She hates him.

That much is abundantly clear. She's said it enough times to his face, announced it like an earned accolade to everyone she could behind his back, and over the years she's showed it to him in many varied violent ways. The stabbings, the murder(s), the recent shin-kick and the countless looks that could kill.

It still is clear even under circumstances where it might appear a little murky. Like this one, right now, where Claire has managed in her high heels and impressive determination to pull Sylar down by his neck mid-argument closer to her level so she could press her mouth against his and kiss him.

It isn't their first kiss. But it is the first time she's been, well, willing.

He'd shown up again after her repeated attempts to get him to leave her alone. She knew he must have fancied himself her protector with all of the threats and attempts on her lately, and just because he'd saved her the one time ~~that she knew of~~ didn't entitle him to any of her time or much less her appreciation. The last time he'd shown up at one of her public engagements it took everything in her to not stab him in front of reporters with the scissors she used to cut the ribbon to the Evo Community Center. That was two weeks ago. Tonight she'd just finished a disastrous interview where she'd been gotcha'd about some of the more complex and problematic Evo policies the administration had started sneaking into bills. She played it off as best as she could with her bright smile and sparkling dress but the minute she was backstage, well.. Sylar was an easy and admittedly convenient target for her failings.

He'd been halfway through some barbed retort to her ever-present hostility and although she is filled to the brim with that aforementioned hate, there's also despair there too. Maybe a little bit of relief. Though it's less clear if the relief is from getting him to shut up or the kiss itself.

It's not a gentle kiss. Or sweet. Or kind. But it's certainly purposeful, and like almost everything the ex-cheerleader and current worldwide celebrity does, it's full of fire and a healthy helping of pain.
