[ Most people would never guess that Richie Tozier, king of stand-up and master of 'your mom' jokes, went to therapy. Then again, most people also had no idea he was screwing guys on the regular, so it's not as though he hasn't got other secrets. Like how he's fallen into drinking to escape the weird, hollow feeling in his chest, and how he's never had a committed relationship because something makes him push people away when they start getting too close.
AA is just another secret. He goes to the meetings at a group the next town over, so there's less chance he'll be recognized. It's a surprise, but there are actually some interesting people there, not just the group of pathetic middle-aged men Richie expects to see (and vehemently denied he was part of). A decent amount are younger, or at least closer to his age, and they all have their own reasons to do what they do. It's not a happy place, exactly, but as he attends more meetings Richie finds himself relaxing a little, feeling more comfortable opening up to these mostly-strangers.
James stands out from the rest. He's young, but he seems haunted by some terrible thing. Or maybe Richie's just imagining it; he's fucked up enough to know he isn't always the best judge of character. Either way, though, they get closer, share their struggles with the steps, talk about whatever show they're going to watch when they get home.
And then one night Richie takes James home, and they definitely don't watch TV. ]

[ He's got one hand curled around James' thigh, his eyes wide and dark as he stares up at the other man from between his legs. He's been doing his best to give up drinking, but it seems he'll never get away from these sorts of trysts. ]
You look amazing, [ he breathes out, his eyes tracing a line down from the other man's face to his chest, then his abdomen, then his groin. They're still dressed, but Richie can already feel his jeans tightening, and he knows he won't be able to stay clothed for much longer. ]
