There was a moment of genuine confusion...then Harley's eyes widened and she looked to the poster on her wall of Batgirl standing on a gargoyle.
She held the belt up to the poster confirming it was the same one, then in a flash turned around, wrapped it around Steph's waist and pushed her in front of the poster comparing the two.
Ohmigod. Ohmigod. Secret’s out. Harleen knows who she is now. She’s screwed. She really doesn’t have much of a choice in lies here. It’s too good to be cosplay and the fact she was sized up like that.
Harleen was practically buzzing with excitement "How long have you been Batgirl?! Does Batman like you? Do you know the other Batgirls? What's Robin really like? Oh my god no wait answer your belt!!!"
Somewhere in the explosion of questions the belt buzzed again and the sensible part of Harleen's brain kicked into gear causing her to yelp and throw the belt at Stephanie jumping back as if it might explode.
Stephanie caught her belt and pulled out the device, noticing messages from others of a crime in progress. It’s nearby, something she can take care of quickly, which she responds to.
“Give me thirty minutes and I’ll answer your questions, I promise.” Stephanie said, nodding. “Meet me on the roof.”
Harleen hesitated in responding, not wanting such an opportunity to just slip away, but her heart won out over her curiosity and she nodded.
"OK. I'll be a good girl. You go save the day but don't make me wait all night OK?"
And then to seal the promise Harleen went up on her toes to plant a kiss right on Steph's lips. She tasted faintly of cotton candy lip gloss and sugary soda.
Steph was speechless as she was kissed, the taste almost intoxicating. She briefly returned the kiss before pulling away.
“I won’t keep you long.” She said, smiling. Grabbing her bag, she would slip into the bathroom to change, the bag and her clothes left behind.
It would be an hour and a half before Steph returned, landing on the roof of Harleen’s home. “Harleen?” She uttered, wondering if she had come up here.
"You know, most people don't have easy access to their own roof."
Harleen was there with a blanket spread out to sit on, in her PJs which were pink with unicorns on them. She also had a bag of oreo's she'd swiped from the kitchen and offered them to the superhero trying not to look like her face was about to split in half for how big she was grinning.
An honest to goodness superhero! And she had kissed her!
"Oh shut up." Harley rolled her eyes and produced a thermos full of milk which she poured into a cup for Steph to dip her cookies in before taking some more for herself.
"You're a superhero! The whole secret identity thing is part of the deal right? And it's not like we're girlfriends or anything...I mean...not yet..." She fumbled over the last part and stiffened realizing she'd probably been just a bit too honest just then.
"A-all I'm sayin' is, if anyone understands how important what you do is, it's the freak girl with an obsession for extreme personalities in psychology."
Harleen coughed and sputtered on her cookie at Steph's calling her out, making her face so red it almost seemed to glow in the moonlight.
"Y-yeah I mean...well I would like to yeah! I woulda wanted to do stuff with ya before I knew you were a superhero but now you're like...I mean look at you. I can't stop looking at you!" She squeaked and clapped her hands over her mouth to keep herself from gushing further about her surging hormones.
Steph laughed at Harleen’s reaction, finding it so cute. Here she was, just gushing that one of the few people who actually cared about her was a hero and geeking out about it.
“At least you like me with how I look. I’m certainly no Wonder Woman.” She replied. She had curves, but not that much and her chest wasn’t that impressive, either.
Harleen sighed unable to help herself as a dreamy look crossed her features "Yeah but no one's like her. She's like...heh..."
Snapping out of her hero worship for a heroine who was absolutely out of her league she went back to the one she had a chance with and shyly inched closer till her fingertips were brushing against Steph's glove.
"But like...you have fun doing this right? It's not all super serious and scary and tragic backstories and vengeance and self sacrifice? You enjoy it?"
“Honestly? I do have fun. I’ve done the super serious bit before and... nah, not me.” Steph admitted. She could feel Harleen’s fingertips on her glove. “Someone has to balance things out somewhere...”
She relaxes a little at that and inches her fingers closer till her hand is resting on top of Stephanie's.
"And...maybe it would be nice to have someone else in your corner? To balance things out?" She offered with her big blue eyes shining with the sort of respect and admiration people usually reserve for Batman. As far as Harleen was convinced Batgirl was WAY cooler.
That was apparently all Harley's impulsive side could handle. The little squeeze of her hand made her vibrate with glee and she turned into Stephanie kissing her again, this time harder, brushing her tongue over Stephanie's lips for permission.
Batgirl! She was dating Batgirl!!! It was so many fantasies come true at once! Not only was her girlfriend super cool and smart but she could kick so much ass! And now Harleen had a front seat view to the psychology of a person leading a double life as a crime fighter!!!
Stephanie was ready for the next kiss, though the tongue was a new addition. She didn’t need to be a detective to know that she was enjoying this, that her life was complete.
Harleen took that as permission to keep going, her tongue snaking inside Steph's mouth to tangle and stroke along the other girl's. But as quickly as she had started kissing, the gangly girl was climbing into Stephanie's lap, accidentally knocking over the cookie plate. But for once cookies were the last thing on her mind.
"Mmm~" Was all she could say with a mouthful of superheroine, feeling the thickness of her body armor contrasting with Harleen's soft PJs.
There was a distinct contrast between their clothes and it made a lot of difference on what they were feeling. Not that Stephanie minded; it just made everything more interesting as she kissed back, enjoying the moment.
