Its raining in my animal crossing town and I'm jelly tbh

caught in the rain
it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.
Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.
i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it
ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it
iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - For the bus? For someone else? For some revelation? What are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - Sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - Is everything going your way? Are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? Just singin. Singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.

You would wait with me and risk encountering bandits... just so I don’t have to endure the weather?
[ Not only is Lon’qu (rightfully) confident in his abilities, but he’s always managing to surprise Adrian with just how thoughtful he can be underneath all that steel. He steps closer when the other finally joins him beneath the overhang, retrieving a piece of cloth from his cloak and unfolding it from its small square. It’s not much but at least he’ll be a little less soaked, hand extending in offering. ]
no subject
Fine, so maybe I hadn’t thought this through, and—
[ And then he sees that cloth and blinks, uncomprehending. ]
What…What is that for?
no subject
The fact that he’d offered Adrian the choice to stay without even thinking only proves his kindness is real, that his first instincts aren’t always as prickly as one might believe. ]
We should just start heading back now. It won’t be pleasant, but if you can come all this way in the wind and rain and survive I should be able to manage as well.
no subject
He looks from it to Adrian as the latter speaks, and he can’t say that he opposes the idea all that much. The sooner they’re in the comfort and safety of an inn, the better. They can always order a hot bath, and take turns—of course. ]
Then shouldn’t you be keeping this?
[ Waving that cloth in Adrian’s face. ]
Between the two of us, you stand a better chance at staying dry.
no subject
How so? I’m not exactly dressed for winter. [ Unlike some people. But his puzzlement quickly turns to mischief, flirtatiousness. ]
Unless... You weren’t planning to drape those nice, strong arms around me to shield me from the rain, were you?
no subject
[ The way Adrian says it, it’s like he’d walked into another one of those…it’s hard to say “trap” since it’s not as though Adrian’s doing anything malicious, but…gods. Is it really that fun to watch another person fluster? Lon’qu doesn’t get it. ]
I know I’m not used to handling…people, but even I can do that much to escort you.
no subject
[ He’s definitely caught off-guard, playful countenance fading as quickly as it appeared. ] Well, no, there’s nothing wrong with— I just wasn’t expecting...
[ To be correct? Lon’qu to suddenly be okay with physical contact? Anyone invading his personal space for any reason whatsoever? It’s almost as if Adrian’s teasing backfired and while he’s not exactly flustered, he fidgets idly with the fabric of his sleeve, a hint of something warm brushing across his cheeks. ]
...Really?
no subject
I…
[ Oh, gods. He’d never felt butterflies in his stomach. Not even while staring death and fell dragons in the face. But this feeling makes him want to go and lie down in a muddy ditch somewhere. ]
I overstepped my boundaries. I’m sorry.
no subject
My boundaries are actually quite small, really! It’s fine.
[ Adrian moves beside him, guides a much larger (and still very wet) arm to drape around his shoulders. ] So come now. A nice, delicious meal and a cozy bed awaits us.
no subject
Not unpleasant, he thinks. ]
You mean the rotten gruel and that flea-infested haystack they pretend is a mattress.
[ Look, he has to redirect that awkwardness on something. ]
no subject
[ As much as he tries to lighten the mood it does little to comfort either of them he’s sure, and he lets out a sigh. ]
And yet, if it wasn’t raining we just might be better off sleeping in the wilderness...
[ Adrian tilts his head towards the other, sense of humor still in tact despite their unfortunate situation. ] But it is. So... You ready?
no subject
But then again, if Lon’qu were being honest… ]
The rain isn’t so bad. I’ve had to meditate under waterfalls before. Icy ones.
no subject
First of all, that’s quite impressive. Second of all, what are you saying? You would rather stay out here than return to our lavish barnyard?
no subject
I don’t…hate being in the rain. I’ve slept in rougher conditions before.
[ But at this point he’s just glossing over the more unsavory aspects of spending too much time without shelter in inclement weather. ]
But the barnyard might be a slightly better option.
no subject
[ He’s never doubted someone like Lon’qu has experienced a few hardships now and again. Was there any mercenary who didn’t? But to hear there were worse conditions he’s endured does pique Adrian’s curiosity all over again, as well as his concern.
But it’s hidden well enough beneath a pleasant smile, Adrian pressing against the other’s side and guiding them finally out into the rain.
The distance traveled back from the markets somehow felt even longer than the distance to them, despite their hurried pace. And despite the attempt to keep Adrian sheltered as much as possible from the weather, he’s almost entirely just as soaked once they reach the inn. ]
Well, it was the thought that counted... [ He says while ringing out the water from his hair and clothes, attention shifting towards his companion as his posture straightens. ]
And playing the role of umbrella to shield me from the rain was the nicest thing anyone’s done for me in a long time. Thank you, Lon’qu.
no subject
You’re welcome.
[ He watches Adrian wring his hair dry, the impression making him think of the ink paintings back at Chon’sin, where the colors seem to fade with every stroke of a brush soaked in fresh water. The rain seems to have taken out the brighter edges of Adrian’s very being.
Yes, an umbrella is definitely a priority. ]
Go and sit by the fire. I’ll see if I can get you something to drink.
no subject
[ It’s almost said with a pout, arms folding against his chest. For a moment he seems to be contemplating before ultimately he sighs, unable to refrain from a small smile. ] But I suppose I will allow it, just this once.
[ It’s kind of nice being the one looked after for a change. Why not indulge a little? ]
Just... hurry back, alright? You were out there much longer than I was. High tolerance for the elements or not, I worry you might still come down with a cold.
no subject
I don’t see the appeal. But the innkeep says it’ll warm you up right away.
[ That’s the closest Adrian gets to an explanation. He’d never been the hard-drinking type anyway. ]
no subject
It isn’t so bad. And if what they say is true then... Cheers. [ Mug raises slightly in mock celebration before it’s brought against his lips to drink, and he immediately regrets not taking an experimental sip beforehand. ]
Nevermind. It’s even more awful than I remember.
[ Wiping his mouth with a sleeve, Adrian looks down now at his ale with a distaste not unlike Lon’qu’s. ]
no subject
Not a very efficient way, mind, but at least the innkeeper hadn’t been completely wrong, not that Lon’qu feels any better about it. ]
Sorry. It was the best they’ve got, short of throwing ourselves into the fire.
[ And even that’s beginning to look a little tempting right now. ]
no subject
[ Not only did he hate being wasteful but he would hate to seem unappreciative. It was a sweet gesture after all. Adrian prepares himself for the taste before raising his glass, taking a hefty swig this time around, free hand pressing against his throat shortly after. ]
It really does feel warm. [ Though a fleeting, burning sensation, he imagines for anyone else that it turns to a pleasant warmth when it lingers long enough. ]
Aren’t you going to give it a try? Or will you leave me to suffer by my lonesome?
no subject
Ugh…there has to be a better way of keeping warm than this.
no subject
Well... You are still sopping wet. We both are.
[ And this place can’t seem to spare something so simple as a towel so Adrian stands, looks carefully around the room before moving towards one of the beds. Quilt pulled aside, he gathers the sheet underneath and returns to Lon’qu, flashing an innocent smile that betrays what he says next. ]
So strip! We can use these to dry and the quilts to sleep in.
no subject
[ Lon’qu stares dumbly at the sheet, ratty old thing that it is, finding that whatever Adrian’s planning this time around, he’s completely lost the plot of it. Granted, Adrian’s idea is reasonable enough, but once again Lon’qu can’t help sensing some undercurrent here—a double entendre he isn’t getting.
He never thought that traveling with Adrian would be this difficult.
Still, he sets his own mug aside to gingerly reach out for that sheet, and, in a voice that comes across more gruffly than he intends, he adds: ]
I hope you realize the beds are going to be painfully itchy without these.
no subject
[ It seems he’s given this quite a bit of thought within the few seconds it took traveling to and from the beds. No hidden meanings or malicious plotting here! Just some helpful ideas from a helpful companion. ] They should be large enough to do so, by the looks of it.
[ Once Lon’qu takes the shabby fabric off his hands, Adrian’s moving back to retrieve the other over on the opposite side of the room. ]
But worry not. Even if they aren’t, I’m always happy to share my quilt with you if you’d like.
[ Nevermind the implications of sharing a bed in the nude, which Adrian seems completely unbothered by. ]
