(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 07:20 am (UTC)(link)The game/DR would take place in an arcade. All the characters remain in their own worlds, but everything is sort of an AU where their worlds are their game cabinets. If the character is from an actual video game, they're in an arcade version of their game, or if they're not from a video game they're in an arcade game adaption of their canon.
Say you have an MCU Loki. They'd live in an arcade game based on the The Avengers (or Thor) movie, and that's their world.
But like in Wreck-It Ralph all the arcade games (worlds) are connected, so all the characters can meet one another, interact, and travel between the different games.
We liked the concept because it's open to basically anything, not just video game characters, though you could play around with lots of interesting and fun video gamey concepts, especially for events. Anything could just have an arcade game adaptation for the sake of it, whether it's Sailor Moon or Homestuck or Sherlock. It'd also allow easily for AUs (since characters could always be different in their adapted arcade versions) and original characters.
Unfortunately neither of us have the time to get a game/DR up and running or moderated, but the concept's still been hanging around my head and I thought I'd share, in case anyone else maybe liked the idea.

I am looking for four to six players to play a tabletop style campaign, to be run by me.
As a tabletop style game, it has some fundamental differences to normal DWRP. Because of this, I can’t offer too many details about the setting or what will occur. A large amount of the appeal of the game comes from being in the same situation as the characters and only knowing what they know. But I can hardly expect someone to get involved with nothing at all. So quick starting points:
The game will involve the almost universal DWRP trend of characters being taken from their canons and inserted into a multidimensional setting. The reason for it will become clear quickly and be a active plot point. The setting itself will primarily be a case of soft science ‘sufficiently advanced technology’ sci-fi, in which technology with practically magical applications exists. The intended overall goal of the game will be to escape, but as with all tabletop games the players themselves might choose to take things in a totally different direction.
Either way, the first ‘chapter’ of the game will involve a series of unavoidable trials of various types that will serve to familiarise the players with the rules of the game and the characters with each other. The game itself will be customised slightly to suit the characters chosen and the setting will change based on character actions.
This game will only accept a maximum of six players, with one character each, but a player may apply with up four characters. Only canon characters will be applicable.
Characters with very little use in combat but skills in other areas are acceptable. The upper limit for character power is also quite high, essentially anything lower than possessing cosmically, world altering levels of power. In some cases a character may have a companion (or several); this refers to a character that comes with another entity that will have its own statistics, but is largely not its own character. For example, Hogarth could be applied and have the Iron Giant as his companion. Or a Pokémon trainer could bring their team of six.
In the event of more than six applicants the players will mostly be chosen based on suitability of their character, the potential for the most interesting team dynamic and other factors such as player availability. Anyone not chosen for this game will be given a higher priority for the next game. If a whole lot of people apply, I might run two games side by side.
I will generate the statistics of the characters myself based on the application’s information and looking into the canon.
My initial thought is for the game to be run at an as available pace (like most DWRP) but have a set time of two or three hours a week in which all players will aim to be online at the same time to play together. I’m in GMT, so that may be difficult for some of you to synch up with.
The game will be run using the Marvel Super Heroes Role Playing Game (or MSHRPG) system, a now defunct game system. Since it was designed for dealing with characters of vastly different skill sets and powers it’s very good for this sort of panfandom mix-and-matching. We will be using the advanced system, but don’t worry! All that means is that it’s a more complete and well rounded system, solving some of the problems of the basic set. I don’t expect the players to learn all the ins and outs of the system before we start. A quick, basic understanding that can be gotten from reading my abridged introduction is all you’ll need as a beginner.
For the first few weeks I’ll be doing most of the heavy lifting and mostly you’ll be declaring what you want to do and shouting the numbers at me, nothing more complicated than that. Which leads me to an advantage of this system; it almost doesn’t get more complicated than that anyway. All of the rule and sourcebooks can be found here.
Applications can be made here and the decisions will be made sometime after January . Thanks for reading, any questions welcomed.
