Colleen doesn't think she will be sleeping much. She knows how she reacts to things and loosing sleep is on the top of the list for how she reacts to changes in routine.

"July sixth. But with twins? It could be earlier," Colleen actually huffs. "Of course that's supposed to be a full moon. Isn't that just grand?"

Of course it's a full moon. That is her luck. It has to be dramatic.

On impulse, he reaches out and ruffles her hair. It's not belittling, just affectionate, calming, a combing rather than an actual ruffle, but also not a romantic gesture, picked up through years with a pack that leaned heavily on the physically affectionate side.

"Well, they are being quite rambunctious."

Oh thank Gaia, they're both being normal. Colleen feels suddenly much better. She is not worried about them acting weird at each other at all.

"It'll slow down when they run out of space I bet," Colleen says with a laugh. Wait. That might not be great. She isn't ready for them to suddenly arrive. God that scares the snot out of her.

"Or they'll come out when they run out of space." Or a mix of both.

He turns back to the stove to tend to the pancakes. "Either way I'm sure you can handle them. ...I'll help, of course, if you want me to." he just has to put that out there. Just as an aside. A quiet remark, because the answer will probably be no and that is fine, that's how things are. She surely has enough kinfolk that can help her take care of the children.

Colleen is ready to shoot him a look. She does not want to think about the twins coming early. Colleen has a plan, okay? They do not get to ruin the plan until after they are born. Nope. Not allowed.

"I'd like that," she admits. "I know.... I know that my kinfolk are happy to help out but fuck. I can't ask them to do the whole thing. I've always tried to be clear they could just say no."

But honestly they haven't because of the fact she's not the sort of woman or Garou to order them around. She asks and is a very flexible woman. It doesn't hurt that they're all decently attractive men. Colleen has quite enjoyed all the fussing.

Oh no. It's going to be 'awful' watching a bunch of men help with babies. However will she cope?

"Most people like helping out." And he's going to watch his words better now and not add anything along the lines of 'even more so if they're helping out an attractive woman' because that almost turned awkward earlier. Even though he wouldn't be surprised if that is part of the actual draw there.

He flips the last pancake and starts to rummage around for a fork and plate for himself.

"And you'll probably need all the help that you can get. ...This is your first time having kids, right?"

"They do. You should have seen when I was trying to find a place to live before. I can't really drive. I mean... do you want to see an Ahroun with road rage?" Colleen cracks a grin over that. She thinks that it would have ended with her having someone's skull in her hands. Even with her normally even temper.

"Yes. I'm not even sure how to change a diaper." Colleen wrinkles her nose a bit as she is tucking into her own plate of food.

"Or prepare a bottle. I mean. What if I don't have the energy to nurse both of them?" Or if she can't produce enough milk. She hasn't really said that out loud but that makes her worry she won't be a good enough Mom. It feels a bit silly to worry over but all the books make it sound like Moms need to be perfect at everything.

Which is wrong but Colleen has no clue yet.

No, he would rather not, thank you very much. "I have a license here, but... it's not my favourite thing to do." He learned driving late, having been around decent public transport ever since he stopped being too... well, non-human to drive. And sure, he can drive stick-shift all right and automatic is a step down from that, but it's just not a favourite pastime. Also if he can get a slightly more expensive flat that he needs to car to reach? The lack of a car brings the price down to about even.

"I can show you how to change diapers. And prepare bottles." He grins. "I've helped out with children of all breeds, and in the end it just comes down to keeping them alive and making them feel safe." he's not going to say loved because he mentioned all breeds and they have never spoken about her approach to metis, really, and he kind of doesn't want to know at this point. "Nursing is just one of many ways of achieving that." He's never been around a mother raising her twins so he has no actual idea if she could feasibly breastfeed both, and thus won't comment on that.

That is exactly her line of thinking. Plus her leg used to be so much worse than it is so being behind the wheel was just asking for trouble. "Oh I get it. I'm... actually a terrible backseat driver. I start singing the 'everyone is stupid' song."

Colleen is terrible at not being in control. Not being in control and seeing how badly other people drive just really makes her cranky.

Colleen doesn't know how to explain her feelings on metis. It's complicated, okay? Especially with the way the tribe as a whole is. When it boils down to it Colleen doesn't think it is a child's fault that their parents didn't take enough precautions. She doesn't think it's okay to not love a child for being a child but where does the child begin and the big fuck up end? That's exactly why she is not bringing this up.

"I bet lupis are cute.... So. Big question. Do they have toe beans?" Colleen grins broadly at him hoping that will get a laugh out of him.

He chuckles, looking a bit wistful. "You sound like the kind of person half of my old pack would have used as an excuse to get to walk instead." Not quite half of them, but a sufficient enough amount that - but that's going into territory that he doesn't really want to think about.

"...I never paid attention to that," he has to admit at the question. That had not really been a priority back then. Did they? He had, in that case, really only helped.

"As long as they wouldn't mind a club leg like me." Colleen normally doesn't insult her own injury but it just slips out. She doesn't flinch about it but just deals with it by shoving a mouthful of pancake to prevent herself from saying anything for a good minute.

"Mmmph. I should ask Drenna sometime. Um. Old Grand Elder from a Sept I used to work for. Or current? They have a weird way of running their Elder council I never understood." Colleen assumed that it had to do with their Caern totem. Spirits always add extra levels of weird.

"Lupis born. According to the rumors she ended up adopting a litter because the Ahroun lupis who had them suddenly died within days of having them. The details... are kind of sketchy. But having a very angry Get Ragabash suddenly adopt cubs and ready to fight anyone who argues with them is kinda scary. I'm not arguing with that." Colleen rests her hand on her baby bump thinking it over.

"I'll just.... be very careful and make plans. That's the part that does scare me. Not having a plan."

[personal profile] stormfinder 2020-04-17 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
"That would be rather hypocritical of one of them." There'd been two of them who were metis-born in that pack, and one had been a Red Talon with all the opinions that someone raised by that tribe for their whole life would have. In many ways she'd been worse than the actual lupus Red Talon in the pack. Not that he would perfectly rule out that she would have been that hypocritical if she observed someone's buggered leg making them actively bad at moving around or hindering them significantly in a fight - she'd always been some degree of proud about being a strong and able fighter despite her own challenges.

Either way, that pack is behind, and he tries tries to turn away from the subject. Which isn't hard with what Colleen just offered. "Plans in case you can't be there for them?"

"You're not wrong." That doesn't mean Colleen hasn't had to do some Ahroun posturing in the past. People don't seem to realize that just because she can't run doesn't make her any less dangerous. She is just very careful about when she uses her anger since being cooler headed tends to win fights for her.

"Or get called away. I... So. There's this Elder Bastet I used to be really good friends with. In the sense he kept showing up to 'borrow' me. We have this weird running tally of who owes who a favor." Colleen is shaking her head at this point.

"I think I owe him as favor next. I seriously hope he never shows up again. I always end up in the weirdest situations because of him.... then I can't even talk about the best ones."

Now that's true tragedy, not being able to tell the tale.

"How come you can't talk about them?" It's conversational, not inquisitive in the strictest sense of the word - she can answer, or not. Either way, he's going to start eating now, and fall quiet for a little while he does so, leaving it to her to either fill the silence or not.
