Sentinels and Guides are Known:
A Sentinel!AU Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
There are special people in the world: Sentinels--whose five senses are incredibly enhanced, sometimes to the point of overwhelming and who can easily lose themselves in fugue states--and Guides, the empaths with the ability to ground a Sentinel and focus them. Meant to be the protectors of the Guides, for every Sentinel there exists a guide that is their perfect match. In some universes, when matches are made, a Sentinel and Guide form a soulbond to fill the feeling of emptiness.
How easy was it for you to find yours? How are Sentinels and Guides treated in your universe? Or maybe you're one of the normal, unremarkable people. Do you fear Sentinels and Guides? Despise them?

Prompts
oo1. The Meeting:
How did you meet? Was it at an event organized specifically for finding your other half? By accident? Did you follow a mystical calling to them? Some other way?
oo2. The Bonding:
Do Sentinels and Guides in your universe soulbond? How does it go down? Is there a ceremony or do you just retreat to the bedroom?
oo3. Rejection:
Sometimes Sentinels or Guides propose a match but it's just not perfect. You don't feel the pull or maybe you think there is someone better or maybe you're already claimed. Maybe you were claimed and someone better came along?
oo4. Protection:
Sentinels are meant to protect Guides, any Guides, but it's even worse when they feel their Guide is in danger. They go feral; blind to anything but stopping and killing whoever threatened their Guide or the bond. Maybe someone attacked your Guide or you haven't bonded yet and you feel threatened or maybe you're the one doing the threatening. Whatever the reason, Sentinels in a feral state are dangerous and only their Guides can stop them.
oo5. Lost:
Sentinels often lose themselves in their senses. Either you're a Sentinel who has lost themselves or a Guide that has stumbled on one or a friend trying to draw them out. Unbonded Sentinels will find it hard to escape without a Guide. Or maybe you're bonded already which means you just need yours to come home.
006. Persecution:
Sometimes normal people or the government fear the power of Guides and Sentinels. Guides are empaths, feeling the emotions and sometimes passing thoughts of others and it can make people feel violated. Sentinels often have enhanced strength, which can make them dangerous. So they scorn them, hurt them or in the case of governments, regulate them.
oo7. Death:
Unbonded Sentinels and Guides eventually lose themselves to the empty cavern inside them. Torn apart from the inside by the feeling of something missing. Breaking the soulbond of a Sentinel and Guide is agonizing and horrifying, leading quickly to death for the remaining partner.
oo8. Old-School:
Guides used to be treated on the same level as slaves. Unable to work unless their Sentinel said. Not allowed out on their own. They used to wear collars and couldn't own land or inherit money. Maybe the old ways haven't completely fallen out of style.
oo9. Unbonded:
Nothing is worse than being an unbonded Guide or Sentinel. Always looking for your other half to fill that empty feeling but you probably have friends that aren't your match or who are trying to set you up with someone. Maybe you're skeptical about the whole love at first sight thing and haven't been looking.
o10. Wildcard: Some mish-mash of the above or anything else you can come up with!

It had been another long, grueling day. But worthwhile. It was always worthwhile when the kids showed up and his gym was filled with laughter among the hard work they put in. He and his misfit pack doing what they could to give the kids of the streets tools to survive and to go on to thrive as adults.
He'd gone for groceries, needing to make himself something before turning in. Was walking back with the bag in his hand, enjoying the night. That is until he heard the sounds of an argument and what could be a tussle.
With a sigh, he sat his bag of groceries down next to the building and rounded the corner, unsure of what he was about to find.

That particular day had been a bad one, capping off a rough week, and he had had enough. Which was why when the other man rounded the corner, Klaus -still shaking out his hand from just having decked the last guy- just made a frustrated sound, casting his gaze skyward for a moment with a: "What now?" Before turning towards the new arrival, "Just because I can doesn't mean I will." He said by way of warning, because that was what the fight he'd just won had been about, someone thinking, mistakenly, that they could lay claim to him because they needed someone who could settle their emotions.
no subject
Didn't mean he wasn't tempted. Didn't mean that the pull he felt here wasn't stronger than all the rest. If it wasn't for the situation, he'd be a bit shocked at the strength of it, but instead, he just went from look to the Guide to the asshole Sentinel.
"This doesn't concern you, Aiden." The man said as he rubbed his jaw.
Ah yeah, one of the unstable ones. Using drugs to cope.
"It is my problem. It's not just my Guide kids off-limits," he said, cracking his knuckles as he approached. Instantly squaring up and looking more intimidating than before.
"Step back," he said to the Guide in warning as he got closer. He gave the Guide a quick look, leaving the Guide able to see the moment warm hazel eyes went amber in color before they were back on the other Sentinel. Anger rising as well as the need to protect. The endless wrestle to stay in control. To just warn away.

The only thing that kept him from lashing out at Aiden in turn was the realization that there was some older feud here, which had him just throwing both hands in the air, stepping aside, "Sure, be my guest." He bit back the sharper 'I don't need the help', though it was still right there on the tip of his tongue.
He could just walk away, he knew he could, but something kept him from going far, no further than the mouth of the alley where he leaned one shoulder against the wall, fishing a cigarette out of the battered pack in his vest pocket, lighting it as he watched what was unfolding here.

"Fuck, man. You and yours, you have no right."
Aiden ignored him, just slowly advancing and making the other man back up a bit. "Are you backing off, or am I dropping your ass?"
"Fuck you and that Guide. Place went to the dogs when you all got here," he said loudly as he stepped back more and turned to leave wit hurried steps. Which was good, no matter how much Aiden itched to lash out. To punch and just keep punching.
Aiden tried to calm down, but the wolf inside wanted out as much as he wanted to lash out. A familiar feeling that Aiden would just have to release later. The Guide came first.
Turning back he approached the Guide but kept a little distance. He didn't want to, wanted to crowd the man and make sure he was alright. "This isn't a good place for unmatched Guides. Even if you can throw a punch. Can I walk you to a bus stop or call you a cab?" Eyes still amberm but in control of his urges fro now.

Getting in a fight wouldn't really have scratched the same itch, but it would have been something similar, might have made him feel a little less like crawling out of his skin.
He pushed himself up away from his lean against the bricks, taking one last drag of his cigarette and stubbing it out on the wall, "But sure, you want to play knight in shining armor and walk me to the cross-town bus, that's fine." A pause, "Name's Klaus, by the way."
no subject
"It closed a while ago," he responded with, partially smirking as the other man stated he had it under control.
"That may be, but he also knew better." He gave a shrug of his shoulders. He was used to people treating his pack as the unofficial protectors in his particular area. Their territory. There was always a few, though...
Ah, Klaus. A name for the attractive Guide.
"What can I say? I have a thing pretty boys who wander into trouble," he said lightly with a big grin. Sure, he still itched under his skin, but he didn't have to show it. No matter how much he'd love nothing more than to feel the fabled calming touch of a Guide who was his bonded alone. He'd never force that on anyone. It was against all he stood for.
"I am Aiden Cousino, I own Wolf's Pride gym a bit further down. If you find yourself in trouble around here, come there." He turned serious there, meaning those words. If he wasn't there, then one of the others would. But given how he lived above it... he was almost always around. Moving to the end of the alley he scooped up his bag of groceries.

But then the rest of Aiden's statement caught up with him and he laughed, one bright bark of sound, trailing off into a wheeze as he shook his head, "So you do get off on the whole white knight thing." He actually looked Aiden over, a different sort of once-over than that first one had been, even as they walked, "It works for you." A one-shouldered shrug followed, "And you already know the most important thing about me." A beat, smile tilting, "I am pretty." And another, not giving time for a response before continuing, "Good at getting myself in trouble." He waved a hand in a half-circular, almost-dismissive motion, "It's a habit, can't seem to shake it."
no subject
Aiden laughed a bit at those words and the confidence behind them, and when the laugh faded a smile lingered there. "It works for me? I'll take that to mean you don't really mind too much I came to your rescue then.' He gave Klaus a little wink.
He wasn't bothered by the way the other man just kept going, and just took it in stride. "So then, will I get to see your pretty self getting into trouble around here again? Or should I try and convince you to give me your number?" Well, he may as well go for it. the walk to the bus stop wouldn't be long. But maybe the bus would take its time showing up...
no subject
The crooked smile made a reappearance, "And now that I know there's not a dance club there anymore, probably not. At least not the same kind. But who knows, maybe if you keep checking alleys you'll get lucky and get to swoop in for a rescue again." After a brief deliberation he added, "And if you're going to try and convince me of anything you're going to have to do better than that."
It was anyone's guess, really, whether or not Klaus would duck a direct question or not, though he seemed squirrely enough to try it, though at the same time he'd been as direct and honest as he was capable of himself, so it was hard to say.
no subject
Then, when it seemed like maybe Klaus might try and slip away, the Guide dangled a little possibility right there. "Now that is the kind of challenge I like," he grinned.
"Let's see... I could try and lure you in with a homecooked meal. Or...." He suddenly jogged ahead with ease to the bench at the bus stop and set his bag down before jogging back and holding out a hand, an eyebrow raised.
"How about a dance? You came here expecting to dance." The itch to lash out simmered at the new prospect. To touch and feel the Guide for himself. Dangerous... but Aiden was a werewolf, a long-lived race. And he was one who danced at the borders every day to do everything that he did for the kids.

"Food's probably a better bet, I mean," A flapping gesture with one hand to indicate himself, "Do I look like a guy who's getting home cooked meals on the regular?" He was, but that was beside the point, he didn't look like it and he knew it.
Despite all of that, however, because Klaus was nothing if not contradictory, he still took that offered hand, cautious, yes, but unafraid. He knew he could handle himself, and worst case he'd just have to overwhelm Aiden with an emotion to make his escape, something he'd done before even though he didn't have Allison's pinpoint skill with it.
no subject
"I learned long ago to not make assumptions about people, and I try not to." He failed sometimes, but he wasn't perfect. "What food do you like?" He asked as he started to lead them in a simple waltz. Humming lightly as he finished his question, vocalizing the beat he moved to for Klaus in that way. Just a little tune from an old song his mother used to sing back in the day.
no subject
"And for whatever it's worth, I'm pretty used to people making assumptions about me. Pretty used to making them about other people, too." Though really that should have been obvious, given his earlier comments.
