Somehow, through luck or careful planning or both, he'd managed to keep this particular present a secret, and the fact that he'd actually gotten it finished in time for an anniversary was even better.

Abe waited until Henry had gone for his evening walk to bring the chair in from where he'd been keeping it in the shed. It was one that had been Henry's favorite once upon a time, before age and improper storage had damaged it. But that wasn't the sort of thing to deter Abe, who had taken care of the sanding, refinishing and re-fitting parts himself, and had taken it to a professional to get the seat and back reupholstered.

He'd calculated that if Henry took the same length of time for his walk that he usually did, Abe would have just enough time to swap the repaired chair for the one that Henry currently had in the sitting room they usually settled in to read or talk for a while before bed.

He had apparently been right in that calculation, given as how he was just settling down into his own chair when he heard Henry returning and did his best to hide his smile, focusing instead on the book in his hands.

Henry comes in he had gone to pick up a few books for himself and Abraham, these weren't for the shop, but for them to just enjoy and read. He closes the door behind him nose already in one of the books, a collection of Shakespeare's sonnets this edition had a few they didn't have in their collection as of yet. "Abraham I think you'll enjoy something I found in a shop on the way home." He says closing the book, his eyes falling on the chair making his smile, his eyes flick over to Abraham's affection flashing through his eyes and lingering.

The chair was one of his favorites one that he had always found most comfortable to curl up with a book in. He never really found an adequate replacement for it. He moves over to Abraham and leans in for a soft kiss. "Very thoughtful Abraham." He smiles slipping the book of sonnets into Abraham's hands. "Happy day we met." He laughs softly.

He just smiled as he angled his head up into that kiss, fingers falling to mark his place on the page he was reading reflexively, though he just smiled at the statement, "Mm, indeed, and who would have thought it would come to this?"

He looked down at the book Henry had brought, brightening, "Ah, newly annotated." He had discovered a few years back that he enjoyed seeing how annotations changed and evolved with the language itself and with new understanding of old turns of phrase. He doubted there would be anything revolutionary in a new edition annotated Shakespeare, but that wasn't going to stop him from enjoying it all the same, "It will make a fine addition to the collection."

Henry looks thoroughly amused for a moment, "If by newly you mean from a 100 years ago." He chuckles, "But then that's not much time for us, it's one you don't have yet." He pushes his fingers through Abraham's hair.

He presses his forehead to Abraham's and lets out a slow unneeded breath. "I am very fond of you, Mr. President." He smirks.

"Newer than the one we currently have." He amended even as he lifted a hand to trail his fingers through Henry's hair in return, since he didn't seem to be planning on moving anytime soon, which was just fine with Abe.

He tilted his head to press a quick kiss to the corner of Henry's mouth, "I hope the brocade's alright, the original pattern hasn't been manufactured since the late twenties, so I had to decide on a substitute." It was similar enough, though the colors were different, "Because as it stands I'm quite fond of you as well, and I rather enjoy keeping you happy."
