Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

He'd known it would happen eventually... he simply didn't expect it to be like this. Broken, cast aside, ridiculed, worse...

It wasn't like Sheik to wander the plains like this, his steps aimless and his expression vacant. To the casual passerby, he might even seem some strange spectre. Those who cared to look closer would spot something stranger still, though. Mostly hidden beneath the flowing cloth he wore, a bruise snaked up one side of Sheik's face, and a bit of blood stained his clothes in places.

The rest Jack had deduced from eavesdropping and sending the winds out, not just the north wind that was his usual companion but all of them, corralling them into searching anywhere it could blow. Now they reported that they had found her and his hand clenched around his hooked staff tightly, sharp sparks of ice and blue light snapping from its surface.

When he finally finds her, he's gone through a half dozen guards, none of which who could see him but all of whom knew only the plummeting temperature as their last thought as all 70% of their liquid body mass froze solid. Jack puts his hands on either side of her face. ]

[Gwen was in a peaceful sleep, lying beside her husband in bed with a small smile on her lips. She always sleeps well when Arthur is there beside her. However, tonight she is woken up from her sleep by Arthur moving in the bed beside her. He is tossing and turning and murmuring to himself. She frowns as she looks at him, he is clearly having a nightmare of some kind. She cannot see him like this any longer so she reaches out and places a hand on his arm, shaking him ever so slightly, concerned.]

Link was exhausted. Being a hero wasn't easy, especially when it became apparent that the whole burden of saving everyone and everything was just on your own shoulders.

Well, maybe not. There were others fighting along with him. The sages were doing their part, and Sheik was helping him too.

Though now that he was trying to tell himself this, it wasn't very convincing. Maybe it was some kind of shadow that was clinging to him from when he had gone through the last temple. Whatever it was, he was getting increasingly overwhelmed with this "destiny" that was thrown on him, and he was tired of it.

At the moment, Link was approaching the graveyard just outside Kakariko Village. He gave out a long sigh and trudged his way inside. It was starting to rain now, but Link plopped down against the plaque honoring the Sheikah regardless. His entire body felt heavy. He couldn't help but wonder if Sheik also felt like this.

[How a girl who was raised in 100% all-American suburbia managed to get herself completely lost in the thick jungle of confusion that was Sweden, was anyone's guess. She had promised to be back at the hotel within an hour, but even a little clumsy studying of her English-to-Swedish dictionary didn't help her much in finding her way. One hour turned to two, and now a few hours had turned to night. She had a cell phone drained of charge, and not even enough spare change for a bus, even if she knew which direction to go. And she didn't speak a word of Swedish.

Hayley was quickly getting sick of this place. She couldn't even ask directions with her perfected, stupid "girl-next-door" smile when there was a communication barrier this thick, and the cold was biting at her through the thin fabric of her jacket. Her teeth were chattering softly, and her short hair did nothing to warm her numb cheeks.

Thank god she recognized the iconic golden arches of McDonald's across the street. Good old fast food; even if she couldn't buy anything to eat, staying inside meant shelter and warmth. She kept her head low as she opened the door, discreetly ignoring the 'no loitering' sign to slide into a seat near the back.

After another furtive glance, it was easy to see there weren't very many customers around. In fact, aside from her, it seemed like there was just one other person. Hayley couldn't make out their expression, but from the profile she could tell, almost instinctively, that she didn't exactly belong either. The girl had enough piercings to scare off any decent person, dressed in black leather that made her look more at home in the shadows than beneath the neon lights of a fast-food joint.

[As Castiel is sleepless, and always has been sleepless, it's only natural that he ends up watching over the others as they settle in for the night -- the last night they might ever experience, seeing how they're taking Lucifer on the next day.

It takes everyone some time to put all the liquor away, to set up the beds and get into them, but after that there's a steady silence. It's interrupted, at times, by someone getting up to use to the restroom, or by someone shifting in sleep or snoring, but...

Jo is the one who doesn't fall asleep in the first place, who tosses and turns. Castiel keeps a close eye on her, though from a distance, and frowns when he watches her step out of bed and head out of the cabin they're holed up in.
