What you can never have

( what you can never have )

When two people come together in a relationship, it's a beautiful thing. What can be wrong with love, right? Right? Except when the union is completely and totally wrong, for whatever reason. Then things can get a little messy.

How To Play

1. Comment with your character, listing their name, canon, etc, along with any preferences.
2. Comment around to others, using the RNG to determine the scenario. It doesn't have to be a lovey-dovey relationship, obviously. There can be hate, sorrow, lust, whatever.
3. Thread! Have fun! Do things!

Scenarios

1. Warring Factions: You belong to rival organizations, armies, clubs, etc. Whatever it is, you're not on the same team.

2. Soldiers on the Battlefield: Or maybe you are on the same side, but this is the wrong time and the wrong place. Plus, attachments cause distractions.

3. Bodyguard and the Guarded: Just like the movie with Kevin Costner! One of you has been hired to protect the other for some reason, and feelings are starting to grow. Are you a professional and cut things off, or do you give in?

4. Prince/ss and Knight: Similar to the above, but with a whole 'nother level of wrong...one of you is royal. Courtly love is okay; still, don't forget your place.

5. Enemies: This vendetta is personal, and you totally hate this person! Don't you? Perhaps you're maybe just rivals, or something as serious as superhero and villain.

6. Family: The ultimate taboo. This person is related to you, so there's no way you should indulge this desire, even if it's the most pure love there ever was.

7. Age Difference: The years between you should keep you both at bay, but it's easier said than done.

8. Teacher/Student: Teachers and students have a unique bond, and to corrupt it is a dangerous thing. Will you dare to act on emotions that could put you both in a destructive place?

9. Already Spoken For: One or both of you are already involved with someone else, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Just know that you can't have your cake and eat it, too.

10. Not Compatible: Your personalities or jobs make it so it's hard for you to be together.

11. Not Compatible...in Another Way: You're both different species, which means you're either afraid to take your relationship to a physical level or you can't because of differences in biologies.

12. Not Ready for Love: You took a vow (or celibacy, of chastity, of dedication), you're married to your work, or you just don't want to be involved with anyone. Too bad!

13. Rich and Poor: One of you has the money while the other is from more modest means. Can the 1% and the 99% ever be bedfellows, literally?

14. Hurt Before: Your heart has been broken, and maybe there's been no time to heal. But here you are.

Abe hated the idea of coming out of hiding to help Henry. He didn't want to be part of anything related to vampires any more, but when he got word that his friend was pinned down he couldn't help himself. He did what he always seemed to do when Henry was in trouble. He went to help against his own better judgement and went off to help.

It was in his nature to put himself on the line to save mortal, no matter how much it drove Abe insane, much like he let Nikola test the X-ray on him. The mud is sticky, cold, and up to his knees. He'd pulled a boy from the razor wire, the kid panicked and took off as the mustard gas started to fill the pit, and fires from mines started going around him. He'd lost his sunglasses at some point and his eyes burned from the sunlight drifting through the gas and smoke.

Abe strode through the mud and bodies like a tall ghost as he hunted for Henry. He could smell him on the wind and it doesn't take him long to stand over his friend shaking his head. "You are an idiot sometimes," he says in that tone that carries equal amounts of fondness

Henry is covering his eyes with one forearm, he can smell Abe coming, that idiot should have just saved himself. His lips twitch a little and he pulls Abe lower into the fox hole, "You are still freakishly tall, and I do not want you getting your head blown off for a second time thank you very much." Henry quips back, "That young man I just saved, Humphry," he pauses a beat, "Bogart, is going to do very important things." He huffs, but then that had always been his particular skill not Abe's, he muses as another mortar shell goes off near bye, the level of violence inductive of the ending of a conflict.

Abe shakes his head. "Still risking your neck for humans who won't thank you later," he says folding his limbs something close to comfort in this muddy hell hole.

"As I recall, you were one of those pesky humans... that I pulled out of the water, could have just let you drown." He says as the battlefield falls quite, not the peaceful quiet, no not at all, the sounds of the dying surround them, boys of 16 and 17 calling out for their mothers. Henry shoves his hand into his pocket and pulls out the one spare pair of sunglasses he had on him. "We need to go help the ones we can." He murmurs watching the very human, and very young medics scramble out of the muddy pit to get to the wounded.

If they were alone Henry would kiss Abe right now, not caring about the muck and mud, when this was over he didn't want to see another war for a long time, but deep down in his gut, he knew there wouldn't be a long reprieve, it was not yet in the nature of humans.

Abe sighed and stood up glancing over the battlefield trying to use his senses to find wounded worth saving. It kept him from checking Henry over and making sure he was alright. Now was not the time or place for that and he was supposed to be angry with his sire anyway.

It's depressing work even for those like Henry and Abe, they manage to save a few. It takes them a long time to get back to Paris and find someplace where they can clean up and rest.

Henry pulls his shirt off, there is some kind of chemical burn on his side, healing slowly, showing that the older vampire needs to feed. "I am very glad this war is winding down."

Abe sighs again and sits next to Henry making a clear offer with a tilt of his neck knowing how stubborn Henry can be. "And how long until the next one," he replies his tone a bit sharp. "and then the next....war will never completely stop."

"You have your own healing to do," he says trying to keep the soiled clothes to one corner but is eyeing Abraham's neck, more for the closeness and comfort than healing the wound on his side.

"Shower first there is still dirt in places I would rather their not be, a bath would be lovely, but that is not a commodity we have right now." He says stretching a little, fingers tracing around his wound while studying it.

"Does this place even have a shower," Abe grumps quietly "And you should eat first so you don't pass out the second you stand up."

"You have healing to do too my dear." He says nodding at the curtained off area, "I would rather shower and not get the bed any grimier than it is and then feed." He snorts a little, leaning against Abe, inhaling. "You seem more upset than you normally are after a battle. "Treaties are being signed we can go home, New York? Or somewhere else?"

"And I will once I'm sure you're taken care of," Abe says in his tone firm. He knows Henry will always put him first and Abe is just not having that right now, "I won't hear of anything else."

Henry briefly wrinkles his nose but only for a flicker of a moment. He concedes though, "Look at you getting all commanding." He sighs kissing Abraham. "But fine." He nods he might fight it but he's grateful at times when Abraham gets like this.

Henry strips his filthy clothes off kicking them to a corner away from the bed, blood, and dirt soaked through the clothing.

He pulls back the 'curtain' from around the shower, that is just a shower head a drain in the floor, and a barrier to keep the water from going all around the room. The water doesn't get warm, but it's not ice-cold. He walks over to his gear bag and pulls out the bar of soap that at best has a wash and a half left in it.

He wrinkles his nose as he steps under the spray, and starts to scrub himself down. "Do we have any clean clothes in either of the packs?"

Abe goes to both their gear bags and makes a face when he realizes the answer is a flat no. "No," he calls back with a put upon sigh. "Which means going out to feed is out of the question unless we want to become thieves on top of everything else." He makes a face, he's not the biggest fan of hunting but rat blood isn't filling.

As Henry washed the grime and blood off of his body, he has to concede even if it's not out loud Abraham is right he needs to feed to heal properly, the wound in his side isn't closing as it should. He's in no shape to hunt.

"Abraham..." He huffs, "I am sure we can find clothes without becoming thieves." He points out, "It's still early and we have money, also as much as I am loathed to admit it, I am in no shape to hunt, you need to come back fed and well if possible." He sighs.

Abe nods. "I don't mind putting my clothes back on," he says, "people will be more likely to help a soldier that looks a little rougher than he should. My shower can wait for a bit. We need clean clothes and blood more than I need to smell better."

"I should go with you, wound, or not." He says turning off the water, and coming out picking up a mostly clean towel off the rickety chair and drying himself patting around the still open wound on his side. "Shouldn't have to do the work yourself." He says easily, moving over to his mud caked uniform. The gas lamps in the room flickering, droplets of blood falling from his wound, at times his love of Abraham overtook his own self-preservation. (see the john Wilks Booth incident, see breaking the rules to turn Abraham.) Maybe it's the fact Abraham has only been a vampire 55 years, more likely it's a deep love.
