an easy thing. Walk into a country with no extradition treaty and remove a trafficker. Easy enough to go in guns blazing, but then they might never find out where this leads. This is a small fish and taking him is bait to flush the whale out of hiding.

Joe goes because he's the best fit for the profile of usual clients. He dredges up memories of a kingdom that doesn't exist anymore and soon, he's dressed in the flowing thawb and checkered turban and looking every inch the second prince of some small oil rich nation.

He plays the part well. He's all smiles and easy manners. He's spoiled after all and wishes to spend wealth on those things that should never be for sale. His only demand is the presence of his "guard".

"He is here not because I don't trust your security. It is because Father demands it and I must appease him. You understand." Looking very put out while the truth was that there was nothing that made his heart race more than the way his Niccolo loomed behind him. He need not be afraid. Not because it's not their time yet but because he knows he need not be armed. He has his other half right there.

Still, it is good to be put up in the nicest hotel in the area. It's such a change from the usual holes they stay in on missions. He is happy to step in and let Nicky sweep the room while he makes his calls. He likes to watch the man work.

"Yes. I believe they are looking into my kingdom now. It'll be fine. The ids should hold up to inspection. Don't worry boss. We've got this. I'll let you know if there's any problems but we should have the ringleader by the end of the two week window."

He looks to Nicky with a smile after he hangs up. "One week to catch him and one week to enjoy this. They've got a hot tub." He gives a wink he can't give outside that room. They have to dance that careful dance again. He hates it. "What's your take on the bait, Niccolo?"

[perfect, thank you!
happy to change anything!]

Nicky likes being Joe's second. It's easy, let Joe go in first, be flashy, be charming, be.... incredibly attractive, actually. The colors he's picked set off the sheen of his hair. Joe's doing the difficult work; all Nicky has to do is back him up, and after some of their missions, it's almost a relief to take things easy like that.

Not too easy, of course.

The two of them heal well, but ideally they won't get hurt in the first place, and Joe can't be armed, Joe can't check exits and lines of sight. Nicky needs to focus, needs to do what he does so that Joe can do what he does.

(And oh, it's always wonderful to watch Joe work.)

This is where they're supposed to be. This is what they're supposed to do. It's their time to find this man, and to find the shadow behind him.

"Hot tub. It's been a while," Nicky says back, pausing polishing his spare scope for the moment. He smiles. "I think you're doing an excellent job of appearing ripe for the picking, Highness. Not too difficult. Not too easy. The request for the meeting tomorrow afternoon should take us a step closer."

"The royal treatment." He teases, though it's very true. "Because of you. You make quite the impressive stoic guard. I feel very safe." He does and not just because they heal. It's because he doesn't have to have eyes everywhere. He trusts Nicky's.

Still, old habits bring him to the windows to look out. Never directly in front of them. He's off to one side, tugging the blinds back with outstretched fingers to look. Not for the view though it is beautiful, but because he is Nicky's spotter. He habitually scans the lines and the angles for those impossible sniper shots. Not just for them but for anyone who might have a target on them.

He lets the curtains fall back in place to pad to where Nicky is. He sits opposite so the man has room for his weapons maintenance. "Tomorrow. You are still okay with this? You know they will wine me and dine me and ply me with pretty ladies." And he will have to act accordingly. He's already prepared to avoid sexual encounters but he still has to flirt in front of the man who is his everything. It won't be easy.

Nicky softens as he looks up at Joe.

"Always the romantic," he says, utterly calm and utterly fond. One of the reasons his Joe, his Yusuf, means everything to him is how good the other man is at expressing himself. He trusts Joe, with his life, and more importantly, with his soul.

Joe looks through the window, from an angle as always. They're deep inside the complex, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Any of the staff here, as well as anyone who's infiltrated, could be seeking Joe in his guise as the prince. Joe is obviously satisfied enough for the moment, and comes to sit down with him.

Nicky makes a face at that, then meets Joe's gaze with a rueful expression. "I think I feel worse for you. I don't particularly enjoy seeing you do that... but I trust you. If you must have a lady in your lap, and if Andy is not here to take that role, then you have no choice."

He puts down the cloth, and reaches across the table to cover Joe's hand with his own.

"You bring out the best in me." He volleys back so easily. The care is always at the front of his voice. It's been hard to be so dismissive and inattentive to Nicky in public.

He takes the hand. He doesn't care if it's covered in gun oil. He lifts it to his lips to kiss each knuckle. "You know you are the only one for me. I will be thinking of you every second I must." He hopes it won't be too much. But a rich prince, a bored playboy, certain things were necessary.

"On the positive side, you do get to step in if 'father' wouldn't approve. Or if things get too dangerous. You saw it didn't you? For a leasure spot, they're rather heavily armed. If they aren't trafficking people, they're moving something. I'm thinking tonight, I'm going to thumb my nose at my upbringing and get very drunk. Find my way to the parking area. I want a better look at their fleet of vehicles."
