Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE: ① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you. ② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families. ③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down. ④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable. ⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war. ⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection. ⑦ Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be. POSSIBLE SCENARIOS: ① First meeting → This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse. ② Courtship → To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates. ③ Engagement party → Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending). ④ Wedding day → The big day! ⑤ Reception → The big party! ⑥ Wedding night → Every meme needs a smut prompt, right? ⑦ Honeymoon → Where will you go with your new spouse and what will you do there?

The arrangement wasn't so much to end a feud between two kingdoms, but to prevent one from starting. Grimhilde couldn't figure out a way to convince the Rajah that marriage between the two of them would be a profitable alliance - probably because the Rajah was more perceptive than Evie's mother gave him credit for - so instead had offered up her daughter in her place. The alliance didn't have to be a permanent one; Grimhilde never thought farther ahead than her own lifespan, so the fact that the Rajah also had a daughter didn't concern her. Apparently, it didn't concern him, either, because the bargain was made, and peace between their kingdoms would last so long as the marriage did.

Evie had met Gamzatti once before - on the day their parents had decided their fate and announced it from each side of their respective borders. She'd curtsied to the princess, joined hands across the border, and smiled for the crowds like their parents wanted. It wasn't what she'd planned, by any stretch of the imagination, but she took solace in the fact that her bride-to-be was in the same situation. They had that much in common.

Two weeks later, Evie was escorted to Gamzatti's home for a chance to properly speak with her fiance, something that would be reciprocated the following week at Queen Grimhilde's castle. Evie could not believe how stunning the palace and its grounds were. She wished her mother had let her bring a sketchbook and pen. There were so many things here she wanted to capture, to put into her work, there was no way she would remember them all.

She found Gamzatti by the entrance to a garden. She approached, stopped just a few paces away, and curtsied the way her mother had instructed, offering the other young woman a smile. "Thank you for having me," she said. As if it had been a choice for either of them.

[ Irene Adler wasn't so foolish as to go to a meeting with Moriarty without a back-up plan. She knew very well the Professor considered her a loose end in his grand plan that needed to be tied off, permanently. Long story short; Irene Adler only seems to die. The truth is more complicated, and in certain ways, more painful. Her recovery takes a long time, and she burns through a lot of money, resources and favors owed in effort to simply survive. Soon, she becomes the one owing things; money, mostly. To put it simply, she's up to her ears in debt, and unable to perform to her old standards as she is, she soon runs out of ways to keep her creditors off her back. The lot of a lonely woman in society was... well. Annoying and very inconvenient.

She only had one option left, loathe as she initially was to even consider it. Mostly because she's never depended so completely on a man before, and the fact that it's Sherlock makes it... very, very complicated. In more ways than one. But again, she's out of options, and she's forced to swallow her pride and go to him with an earnest plea for help. Miraculously, he agrees. But then again, maybe its not so strange. Since finding each other again after their respective fake-deaths, their relationship has changed in a small but significant way. They brainstorm long into the night, aided by some liquid courage.

Handful of days later brings them here: freshly arrived to the country estate of Sherlock's late parents, inherited by their son as decreed by their will now in the event of Sherlock's marriage. That's right. Marriage-- to none other than Irene Adler. A day neither one of ever saw coming, most likely.

The estate itself is lovely and on a picturesque piece of quintessential English countryside, but its upkeep has been neglected for years. Irene takes a slow turn about the slightly musty parlor, still in her traveling clothes, eyeing the covered furnishings the small skeleton staff responsible for the estates basic maintenance hasn't yet had the chance to unveil for the arrival of the new master and missus. ]

Well, it could certainly use a woman's touch. [ Beat. ] Or anyone's, really.

[ Her voice still carries a small discordant edge to it courtesy of Moriarty's poisoning that she'd probably never get rid of. Certainly she knows that even if she'd wanted to, she'll never sing again. Not like she used to. ]
