an inexcusable smut meme

In a world not unlike our own (or in the past, or the future, or with magic), people...aren't just people. Somehow the species have been put in a blender - human civilization, certain animal traits and urges - and now, we're in for some fun. But at least society's managed this walk on the wild side pretty well so far. Admittedly, there's some tension between carnivore types and their herbivore fellow citizens (whether a lamb can be safe around a wolf with active meat-eating instincts is up for debate), though no place is perfect, right? There's harmony for the most part since everyone decided to shirk their more primitive instincts to live decently. Usually.

Except when matters of mating come onto the scene, of course.

Need I say more? Mostly, this serves as a shameless excuse to throw concepts like Beastars in with well-loved tropes like animal ears/tails, a/b/o, pet people, heat and rut, werewolfery, etc. And if I have to explain why I want to see characters like Geralt with wolf ears or Thor with a golden retriever tail, I won't apologize when I say it speaks for itself.

animal features focus: Less a prompt and more of an add-in to others, this option features heavy emphasis on animal characteristics like ears, tail, fur, scales, and teeth. Scritch-scratch. Forget the conventional, embrace unusual erogenous pinpoints.

first heat: Baby's first heat. YOU'RE A TEENAGER/LATE BLOOMER AND WHAT IS THIS?

old hand: You've done this a million times, but it never gets any easier.

happen to be here: You're not picky. You can't afford to be. You'll take anybody who's nearby.

old faithful: You're going to the person you always go to in order to relieve your problem.

worked something out: The two of you aren't involved. You just help each other out.

unexpected: You never expected to rut with this person, but here you are.

cross-species: Whether it be the socially acceptable carnivore/carnivore and herbivore/herbivore option or the taboo carnivore/herbivore combination.

mating: You've decided to go one step further and make your relationship deeper.

nesting: Aaah, (temporary) domestic bliss. And lots of fucking. Lots and lots of fucking. Like, you'll barely be able to stand.

rough: What it says on the tin. I wanna fuck you like an animal.

romantic: You and me baby ain't nothing but animals...so we can still feel the love tonight.

bonding: The bond, which is mildly psychic and intensely physical, makes sex even more intense.

the natural conclusion: Heat calls for pregnancy. Get someone pregnant.

already pregnant: Unfortunately, being knocked up doesn't abate your partner's desires. Or yours.

mates for life: Now you're absolutely certain that you want to be with no one else. Of course, this means you'll be in synch with their heat for the rest of forever.

save you: You've been saved from the advances of an undesired mate by someone who may be much more suited. Show your gratitude?

cockfight: Two people want the same mate. That won't do. There are ways to figure that out, not always involving fists.

increase in dominance: Exactly what it says.

increase in submission: Again, exactly what it says.

unexpected dominance: No one expects you to ever be dominant. Prove them wrong.

protect: You want to protect your mate from others, and that means putting your scent all over them.

set off by someone else: You were doing fine until you got a whiff of someone else's pheromones.

resisting temptation: Your heart belongs to someone. You want to stay out of this "heat" thing. You want to rise above it. Whatever it may be, you just have to not take the bait. Easier said than done.

all worked up: You're beginning to lose control and yourself. Quick, do something before you're jumping anything that moves.

pack: As mentioned prior, some people, especially those far out from civilization proper, have formed packs that hold to the more traditional alpha structure. Of course, these packs come with their own rules when it comes to heat and mating.

suitable partner: The desire for certain mates can come from a subconscious level, and you can find yourself aroused by someone showing how strong they are (they can protect you), how curvaceous they look (that must mean they're fertile), or any other number of traits that can benefit you. And now that you've found The One, you'll show off your own stuff. aka the presenting option.

desperation: You'll take anyone! Anything!

final release: You've reached your breaking point and your mindless. At least you'll get relief.

fighter: Part of your process is seeing who's worthy of you by testing their mettle. That, or you want to fight anything.

noncon: They don't want this. You don't want to stop this.

dubcon: You say no, but your body says yes and you can't stop loving it.

calm you down: Whether it's to fuck or to fight, you're going mad, and they have to bring you back down to Earth.

territorial: How dare someone look at what belongs to you? You'll have to make things right.

Edelgard canonically has experimentation in her past so willing to work with presenting as Alpha (or Beta)/Predator but in reality started life as Omega/Prey for Beastars | A/B/O AUs (of which I can work with multiple different societal structures if you're curious about a non-standard set up). For simplified pet person with standard Owner/Pet dynamics this could be run as either she was a pet person altered to pass as a normal human who intends to revolutionize the system, or a normal human altered to be a pet person and sold via black market to prevent her from inheriting her throne.

Animal options per your preference: Bird, Feline, or Sheep (with or without horns).

[ Dimitri is a lion - or at least he has the ears and a tail of one. It's made his relation with Edelgard a little strange, especially considering that she's a sheep. The horns are there for everyone to see, her pale hair usually neatly coifed or allowed to fall around them. Their relationship has been more than a little fraught. They've argued, they've been reluctant allies, they were friends. It's had it's ups and downs. Throughout it all, he's tried to maintain a bit of distance.

Even if he's found her scent far too appealing at times.

That changes one evening when he spies her surrounded by... admirers. Most notably male admirers. They might have a working relationship, but something in him flares up at the sight. His nostrils flare and his jaw clenches, ears pinned forward. He just manages to keep himself in check. Prevents himself from marching across the room right then and there. No; he can wait. For at least a little while. As soon as he sees her step out - perhaps for a bit of fresh air, perhaps to find something to drink, it doesn't matter - he follows. Practically looms over her as soon as they're alone, teeth still gritted.

He can smell her. It's driving him a little insane.

And here he is, trying to be at least a little proper. ]

What did they want?

[Edelgard had always been... hard headed. Though friends as children as the reality of the world and how it works began to truly impact their lives she and Dimitri grew apart because of their differences. In fact there are a handful of years where he never even got to see see her. He had inquired about it, but she dodged answering every time.

As two world leaders they often had to work together, but coming from opposite sides of the herbivore-omnivore-carnivore spectrum they often had their tiffs. And if Dimitri wasn't so immediately trusting of his childhood friend he might have noticed that sometimes odd things happen around Edelgard...

At the moment that is neither here nor there. He looms over her, and the Emepror's instinct immediately turns defensive. She goes rigid, and is ready to attack him the moment she turns around to protect herself—

Until she hears his voice. Ah, him again. Before turning around she steels her expression to face him. In her hand a peacock feather gifted to her from one of the men crowding around Edelgard earlier. Lorenz, of the Alliance, even went as far as to spritz it with his floral cologne. Honestly she found the gesture ridiculous, and came out here to get rid of it without being seen.]

...Good evening, Dimitri.

[She purposefully does not answer the question he posed.]

[ His eyes dart to the feather and his eyes narrow; he can smell the cologne on it. It's cloying and heavy and it makes him want to puke. He reaches out to snatch it out of her hand without thinking, tossing it to one side. He needs to get that scent away from him - away from her. He takes a step closer, looming over her. ]

You shouldn't even entertain them, you know.

[ As if it's his choice or his responsibility. ]

[Tempermental. Really, where did that sweet boy from her childhood go? Did puberty perhaps sink its fangs into him? Or was it the people who hid her away for about six years of her life — did they toy with him too? To ensure victory to their end goal? Perhaps she will know in the coming months when they intend for her to carry out their first move.]

It should not concern you who I do an do not entertain. Has the Lion King of Faerghus come out here just to bully a small sheep?

[ They've toyed with him in other ways; his parents, his family. He's lost people. A part of him doesn't want to lose her, either, even in something as banal as a relationship. But how can he just say that? ]

No! I'm not here to bully you-

[ He bares his teeth and then grinds his palm into his forehead with a low growl, tail lashing behind him. ]

It's them. You're so much better then they are! And - and I don't like them talking to you. Looking at you like that. [ Only I can do that, he wants to say. ]

Oh, so you think you know what is best for me. Want to tell me other ways to live my life? Are all lions as pushy as you?

[Honestly she thought him better than this. Does he perhaps think he knows better because he's an alpha predator? That perhaps he's more aware of people who might take advantage of her because of his position? How arrogant.

Edelgard tries side stepping around him.]

Why won't you listen?

[ Dimitri practically snarls the words and reaches out to snag her shoulder and tug her back. ]

They're getting in the way. [ As if he's ever mentioned any sort of interest before now. Maybe it's just a rush of hormones. Maybe he smells something on her. Maybe he's just possessive.

Whatever it is, he doesn't want them to lay hands on her or to even look at her. ]

The only thing in my way right now is you, Dimitri!

[Edelgard grabs at his wrist. Her strength may not match his, but when he feels her grip it may be surprising. A little lamb, naught but a sheep, with this strength? Oh, but he knows nothing of the fangs she must file down. The claws she is required to meticulously manicure.

She may not be able to crush his wrist, but she can lift his hand from her shoulder.]

Don't you get it-?

[ There's strength in her grip. A surprising amount, although he knows that she handles herself well. That she must have strength to be emperor. He pushes back with all of his bulk and weight, teeth gritted as he tries to keep her right here. ]

None of them can have you.

[ His voice has pitched low; something possessive. Almost a growl. There's a scent in the air; something new. It's masculine, bestial. ]

Only I can have you-! [ Not how he ever imagined admitting this sort of thing, but his head is a tangle of complicated emotions that he's nowhere close to sorting out. ]

[His scent hits her, and all she can think of is how she hates it. It calls to her — beckons her. Her body wishes to be drawn in by it, and yet it is also her body that sounds the alarm bells when she smells it. Because he is a threat. Strong, large — all teeth and muscle. He's a danger to her. And yet the piece of her that cringes every time she files her claws to nails wants to fight him. Tear him to pieces, grapple him, pin him until he surrenders to her. After all who is to say he can have her? That anyone can have her?

But he pushes back with all he has. While she is stronger than the average sheep because of how her body was altered he still holds more raw power than she does. She could best him in a strategy, or perhaps evenly match him with a weapon, but hand to hand? Edelgard is at the disadvantage. Dimitri not only keeps her from the door going back inside, but he pushes her toward the wall of the adjacent building.]

Have you gone completely mad, Dimitri!? Unhand me!

Why don't you understand? I just want what's best for you!

[ Another shove and he has her against the wall now. His head is low, nose almost buried against her neck as he breathes deep, tries to drink her scent down like it's wine. ]

You're driving me mad. [ Quieter, almost a groan. Every breath he takes makes his body tense and coiled. Like he's slowly losing his mind the longer he spends with her. ]

Don't tell me you don't feel it, too. I can smell you - and you can smell me. Edelgard, please, I can't let any of them look at you-

[ Maybe he is babbling a little now, but he has her framed against the wall with his body, his bulk blocking her in and shutting out the guttering torch and lamplight. His shadow looms long and dark over her and he's right - his scent is there, just as potent. But perhaps in a different way. ]

[And you can smell me. He's right. With every breath his natural odor fills her lungs. Heady, thick, sweet but also earthy. It smells like both a treat and a threat. An enemy and a lover. He complains of being driven mad, but Dimitri barely knows the half of it. Her warring blood screams to tear her in pieces. Run, fight, submit, defy, claw and bite, melt and concede — what should she do!? Pick a path and suffer for the choice either way.

He's so close and so tall, but she has never seen her size as a disadvantage. As he nuzzles against the curve of her neck she moves her head as if to duck away, but Edelgard is merely aiming. Using the wall as a support she pushes off it to ram those sturdy horns right into Dimitri's broad chest.]

[ There's a moment where he feels like this might turn - and then she headbutts him right in the chest. He chokes on his own breath and staggers back, struggling to breathe and gasping at the air. He wheezes something that might be her name, eye full of betrayal.

Why? ]

[This is it. Her chance. The predatory blood inside her compels Edelgard to reach out and grab a fistful of that mane he has. Slender fingers curl into that golden hair gripping like a vice. Should he not forsake his hair and rip free she'll intend to drag him further into the dark. Away from the alley between buildings that is lit. Away from the door of the conference hall that they had all gathered at.

She will drag him away with her strength. She will not let them be found.]

[ Dimitri hisses in pain - when did she get so strong? He tries to yank free of her grip, but he's still horribly winded, and so he stumbles after her into the alleyway, cursing all the while. ]

[Once they've turned a corner and are tucked away in a small back area where supply crates and barrels are. Whether for wine or for pickling is uncertain. Perhaps they'd be able to discern by smell if they were not so entranced by each other.

When Edelgard lets him go she hurls him at the ground. There is a wooden gate they stepped through on the way here, and with an angered backward kick she slams it closed - the metal latch clicking immediately. The lamplight from the building they were in is now gone. The only thing illuminating them now is the bright light of the full moon.

She stands there in the moonlight watching him to see how he rights himself from being thrown to the paved stone ground.]

What gives you the right to decide who looks at me?

[ By the time they're back in the corner, the gate swinging shut, he's finally able to get his breath back. He sprawls out on the stone floor and shoots an angry glare up at her, starting to climb back to his feet. He's not going to just sit here. ]

I was with you first. You really expect me to just watch as all of those others swarm around you and try to win your attention away from me?

[ If he were in his right mind he wouldn't be saying any of this. But he's keyed up, taut, mind addled by her scent. ]

I can't stand the thought of them... of you carrying their scent...

If that is how you frame it then Hubert and Ferdinand knew me first. Do you intend to cut through them to get to me? No, I will not let you. I will clear your head here and now. Stand tall, Dimitri, and face me. Or get on your knees and ask for forgiveness. It will be your choice.

[She stands not tall, but definitely striking. Most of her is cloaked in shadow, but her outline is that of silver. The moon's light almost making her glow. However unlike her fellow prey she sees just fine at night. Not naturally, but those six years they were apart did a lot to change her.]
