Bad End: Is it in bad taste to want to name this prompt after a certain comic book character? The worst of your fears has come to past. Another day, another raid on a HYDRA base. While Bucky ran cleanup with Thor it was up to Clint and Natasha to scout out the interior.

.. and it's never a good thing when even Natasha sounds a little rattled.

So Buck leaves Thor to it and heads inside, following Clint to an old cryotube. A tube holding his best friend. "Stevie."

A call is made to Hulk to carry it out and into the quinjet - they're going straight to medical and any debriefs will have to wait.

It wasn't as if they had never encountered one another before. They had initially met during the Crusades. They had been on opposing sides. His opponent was from Moorish Spain, he hailed from England. Opposites. Opponents.

They had clashed swords.

And again and again during the wars...

After the Crusades ended, he was in Venice when he ran into the man again. Literally. They bumped into one another. But instead of drawing weapons on another. Different things happened. They fell into bed with one another.

And then again and again during the years. They would always have dinner, they would always fall into bed. It was nice, to see a familiar face throughout the years. But how? How were they both still alive after all this time? Not having aged a day.

It was late in the Elizabethan era, he was in London.

Ben, as he was using now, was walking down the street, his hands clasped behind his back. There were people selling their wares, children running, animal noises. He gave a small smile as he stopped and purchased a meat pastry from a vendor he knew. He tried to frequent those he knew, those he respected.

Cassian had no real answers as to the the length of his long life. He simply lived - traveling, exploring, working, trying to do what was right.

He had seen war (pain and heartbreak and death) more times than he could remember. After a while, the details tended to run together and become blurred. But he always vividly remembered the Englishman that continued crossing his path time and time and time again.

Enemies turned ... well, Cassian hardly knew what to call he and Ben. More than casual acquaintances. Friends - he wasn't sure. Lovers, most definitely. Beyond that, he could not begin to say. Compatriots, perhaps.

But it was a relief to run across Ben from time to time - to talk and share stories, to have a meal and fall into bed together so familiarly. He didn't feel quite so alone when they inevitably found each other once more.

Cassian was in London, on assignment from his current employers, walking down a crowded street when he glanced up at just the right time and caught sight of a familiar profile. His lips twitched up into the hint of a smile as he silently followed, his voice low once he caught up to Ben at the vendor's stall, his breath wafting across the shell of his ear as he spoke.

"Do you suggest I try one, too?"
