It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they?

o p t i o n s 01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet. 02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops. 03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it. 04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them... 05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. 06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help? 07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on. 08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them. 09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you. 10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario. |

There were plenty of nights that Alex couldn't sleep. There were plenty of reasons why Alex couldn't sleep. Then there were the nights that fell into none of those and he still couldn't sleep. It was just chasing the impossible. Like it was then.
He was raiding the kitchen for something to do. Might as well eat something and if he happened across a beer well... that was a bonus. He pulled out bits to make himself a sandwich and found a beer at the same time. He quickly made up a sandwich and put the bits he didn't need back in the fridge, knocking open the beer against the corner of the counter top as he closed the door. He sat himself back down at the kitchen table to eat because that was a distraction. After that he'd probably end up heading to the danger room. If he exhausted himself that would mean sleep? Right...
It was better than worrying about everything then.

If he happened across a beer before Logan somehow managed to get his claws on it, that was definitely a lucky night for anyone of legal drinking age. Not that they usually kept beer around since, you know, it was a school and all. But, sometimes? Sometimes one never hurt and sometimes Scott allowed it if it was tucked away well enough.
But the concerns over whether or not a beer was missing from the fridge wasn't what was keep Scott up himself and when he happened to come across someone else who had the same idea in terms of how to handle this whole being unable to sleep thing, he can't even find himself all that surprised that it happens to be Alex.
"That better not be the last one," he mutters as fingers card through his hair, a gesture given to the beer Alex has for himself. "Or- actually, I hope it is." Just to annoy Logan when he goes looking for one and has to settle on soda yet again.
"Didn't even make me one?" Because that sandwich looks pretty darn good behind those rosy glasses of his.

The beer he takes a pull from him, because he's determined not to share it. "I don't know if it's the last one. They're always hidden so you can never really tell. Kinda tough if it is." Alex gave a little laugh at that. He liked to live dangerously with that.
"You can't sleep either I take it?" There was a little piece of Alex that hated that they were both having sleep related issues. But on the flip side to that he was glad he had company. It was a complicated thing to balance.

Having to constantly wear ruby quartz glasses lest you blow a hole through wherever it is you're staring, Scott's eyes are always and forever concealed from others. But that doesn't stop the roll of his eyes from happening at the comment over the beer. It's... fine. Not like he'd rat his brother out anyways and so long as they're constantly hidden, it's... fine; Scott still has that whole being a stick in the mud thing at times.
"What was your first clue?" The words are asked into a fist as he swallows, another bite of his sandwich taken quickly after. "Just a lot on my mind I guess," a beat, he looks his brother over. "What's your excuse?"

The glasses don't stop Alex knowing that Scott is rolling his eyes at him. It's a brother thing. He knows. He doesn't comment on it. Which is the most surprising thing. Probably that he's too tired to have an actual argument then. Tired but can't sleep is the worst combination with a bit of a temper, no one wants Alex to lose control.
"That you ate the sandwich without much complaint. You must actually want to sleep but can't, if you were just awake there would be more interrogation about what I'd potentially done to it." Alex shrugged, but Scott had an answer he might not have actually wanted. One that was well reasoned and made sense.
Alex picked at the label on the beer bottle. "Particularly nasty nightmare. Didn't feel like going back to sleep right away. I didn't want..." He shook his head. He'd said too much. He didn't need pity right then. He stopped picking at the label and took another drink. Not that he suspected it would help, one singularly wouldn't anyway. But it took the edge off.
