Seifer was in the driver's seat, munching down on a bag of fiery jalapeno corn nuts. His little sister was college bound and that meant he had to drag her across country to California, all the way to Stanford. The girl was smart as a whip, but usually pretty took her pretty face to hide a ailing and rotting brain. Suits them he supposes that they judged so soon, she was a highly intelligent kid. At least in big brother's opinion.

People did the same thing to him, where he looked like a good looking guy who liked to party, do drugs and sleep around but reality was, he spent most of his highschool playing baseball, studying hard, sneaking cigarettes from their dad and antagonizing the guy he had a 'crush' on for four solid years. That never worked out, but at least he got a hug and smile on graduation day. Worth the long haul of lighting a fire underneath the dude's icy ass.

"How about getting a hotel soon? I'm getting pretty tired here and I could use a little beauty sleep, kid," Seifer told her as he reached for his cigarettes, slickly got one out and lit it up while Rolling down the automatic window of their mom's mom van. He hated the damn thing but his was in the shop, a red SUV that he preferred over this bullshit. Still, it was in top working condition and thing didn't make a sound at all. He took a long drag of his cigarette and exhaled out the window.

[Well. This is a side to Remus Lupin that not many people get to see these days. His sober expression has been replaced by a grin of almost school boy proportions and his normally tired eyes are alight with unaccustomed excitement. His movements are as measured and calm as ever, but those who know him best will notice the trace of a spring in his step. He's got something good to show Sirius today.]

Technically I've only got it for this mission, but it's going to be a long drive. I asked Dumbledore if we could go together, since the whole point is that no wizard would look for us in a car.

( ...sooooo. this is the dreaded demon of… which court of hell did he say he was from again? a very frightening, bloodcurdling one apparently, but so far, he’s mostly proven to be… not quite useless, but... yeah. useless. he was supposed to be zhaoyi’s very own road to success. his rite of passage, the token of zhaoyi’s mostly dormant but absolutely real powers. it’s a feat in itself that he actually managed to summon anything, considering how many of his spells and rituals usually fizzle, and now he’s stuck with a demon who can’t read a map to save his life.

he probably shouldn’t have tried. his parents had been powerful witches once upon a time, a legacy of expectations that zhaoyi still struggles to meet. why. a flawless bloodline, a renowned coven. and him, the laughingstock of his kin, doomed to be mediocre. summoning a demon might have salvaged what’s left of his reputation, his own confidence, but as it turns out, it was nothing more than a wild goose chase.

his battery’s almost dead, wifi signal intermittent at best. there’s still gas but seemingly nowhere to go. he dozed off for an hour. it was enough for his demonic companion to take a turn somewhere and drive until right and left don’t make any sense. going back didn’t help much, and zhaoyi leans against the car door, a laugh void of humor as he glances upward, the sky an indigo shade as night slowly settles. the irony isn’t completely lost on him. they were on their way to a convention where he was going to show him off, and now…

he laughs again, bitter notes in his sigh as he shakes his head and looks down, the screen of his phone frozen. great. )
