Happy 38th Birthday TRON
Welcome Programs, to the Free Grid!

a Tron-verse meme
Thanks to Kevin Flynn's sacrifice, Sam Flynn's sentimentality, Quorra's memory, and programming help from a handful of others (the younger Flynn determined not to make the same mistakes as the elder) The Grid has been rebuilt almost from the ground up, and repopulated with some programs he wrote himself, some that were written by Encom colleagues and others still by old CalTech friends (and friends of friends at other universities and think tanks and et cetera)
Some areas are still under construction, more sparsely populated than others, but the city center is thriving, there are The Games (now much less lethal) for the competitive-minded, the End Of Line Club for the partiers and The Archives for those who want to learn (or to impart knowledge) and various other venues (art galleries, shops of every stripe, vehicle mechanics and rentals, even casinos and smaller clubs.) Also the Park and it's resident swarm of Bits, they don't bite, but they might talk you to death.
The Train will get you basically anywhere you need to know, and runs all the time, no need to worry about it being out of service just because it's late. Light cycles are another popular mode of transportation, and the City isn't so big that it can't be walked.
Outside of the City is the Outlands all rugged terrain and cracked vistas. Beyond that is the Sea of Simulation which -now clean and virus-free once more- Sam hopes will begin to spawn ISOs as it once did. Beyond that is The Portal which is the way back to the real world, the realm of the Users.
Sometimes the Portal glitches, it's a known problem, nothing serious, really, just that it occasionally pulls in Programs from other versions of the Grid, other times in the Grid's history. It's a thing, and the new arrivals are generally found within short order and filled in on what's happening. System Monitors and a network of volunteers help with that.
Your character can be a native program, a transplant, even a visiting User, that's up to you. Tag around, get to know each other, have fun and try not to make the place too buggy, nobody wants to deal with that.

The street outside the facsimile of the Arcade was emptier than it was in the real world, but there was definitely traffic even just a block away, not a lot, but enough to make it all the more obvious that they weren't where they'd started.
She took a half-step back, spreading both arms, grin wide, "Welcome to the Grid. Downtown Tron City to be specific."

Lora felt old, how the hell did that happen? When did that happen? She had no idea but stepping into Flynn's with the lights and sounds of games buzzing around her and the hordes of teens shuffling for positions at the controls, she felt very old.
Where the hell was... of course, he'd be at the console with the biggest groups of gawkers. Except he wasn't, someone else was stick there, leaving Lora to wander around the place looking for her ex. Wandering around until she worked her way to his flat upstairs. "Hey, Kev? You here?"
She crested the stairs and frowned, where the hell was he?
/sobs sorry so late!!
But he knew it wasn't right. It was when he'd left. That shouldn't be possible. None of it made sense, and yet all of it did.
He didn't hear the familiar voice calling to him. He was sitting on his bed, legs crossed, finding peace in the din of the arcade below. Once she explored further into the flat she'd find him there.

She finally reached the top of the stairs and saw a form on the bed. "Jesus, you scared the crap out of me. You could at least say something you know." Lora hustled over dropping her purse and jacket into a beanbag chair as she passed it.
As shed drew closer and the shade of the room gave way to the partial street light and neon from the arcade below she finally saw him, she drew up short. This wasn't Flynn, this was an older man, maybe his father?
"Whoa, who are you?"

When he saw Lora his eyes widened and his face broke into a very familiar grin. "Lora!" He pushed himself to his feet and moved to wrap her in a tight hug. "It is me. Flynn. God it's been so long!"

"Oh my god, Flynn? What happened? We just talked last week. What's going on?"
