( what you can never have )

When two people come together in a relationship, it's a beautiful thing. What can be wrong with love, right? Right? Except when the union is completely and totally wrong, for whatever reason. Then things can get a little messy.
How To Play
1. Comment with your character, listing their name, canon, etc, along with any preferences. 2. Comment around to others, using the RNG to determine the scenario. It doesn't have to be a lovey-dovey relationship, obviously. There can be hate, sorrow, lust, whatever. 3. Thread! Have fun! Do things!
Scenarios
1. Warring Factions: You belong to rival organizations, armies, clubs, etc. Whatever it is, you're not on the same team.
2. Soldiers on the Battlefield: Or maybe you are on the same side, but this is the wrong time and the wrong place. Plus, attachments cause distractions.
3. Bodyguard and the Guarded: Just like the movie with Kevin Costner! One of you has been hired to protect the other for some reason, and feelings are starting to grow. Are you a professional and cut things off, or do you give in?
4. Prince/ss and Knight: Similar to the above, but with a whole 'nother level of wrong...one of you is royal. Courtly love is okay; still, don't forget your place.
5. Enemies: This vendetta is personal, and you totally hate this person! Don't you? Perhaps you're maybe just rivals, or something as serious as superhero and villain.
6. Family: The ultimate taboo. This person is related to you, so there's no way you should indulge this desire, even if it's the most pure love there ever was.
7. Age Difference: The years between you should keep you both at bay, but it's easier said than done.
8. Teacher/Student: Teachers and students have a unique bond, and to corrupt it is a dangerous thing. Will you dare to act on emotions that could put you both in a destructive place?
9. Already Spoken For: One or both of you are already involved with someone else, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Just know that you can't have your cake and eat it, too.
10. Not Compatible: Your personalities or jobs make it so it's hard for you to be together.
11. Not Compatible...in Another Way: You're both different species, which means you're either afraid to take your relationship to a physical level or you can't because of differences in biologies.
12. Not Ready for Love: You took a vow (or celibacy, of chastity, of dedication), you're married to your work, or you just don't want to be involved with anyone. Too bad!
13. Rich and Poor: One of you has the money while the other is from more modest means. Can the 1% and the 99% ever be bedfellows, literally?
14. Hurt Before: Your heart has been broken, and maybe there's been no time to heal. But here you are.

Of course I'm not scared. Nothing you could do would ever make me afraid of you.
Blake felt those words come back to leave a bitter taste in her mouth. She had been so desperate to prove herself. She still was. Whatever scruples there were over methods, their cause was just. She had left her home and parents behind because she believed in this. It had just been a rough couple of weeks. If there had been violence it was only in response to the violence aimed at them.
Right?
She clenched her fists. Then why did she feel like this? She picked up a book hoping to distract herself. Then she saw that it was not a title that would leave her feeling any better and she tossed it aside in frustration. She needed a walk. She pushed back the flap of her tent, squinting at the lowering sun. Adam would be back soon. He's said he wanted to talk to her. Maybe she'd run into him on her walk, but she couldn't sit around waiting any longer. Her anxiety was eating her insides.

Adam never took it well when missions went sideways. He hated to lose, especially if that loss was to the SDC. A team of eight went in, but a team of six made it out, and the fate of the other two was still a mystery. Everyone knew to leave Adam alone during these times, as he took out his rage and frustrations on the countryside.
He'd love to take it out on the humans, but... Sienna had her rules. Adam would obey.
If Blake followed the newest path of destruction, she'd find Adam at the end of it. By now, he had burned through all of his anger, and was in a more reflective mood as he stood atop of a hill, watching the sun set. His mask was in his hand, something that he was rarely seen without these days, but it also meant that something very heavy was on his mind. She might want to be careful with her approach.

Blake was not most people.
When she got closer she saw that he had his mask off. She'd only seen him like that one time. That night at the rally when she first met him. No one was supposed to see. She was probably the only person who had in a long time had. That meant whatever mood he was in he was extremely vulnerable. She padded up to him quietly knowing that he probably already heard her coming. By now they knew each others footsteps. She didn't say anything to him at first. She just stood there in solidarity and silence. Sometimes it was just better to wait for him to speak.
"Are you okay?" she finally asked after some minutes had passed.
no subject
Even after she spoke, he didn't initially respond. But when he finally did... he shifted his gaze away from her.
"You should leave." The words burned his throat as he spoke them, but it was for the best. The way things were going she'd... it'd be safer if she left. "Go back home to your family."
no subject
"That's pretty dramatic," she murmured. " You can't really have told me to meet you just to tell me that. Especially since you know it would be a waste of your time. What brought this on?"
If he really meant what he said, he would have at least looked at her. At least his mask hadn't gone back on which meant that for now the wall that was usually up was at least partially down. It was hard to tell at times with Adam.
no subject
"You're not ready," he told her. Normally, if they were going to have that argument, it would be centered around her unwillingness to kill, or perhaps Adam's all-too-willingness to kill. But this was something different. "And you'll never be ready.
"I can't afford to carry you through missions anymore." Turning his back to her, he put his mask back on, and started to walk back towards the camp. "Pack your things, someone will arrange transport for you."
no subject
"Absolutely not," she stated, planting her feet and glaring at him. "You have a right to your opinion and if you think that little about someone you personally trained..."
She stopped. This wasn't about sentiment. Or getting personal. Well, it was, but it wasn't the part she wanted to focus on because that part could too easily get messy.
"But that's all you have a right to. You don't get to make that choice for me. If you don't want me in your branch I'll transfer to another."
She and Ilia worked well together. Maybe she would go with. But if Adam wanted to pull this crap out of nowhere she was going to call his bluff. She wasn't going to cry and cling and beg to stay.
no subject
"You'd dare defy me?" This wasn't a matter of a simple transfer. She needed to not be involved in the White Fang anymore at all. Why couldn't she just be obedient and listen to him?!
"I've already made that choice for you. We've already lost two good people today and I won't--" He stopped himself, not wanting to say the words I won't risk losing you! It pained him how important Blake had become to him. Not just as a member of the organization, but just personally to him. But rather than admit that, he scoffed, once again turning his back on her.
"Your time as part of the White Fang is over."
no subject
"You won't what?" she demanded, stalking over to him and standing in front of him so that he would have to face her.
He didn't get to say all of this bullshit if he couldn't even look at her.
"You won't do what I do?" she snapped. "You won't live with the anxiety that I feel every time you go off on missions and take risks that frankly, you only get away with because of rank? Think you're the only one afraid of losing people? You might might have brute strength, but I'm better at stealth and planning escape routes - what happens when I'm not there to stop you from doing something dumb?"
Her voice cracked a little betraying her vulnerability.
"So yes I'm defying you," she asserted.
It wasn't smart, but she had rarely been this pissed off at him. Besides, if she couldn't stand up to one of her own he'd just be right. She was just some kid who needed to throw in the towel and go home if she couldn't even defend her right to stay.
no subject
This is why she had to go.
"I didn't train you just to watch you get captured or killed."
no subject
This was what she believed in and what she knew. She wasn't going to just abandon a cause she had grown up in. Though her heart did soften a little. Adam's rant wasn't entirely motivated by selfishness. He didn't want her to get hurt. She felt absurdly warm about that for some reason.
"Why did you train me, then?" she asked, quietly.
Not to sit at home safely, that was for sure.
"Or don't you you trust the training you gave me to keep me safe?"
no subject
"These missions aren't going to get any easier. Atlas is developing better weapons by the day. And human cruelty hasn't changed one bit." He finally turned around to look at her and...
...and its fortunate that he was wearing the mask.
"I won't risk your safety.
"...I won't risk you."
no subject
"Since when don't you take risks?" her tone was light, but there was something more intense going on behind her eyes.
She knew he could see her look mask or not. She wished he wouldn't hide behind it. She hadn't run the first time she saw him and she wasn't going to now.
no subject
Yet another reason he needed her gone.
But at her question, he gave her an honest answer. He couldn't do anything but, at this point.
"Since I have something too important to lose."
no subject
"We all have important things to lose," she replied, with soft sincerity. "Why do you think we are here? I joined because I was tired of watching other Faunus risk themselves while I stayed in a bubble. Why should I get to go home and be safe? I'm not special."
A jolt did settle in her stomach at the implication of his words, though she was probably reading too much into it. He wouldn't look at her that way. As much as Adam tried to act aloof and above his feelings she was one of his only friends here.
no subject
"That's where you're wrong." Hesitating for a moment, his other hand finally let go of his sword, and he reached for her, placing a hand on her cheek. "You are special."
no subject
Her eyes widened as her gaze met his masked one. This was the frustrating thing about Adam Taurus. He could act like such a cold jerk and then turn around and say something like that ruining her ability to stay well and truly angry. She leaned slightly into the unexpected gentle gesture.
"So are you. And you're not quitting."
no subject
"No one will miss me when I'm gone." He was a monster, after all, even if she didn't realize that fact just yet.
no subject
She scrutinized his face trying to decide whether he meant that or was just acting tough.
"I would," she said.
She didn't care if it were appropriate to say so or not. He needed to hear it. Someone needed to say it to him. At least once.
no subject
"All the more reason for you to go." She really was too good for him. One day she'd wake up and see it.
no subject
She was beginning to wonder if she had done something to make him change his opinion on her. If being 'special' meant he also thought less of her then she didn't want that.
"And I already told you: I'm staying."
If there was one thing she could match him on it was stubbornness.
no subject
"I'm trying to protect you! Nothing good will come of you staying here."
no subject
She withdrew. It was insulting. She was not some kid....even if she felt irrationally rejected right now.
"It won't be your problem anymore. I'll figure out what to do on my own from here."
She turned to stomp away. She really would ask Sienna for that transfer and maybe she'd get a mentor who didn't have mood swings. That was she was thinking with each angry step.
