ANIMAL CROSSING MEME

For whatever reason, regardless of what you were doing before, you awaken at an airport. There may or may not be two raccoons staring at you. Maybe they're asking you questions. Something about an island? Yeah...yeah that's right. You remember now. You'd been wanting to start a new life on a deserted island. Or maybe you weren't looking to start something new, just get away from it all. Best make the most of it!

Rules:

1) Log in with your character(s) and post their name and canon in the subject line. Put any preferences in your actual post, tell us what your character is up to, or set up the scenario you like. Top levels left blank will be deleted.
2) Select a scenario you like and tag someone.
3) Thread! And have fun, of course.

Prompts:

1) WASPS!: It doesn't matter how powerful you may have been back in your world (if this ISN'T your world), because now all it takes is a swarm of ticked off insects packing stingers and a hankering for using those stingers on your face to send you running. Will you get away? Will your lovely face suffer because of your curiosity? Why are you asking me?

2) Nook's: Nook's Cranny is a pretty cool place to go, isn't it? Got lots of stuff. Furniture, wallpaper, shovels, nets, you name it. Sure you don't need that suit of armor for your house or that chair shaped like a
peach, but c'mon. You owe it to yourself.

3) The Able Sisters': Everybody needs clothes, and it just so happens that you've got a pretty awesome place to buy them! ...sure it's the only place on the island, but who cares about that? In here you can make your own designs and share them across the globe, buy a nice hat, or chat with the sisters about whatever. Or hey, why not offer the girls some help?

4) Like a good neighbor: I've got two words for you: free stuff. You like free stuff, I like free stuff, we all like free stuff. Sometimes chatting with a neighbor gets you free stuff, while other times running an errand or two does it. Even if the errand is walking like two feet to give another neighbor a letter or walking three feet to grab a piece of fruit.

5) Shakin' trees: Wasps aren't the only thing that can fall out of trees, you know. Fruit does too! And so does money and the occasional piece of clothing or furniture. Just try not to get crushed by that new sofa you found.

6) DI-Why: Now that you've been collecting materials from the land, whether stone, various types of wood, fruits, or even bamboo and sakura blossoms, it's time to craft! Hey- you got any Ironwood DIYs, friend?

7) Island Tours: You've racked up the miles and they're paying off! Where have your buds at Dodo Airlines flown you? A friend's island? A tropical paradise full of wild hybrid flowers? Oh shit, is that an island full of tarantulas?!

8) Weekly Visitors: A new day brings the chance to meet a new, potential resident to your campsite, or maybe one of the regular traveling merchants. Commission a bug statue from Flick, purchase shrub starters from Leif, see Kicks about some new shoes or a bag, or even buy mysterious wallpaper or rugs from the enigmatic Saharah. Don't forget to buy turnips on Sunday mornings!

9) Fishing Contest: Some friendly competition never hurt anyone, and what better way to prove it then by running around like a maniac trying to prove how good you are at catching fish?

10) Garage sale: You may not have a garage, but laying your unwanted stuff around the house and hoping someone will buy it works just as well.

11) Home/Museum: Spending time outside is fun, but sometimes it's fun to just kick back in your house with a friend and chill. Or you can hang at the museum. Lots of cool things to look at there. Most of which you donated...

12) Gardening: The island's looking a bit too barren. Some nice trees, flowers, or hedges would brighten it right up!

13) Wildcard: Visit the island to hang out with a friend! Whack people in the face with a net! Pitfall troll! Building up island infrastructure! Dig for fossils! Paying off your loans? Anything that isn't listed above can be done here.

[What is Mercedes doing on this deserted island? Her best, that's what.

She was part way through a DIY project that was going absolutely atrociously, and has left it behind in favor of gardening a bit. The monstrosity of wood bits and weeds is some distance away, and Mercedes is down in the dirt, skirt hiked up to her knees and a tool in hand as she sets about planting some flowers.

They're not in a straight line, but they're buried, and she's singing to herself in a clear, airy voice. At least she's happy...

Someone is certainly welcome to come help, critique, or tell her there's dirt all over her face, arms, and hair.]

[oh no.

oh dear. this is not good at all. look at the wood and weeds in this pile! it sullies the island. Ankha is a little bit horrified, but once she sees Mercedes, she sighs and pads over to her]

Excuse me, me meow. Is this your... mess?

[The soft sound of little cat feet warns Mercedes she has company. She looks up from her work with a smile, wiping some of the sweat from her face and leaving a streak of dirt instead.]

Hmm? Oh! You mean... [She glances past the cat to her failure. Yeah, she doesn't even really have a word for it.] Yes, that is mine. I tried to follow this cute recipe, but it didn't really work out, so I'm taking a break with these flowers. Don't worry, I'll clean it up.

[ah, she's dirty. okay. Ankha tries to hide the grimace in her face, though the corner of her mouth is pulling]

I see.

[then she looks down at the arrangement of the flowers. hoo boy, this poor human. maybe she needs guidance. as Ankha looks back up again, she gestures to the pile]

What is it you were making? ...Or, attempting to make, me meow?

[A little manual labor is good for the soul!]

Oh... I believe it was a wooden chair recipe. Would you like to look?

[She takes the DIY card out of a pocket in her skirts and holds it out for Ankha to look at.]

[the queen is here. open to all scenarios, and cross-canon. recruit her to your island, or maybe she's already on your island, and being her snooty self. the sky's the limit, me meow]

[ It’s rare that Isabelle has to make a house call, but it’s her duty to be the intermediary for conflicts between islanders and she takes her job seriously.

...but why of all the residents did it have to be Ankha?

Trying to work up her confidence Isabelle takes a few extra minutes to pick some fruit before finally knocking on her door]

[why wouldn't it be Ankha, honestly? she is constantly gossiping about someone, plus she doesn't seem to like to get her paws dirty. sure, she'll water the flowers every now and then, do a DIY project, or two. but what help has she offered in order to make the island a better place, aside from her attitude?

when she answers the door, she is looking as posh as ever, with her drink that has a little paper umbrella sticking out of it, and a nice outfit. she also looks surprised, but not even a little upset about seeing Isabelle. she adores Isabelle]

Oh, Isabelle! How wonderful to see you out and about the island. To what do I owe the pleasure, me meow?

[ She relaxes a little, while Isabelle is not a particularly prideful person she does take pleasure in knowing she's easy to get along with. That's part of why she takes on the responsibilities she has. She smiles warmly and holds up the fruit she's gathered.]

I was hoping for some fabulous company for a mid day drink if I wouldn't be imposing on you?

[Isabelle wants company? with her?

...why wouldn't she, Ankha finally settles on, after the initial shock wears off.

the cat steps aside, looking tickled]

Of course not, me meow! Oh, though, I wish I had known you were coming. I would have tidied up the house more.

[the house interior is decorated like a shiny pyramid. there is, in fact, a DIY recipe being worked on, on the table, but, other than that, everything looks clean as can be. polished, even]

Please, come in, and make yourself at home!

Oh thank you!

[With a faint ringing of her bells in her fur she follows Ankha inside and passes the fruits off so they can make more drinks as they see fit.]

Oh goodness I've heard it's pretty in here but I hadn't realized just how pretty. You've really made this place your own haven't you?

[Ankha takes the fruit gratefully. hm, what should she make with them?]

Oh, yes! I thoroughly enjoy this little island. I am happy to call it my home, even if it isn't a bustling metropolis.

[a joke? maybe?]

Fit for a Queen isn't it?

[She takes a seat watching Ankha with barely disguised admiration. She was always so confident, so fashionable that even the gold plated furniture seemed to suit her when in other homes it would just be tacky.]

You know how I am though, I can't stop working. Is there anything you'd like us to work on to make the island more perfect for you?

[maybe put up a large golden statue of a cat? Egyptian style?]

I think there should be... more shopping areas. Perhaps, an outlet mall.

[there is no room for a mall, Ankha]

[ If she asked, Isabelle would make it happen. That's just how she does.]

Well I'll see what we can do about that. I have heard rumors there might be a new Coffee shop coming to our Island. But that's just a little secret between you and me.

[Ankha's face lights up, and she claps her paws together once]

A coffee shop! That's just what we need, me meow!

I thought so as well. Mr. Nook is making arrangements with an old friend of his, but you have to keep it a secret till I announce it OK?

[the odds of that happening were 50-50 but even if Ankha couldn't resist the urge to gossip, it wasn't like it would spoil the deal if people were talking about it. Maybe it would make things happen faster?

Once they both had a fresh drink Isabelle had to get to the meet of the matter though she regretted it.]

Now, I know I came over just to spend some time with you, but I do have something work related to discuss if you don't mind?

It seems there has been some...trouble with the way you speak to some of our residents. Nicknames I believe was the problem?

[don't worry! Ankha nods eagerly, and mimes zipping her lips. but who knows if she'll actually keep that promise.

anyway, fruit drinks! so nice and refresh--

oh. Isabelle is talking business. how sad. that's a total mood-killer, Isabelle!]

Is there something wrong with calling the others nicknames?

[she tilts her head]

[ Isabelle is sweet and popular, but she's never mastered the art of leaving work at work.]

Well it's more of a misunderstanding I think...Like the nickname doesn't suit them so they'd like a different one?

It's like...hmm...well I suppose is there a nickname you've always wanted people to call you?

"Queen."

[Ankha says without any hesitation at all]

But not "Queenie." That doesn't work. It's totally not the right fit, you know?

[???????]

See, I think that's exactly it.

[She smiles warmly, not even phased by her choice in nicknames.]

I knew you'd understand Queen.

Sometimes a nickname can feel good and nice! But if it doesn't feel right then it just feels like a bad fit.

So...without naming names, there is someone who you have a nickname for and they don't wish to be rude and ask you to stop because they like you. But I think they would like a different Nickname.

[oh. hm. Ankha thinks about this. who could it be? how will she amend her choice if she doesn't know who she hurt? it's not like she called anyone "uggo," right?]

[after a moment, she nods]

I understand.

I knew you would. That's why you're the Queen.

[ Isabelle reaches out offer a hand for a friendly and supportive squeeze.]

Everyone makes mistakes, but what's important is how you handle them. And you always handle yourself all cool and graceful.

[oh! compliments! that does cheer Ankha up. she turns her paw and squeezes back]

I try, me meow! But, thank you for coming to tell me. To clear up the mistake. I'll be more careful!

I know you will!

I actually have some more free time before I'm needed back at Resident Services. Perhaps after we finish our drinks we could stop by the Able Sisters? They have a bunch of pretty items in today but I could use someone fashionable to advise me.

[ Advise her, play dress up. Whatever.]

They don't know what they're doing. The Vessel isn't meant to be doing anything but their duty--and none of that is on this island.

And yet here they are. Towering more than twice the height of other residents, terrifyingly silent and blank-faced, staring at anyone around them...

...and then meekly attempting to follow their lead on what to do. (Generally pretty difficult, considering they only have one arm.)
