Word Association is a common word game involving an exchange of words that are associated together. The game is based on the noun phrase word association, meaning "stimulation of an associative pattern by a word" or "the connection and production of other words in response to a given word, done spontaneously as a game, creative technique, or in a psychiatric evaluation."

...don't think you mean that in the sense I know it as.

[Amalthea doesn't ask the obvious, just gives him a curious look, the corners of her eyes suppressing a smile more tellingly than her lips.

(It's not what he means by Molly; it's that it feels like he let her win.)]

She's a friend.

I thought you might ask me about bronze wings. About metal in the moonlight.

Or did I speak to you of that one before?

A harpy.

I met her when I was caught and caged. Before the magician changed my shape.

Heard of those.

[All those hours of listening to Mr. Howlett tell Jimmy stories pays off now and then.]

Betting she wasn't all that nice.

No.

But I think of her often. She was drawn to me, and I to her.

You're both different, but also the same.

I'm different, too, but not in the same way.

To know a creature exists, so like and unlike yourself—

Perhaps that's why in some ways she haunts me more than the Bull.

She belongs to herself. The Bull doesn't. He's weak just by being mastered.
